This has to be the ultimate in nickel and diming. Why can't they just look at them as cheap advertising as others see you use one of their pens.

The Carnival logo pencils are even cheaper advertising.:classic_wink:🤑

Maybe we can get them to install the pens that are chained to the desk like they have in banks. I’d just like to fill out my luggage tags with something that can’t be erased.

Here's an idea...fill out your baggage tags at home!  You're welcome!

I came home with a few Carnival pens on my first cruise . Next thing you know I've got a (Carnival) beer stein filled with pens from the 6 cruise lines I've sailed . Odd yes but inexpensive ( actually free) mementos .20190324_223034.thumb.jpg.e72799f74cb4169ce25f88777636f7bf.jpg

You’re going on my list with these people.

Is it a good list or a bad list ?

Its just the list. I call it the list. But notice I no longer have a pen. I no longer have a cruising sign. And I no longer have yellow cups for my lemonade. Blue, water. Yellow, lemonade. Not green everything. It’s madness!

I don’t know why people want that stuff though. All I can think about is how many people drank out of those cups. I’ve seen them used as spit cups as well. How many people stuck those pens in their mouth? Maybe their ear or nose...then their mouth. Maybe filled out their luggage tags on the toilet. As for the sign...the other side of it says ”snoozing.” No telling what people are in the middle of when they put that out.

Make sure you hang your pen from your lanyard.....then you can flaunt your pen AND annoy the lanyard haters.

I might even bring my own tablecloth for non-formal nights. 😄

.

Part of me agrees with you

and for a long time I've been saying

that cost-cutting over the longer term ultimately results in an inferior product

and then you've got to try hard to win-back your customer base, now lost.

On the other hand

cruise lines are cutting down on wastage, much of it mindless wastage!

Every cruise that departs has issued about 1,500 pens to about 1,500 cabins.
One per cabin, sometimes two per cabin. Every cruise, every week.

Room stewards have been feeding-back consumption figures

to the bean-counters in Miami.
Room stewards have an accurate idea of who appreciates the pens

and takes them home - and how many broken ones end up in the cabin's rubbish-bin.

(along with reams of silly paper-printed promotional stuff for Diamonds, etc.)

Someone said

you can still get a pen from Guest Services if you need one

and I believe that applies to a pack of playing cards for sea days.
Ask for one and it shall be given. No wastage there.

This is very true.

Funny how as consumers people feel it is ok to watch the bottom line by using cost cutting strategies such as coupons, loyalty programs, and being mindful of wasting products they paid for, but when I corporation tries to do the same thing they are seen as cheap.

I'm not attacking anyone personally, just my general observation from working in the hospitality and medical industries for a number of years.

One night, at my son's Boy Scout meeting, they needed pens/pencils for the troop.  I dug through my purse and found 14 of them.

If you ever cruise with me, find me and I'll happily donate a pen!  🙂

My last cruise, I was at Guest Services to reactivate a sail and sign that was not working, two ladies in front of me were there just to get pens. One said she needed “10 or so”. Oh, and each got their pack of cards. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

10 pens? That’s crazy. I had no idea people were using the ship as an office supply store.
