CruiserBruce Posted November 21, 2018 #3 Share Posted November 21, 2018 Agree...hard to read. The better place to post this would be the MSC board, here: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/49-msc-cruises/ But given that a fairly small number of people who are cruisers, are members of Cruise Critic...a longshot. But nice try.
Rare Essiesmom Posted November 21, 2018 #4 Share Posted November 21, 2018 You should have turned the item in to customer service. MSC are the ones who can trace previous occupants of that cabin. EM
navybankerteacher Posted November 21, 2018 #5 Share Posted November 21, 2018 If it is something of any significant value, the owner is likely to contact MSC. Since only a small percentage of cruise passengers are likely to look at this thread on CC, posting here is not an effective way of trying to return the thing. Krazy Kruizers Posted November 21, 2018 #7 Share Posted November 21, 2018 One time we found a tiny box in the safe. We turned it into our concierges (HAL). They contacted Seattle who were able to contact the people who had been in our cabin on the cruise before us. You should not have kept the items but turned them into the front office. Very, very few people who cruise belong to CC -- maybe 1%.

Still, why did you keep <whatever> rather than turn it in, perhaps to Security if you didn't somehow trust front office staff? GC

Rare mom says Posted November 21, 2018 #11 Share Posted November 21, 2018 Agree with the other posters that you were wrong to keep this item and not turn it over to Guest Relations or Security. It's unlikely that the rightful owners of the item will see this thread. Hopefully they will contact MSC, and then have to go through some convoluted route to retrieve their item from wherever you are.

I'm not saying it applies to you but you should be aware that your approach is not the best, even though your intentions may be.

That's what should have happened.

GC One possible reason: if you post like this on CC you can tell yourself that you TRIED to return it. So, if no one shows up to claim the lost object you can tell yourself that it is OK to keep it - because, after all, you TRIED to return it. It’a sort of like the ethical gymnastics people engage in when they say that they only smuggle whiskey on board because the ship doesn’t carry Old Whatever - which is the only blend they can drink. Not making any accusations, but if someone REALLY wanted to return a valuable lost object they found, they would make a REAL effort.

Reason #2 -- person is holding someone else's property hoping for a reward. Sorry, but both reasons are called stealing. I'm not accusing the Op of anything. If something of value, the owner will contact the cruise line. OP says cruise line is fully aware.
