Navigator Feb 24 2019 - Cancelled

Hi,

I was booked on Navigator of the Seas, February 24th sailing which has just been CANCELLED......  Well, I am not surprised as I knew there was a risk since it was the first cruise scheduled after dry dock.

My questions are:  How do they apply the future cruise credit? How does it appear on my account or do I have to call them to use it?  Can it be used on an existing booking or do I need to use it on a new booking?

Thanks,

Kathy

totally bummed out about this.  had a "girls trip" with friends coming from several different places.  Couldn't rebook on anything that week- everything was sold out.  i guess that i what happens when 3000 people try to rebook at the same time.

So, we will take our refunds and our cruise credit for later use.  Rebooked our flights to Puerto Vallarta and booked an all-inclusive there for less than what we paid to RC.

Was super excited about the changes thy were making to NAV.  Maybe next time.  it was going to be my first cruise as a diamond, too:(

Sorry about missing your sailing as a diamond but the AI in Puerto Vallarta for less $$ sounds like a win - have an awesome girls trip!

I think it is good that they canceled.  I was on the first Empress cruise when she was returned to the fleet.  Originally booked the 14th sailing, but they canceled the first 13 and should have canceled ours also.  Not enough food on board, pans and stoves not compatible so what they did have was undercooked, no a/c in a lot of places, some cabins without water.  Then they didn’t input credit card info correctly so literally hundreds of people were sent to Guest Services after they made it through the very, very long line to disembark.  My late SO, who was normally very calm and considerate, raised such a fuss in the GS area that we were given a special escort off the ship to keep him from stirring up the crowd.  We had a good time anyway and I look at that cruise fondly, but will never again book a ship just out of dry dock.

We were on that Empress sailing also. I agree that ship wasn't ready to sail when we left. So many things weren't yet set up yet, or working correctly. We are now booked on the 3/1 Navigator sailing and if we do sail I understand that everything may not be totally complete and some construction will still be going on. If the amount  that is uncompleted will have a significant effect on the enjoyment of our cruise, I would prefer they cancel it.

Thanks.  I did receive the same email.  However, I was not sure about how the credit is posted.  I know they will reimburse for the cruise payment and shore excursions I booked.  I was just curious about how the future credit is tracked and if there are any restrictions to that credit.  I am also monitoring the link you provided.

Thanks again.

The letter said the FCC would come on the 27th.  I just got the FCC credit by email at 1:37pm.  That is a nice surprise.

Hi,  How does the credit work?  Does it expire?  How do RCI keep track of it?  Can it be applied to an existing reservation.  I guess I could wait for my letter/email.  I just missed a phone call from RCI.  The voice mail indicated that they are reaching out to everyone to confirm receipt of the email.

I am on Mariner on Feb 18.  I as SOOOO glad this didn't happen while I was cruising.

There is a certificate number and amount for each person on the booking. It does expire, and mine is dated for 2/28/2020.

So you pretty much have one year to use it. Do you have to book by 2/2020 or do you have to take a cruise by then?

Just read through all posts.  So sorry to all who were booked on this cancelled trip.

I was wondering if there was a website that we could see the progress on the Navigator as it occurs (outside of ship I mean)?  Am scheduled for the 4/12 voyage.

We planned this cruise a year before then booked last summer for my parent's 70th birthday gift. Booked international flights (24 hour trip with a connection) and set to arrive here in 7 days. This is really really disappointing to say the least. Can't find another replacement cruise and one or two available are thousands more $$$ than what we paid.😡

Sorry.  They also just jacked up the price by $200 p/p for the other Navigator dates in April that did this itinerary. After that, this itinerary, on this ship... is no more.

That's terrible!!! If I'm going to spend thousands of dollars on ANYTHING, I do research! Same should be for any vacation.  I see tons of families complaining about spending money on a Disney Vacation of a Lifetime but they did no research and have no dining or ride reservations.  I'm sorry, but I can't feel overly bad in a situation like this where a small amount of research would have prepared travelers for this possibility.   It's no different than booking during hurricane season and then having your cruise cancelled, shortened, re-routed.

You do realize that many people booked BEFORE they announced that a dry dock/refurb was being scheduled, right?

Or did you not do your research before submitting a very rude post? Did you not know that they canceled cruises a few months ago to accommodate the dry dock? It was amazing what a small amount of research could do to save you looking like a pompous a$$! 🤔

Disagree. Your average cruiser would not / should not have to do research for a cruise advertised on the website of the Cruise Line to see if it is near a dry dock which may increase the possibility of the cruise not taking place.

If you book a cruise departing on date X , then you'd expect the cruise to depart on that date.

It should not be the responsibility of the passenger to go looking around for that sort of information.

It's pretty telling when the general consensus is to accept this company can't manage or execute a large project.

The pier will be ready early 2018.  Sorry, June 2018.  Sorry, August 2018.  Sorry, December 2018.  Sorry,  January 2018. Sorry, March 2019.  Sorry, May 2019.

Just remember that when Perfect Day isn't ready in May.

Who knew it could rain in the Bahamas?  Maybe they should hire a full time chief meteorologist...

There is no meteorologist on earth that can predict the weather we are having in South Florida this year. Historically, we see little measurable rain this time of year, our dry season. It does rain in the Bahamas, just not this time of year.

Wow, I sure hope you never have a cruise cancelled! Instead of basically telling those whose cruise has been cancelled that it's their fault for not doing more research,  you should have done your own research before insulting people. If you had done your research, you would have found that the dry dock wasn't even scheduled until sometime last February/March. RCI actually ended up cancelling several cruises for January and February when the drydock was scheduled.  Most people had already booked their cruises by this time.  The last thing anyone needs after their cruise has been cancelled is to be told they needed to do more research.

Sarcasm.  You should try it sometime...

So many armchair quarterbacks.....

I usually avoid controversy on the boards, put that post was just rude. Some helpful post posts and discussion instead of insults would have been much more helpful to those whose cruise has been cancelled 11 days before sailing.
