wmwmarmstrong Posted October 31, 2018 #82 Share Posted October 31, 2018 Looks like you received massive credits, if you are going from Gold to Diamond! Try MSC they give extra points for higher Categories and Experience (You will need to read up about that)
sanger727 Posted October 31, 2018 #83 Share Posted October 31, 2018 Some cruise lines do this. Celebrity, for example, gives points per night, but more than one. So insides and ocean views get 2 points per night, balconies get 3, then there are two upgraded balcony cabin categories that get 5, and suites get 8-12. There levels, of course, require more points. But if it’s important to you, the options are out there.

wms99 Posted October 31, 2018 #85 Share Posted October 31, 2018 It's about money. Plain and simple money. Offer an extra day count if I buy my excursion thru Carnival. Offer an extra day based on money spent. That makes them more money. It makes the badge snobs happy. It makes stock holders and boards happy. Everyone happy. Happy happy. On our last cruise we sat with this nice couple in the MDR every night. It was 3 or 4 days into the cruise before we discovered they were Diamonds. And another couple at our table were Platinum. Not everyone cares about or notices card color.

Not sure I understand the point of your comment. I have literally met hundreds of people on cruises who I hung out with and enjoyed spending time with during the cruise, many who I have maintained contact with to this day. Their card colors have ranged from blue to white. I have never noticed any correlation between a person’s VIFP level and their personality. The7Harrisons Posted October 31, 2018 #87 Share Posted October 31, 2018 Have you people actually read the benefits that each level receives???? LOL, not even worth the time it took me to write this post! We are platinum, so what? We have NEVER used laundry service on a boat, and we are NEVER in a hurry to get on or off the boat so for us, platinum/diamond is no big deal but it is a big deal for some ego's

LOL, not really! you get limited laundry based on cruise length and you get a cheap logo gift that we usually leave in the room! You could ask similar questions about any company. The answer is simple...It works for them. If your question is a form of complaint, then, why don't you do something about it? There are many other cruise lines to choose from and some even do as you suggest you like. Why on earth wouldn't support them instead. Complaining here just doesn't give you results. Especially on an issues like this where if you took a poll, many would not agree with you. You are the customer, if you don't like the way a company does business, find a company where you do. hope this this helps I never really thought about it until I looked at my Frequent Flyer Account a few months back after a trip to San Francisco and saw how many more miles we received for flying Business class. Yes, I'm spending more money but I'm getting more rewards including not having to stuff my 6'3" body into a coach seat on a flight from Florida. After our upcoming cruise, we will move up from gold to the next level - at age 76 it's a little too late to switch cruise lines.

That's the whole point: they paid for the nicer cabin and of course it cost them more money! That is the perk - the nicer cabin, there shouldn't be an additional reward! I'm trying to show my loyalty by booking as many days of my life as I can with Carnival, but I'm not as 'loyal' as the folks staying in a suite because they have more money?!" So, no matter what, it will not please anyone. Frankly, I find Carnival's system to be a nice balance. YMMV. Obviously. Pretty much, and it's just like the argument about the old VIFP program that went by number of cruises. "Why should someone who went on ten 3-day cruises was just as Platinum as someone who went on 10 7-day cruises?" Currently Carnival has a few rewards programs that reward you for different things. VIFP offers rewards for the number of nights you've spent on a Carnival cruise. They have A Carnival Rewards MasterCard that rewards you double the Funpoints for every dollar you spend on Carnival with it. (We use ours for all our Carnival spending) Carnival Player's Club lets you get rewards for how much you spend in the Casino. and I think lastly, you get rewarded for being a Carnival stockholder. So, basically, you can get rewarded for pretty much everything you spend.

The two times the water is useful is when you cruise out of a place like Galveston where cheers doesn’t kick in until day 2. Or when you’re in the room and don’t have any other water and don’t feel like going to a bar to get some.

These perks, no matter what company you are dealing with, are built into the price you pay for goods/services. Finding a better product for you is what is more important. These companies don't give you anything that you can't pay for. In the case of Carnival they give you little. I like the company, they suit my purposes, but if I didn't, I would drop them like a rock no matter what "freebies" they give me. It has been said many times over on this site, those "perks" are the last reason you should keep favoring a cruise company and with Carnival especially since their perks are so poor compared to others, you have little invested. Typically the best perk for most travelers who chose Carnival in the past has been their great pricing. If that has been your experience, then you have already benefited from the best that they offer, money. People now are insisting that if you look at total cost, many other companies offer a better product. If you can find another cruise company where the price is comparable or better than Carnival, you should give them a try, because the few perks given by Carnival are only worth a few dollars. If you can't, then continue to sail with Carnival because they offer a comparable product for the best price and that is worth more than any freebies offered by others. hope this helps

We're very happy with Carnival and feel we get good value for what we spend and are, overall, very satisfied with Carnival - we've only had one bad experience. One reply said that getting a balcony cabin is a perk. No, it's not a perk. A perk is getting something extra that you don't pay for. perk.
