cruisenewb1 Posted December 12, 2018 #1 Share Posted December 12, 2018 (edited) I notice that many of the negative reviews for the Quantum class ships mention overcrowding, compared to other ships both bigger and smaller. However, it seems that actually the Quantum class ships have a relatively high space to passenger ratio: https://www.cruisemapper.com/wiki/761-cruise-ship-passenger-capacity-ratings Can anyone explain this disparity from their experience of these ships? Clarea Posted December 12, 2018 #2 Share Posted December 12, 2018 All I hear repeated is that the Esplanade gets very crowded at times.

gepgelmik Posted December 12, 2018 #4 Share Posted December 12, 2018 I've been on the Anthem three times, and yeah, the Promenade can be a pain at times. During sales or other events, after a big show lets out, etc. In general, though, I didn't find the ship to be over-crowded. Sometimes I was surprised how easy it was to find a place to relax.

mugtech Posted December 12, 2018 #6 Share Posted December 12, 2018 On Anthem it was difficult to get up top after muster drill for sail away. Other than occasional bargain hunter frenzy on the promenade it seemed no more crowded than Mariner or other ships that size.
timf2001 Posted December 12, 2018 #7 Share Posted December 12, 2018 Compared to Norwegian's Breakaway class, Anthem felt downright empty.
PortSideCruzan Posted December 12, 2018 #8 Share Posted December 12, 2018 Hi ☺️ Onboard Anthem the only time I experienced crowds were after muster, after a show at the Royal Theater, after a show at the Two70° venue, during a sale on the Royal Esplanade, and when disembarking. ☺️
Cigar King Posted December 12, 2018 #9 Share Posted December 12, 2018 I was just on the Anthem, and I didn't thin k it was any more or less crowded that any other Royal ship I have been on.

The only differences were...when the Ovation was in Asia, the casinos got crowded....when the Ovation was in Australia, the bars got crowded. 😀
voyager70 Posted December 12, 2018 #11 Share Posted December 12, 2018 I didn't find Anthem more crowded than any other class of ships. Esplanade was no more crowded than Royal Promenade during busy times.
Baron Barracuda Posted December 13, 2018 #12 Share Posted December 13, 2018 Answer depends when you cruise. Winter months with school in session Anthem sails around 4180 double occupancy. In summer with lots of families on board they often reach max capacity of 4905. Don't stress though, our 9 night sailing last July was complete sellout yet we didn't feel overcrowded. lovescats5 Posted December 16, 2018 #14 Share Posted December 16, 2018 We never felt crowded on Anthem. Maybe the same people complaining about crowds are the same one who complain about buffet food. If you are on a ship with other people there will always seem to be a crowd somewhere at sometime. Just find a nice seat and people watch until the sale is over. Loonbeam Posted December 16, 2018 #15 Share Posted December 16, 2018 Overall, I didn't find it crowded. I did find parts of it crowded because while they have a lot of space, some of it used for very low throughput activities. The North Star, iFly, BumperCars etc use a lot of space for relatively few people at that time making other areas more crowded. The promenade could get heavily trafficed, but easy to get around it. Same for the Solarium if weather was less than optimal the chair hogs were out early.
The_Big_M Posted December 17, 2018 #16 Share Posted December 17, 2018 As above, I think the design concentrates people to more specific flows, so some may perceive that it's more crowded. There are certainly very quest areas on the ship. However, I think traffic is more consolidated than it is on other ships, so if you go to certain spaces/locations it may appear crowded if you're looking for things to be unhappy with.
