On Royal Princess Now

OK employees wonderful,food good,Entertainment group extremely funny and good fun.Now the downer if you are highly allergic to smoke it is not the ship for you.

The Casino is below the 7th floor in the open dip one can look down to.Some smoke gets into seventh floor the shopping area.There is a Club Six where the CC meeting is held right next to Churchills and Casino smoke gets also there.........Otherwise a great ship.

We noticed the same thing & just avoided those areas.

The casino has become the new indoor smoking lounge on those Royal class ships.🤢

We spent 70 days on the Royal Princess since late September and never noticed smoke.

The royal class ships have this setup, but it's not bothered me too much, but I don't hang in those areas for any length of time.

Thank you Tonit964. We have a sea day first and then two cruising the bays or glacier days. I am guessing one of those

Just returned from the Royal princess and we didn’t noticed the smoke. We only went to the casino just to see it. We went all over the ship but we had no issue with smoke no place, but some people are more sensitive than others

The smoke smell was really pronounced  in that area last month.  It’s never been that noticable on our other cruises on the Royal or Regal .  In fact, we didn’t smell smoke at all in that area just one year ago. It seemed to permeate that whole area this time.  I commented on it every single time we walked through the shop areas.  The smoke smell was on par with the strong smoke smell I recall while onboard the Grand (near the casino) a couple years ago.  I wish Princess would be more like Celebrity in that regard and not allow smoking in the casino.

We've been on the Royal several times and I could not believe how small and crowded the casino was--i.e. much smaller space than on the older ships. Slots very close together; tables close together and close to the slots.  OTOH, the casinos on the older ships had a lot of wasted space.  Princess can't seem to find a "happy medium".

I was on the Royal cruise April 27, 2019.   I did not find the staff as helpful as I have on other cruises.  I did not want to call them out on their rudeness because they were trying, but they just didn't have the training that they needed.

 

Passenger services were not rude, just not as helpful and not as cheerful as other ships.  

 

Really miss the Sommelier.  Waiter and Asst. Waiter were not familiar with the "new wine list" and they were no help at all when I tried to order something for our table mates.

 

Yes, the smoke from the Casino bothered me on both the casino deck and the deck above

Just got off the Royal and noticed the smoke as well as the loud somewhat unpleasant Casino noise.  Neither of things were very inviting to me to say hey come on in.

 

Some say avoid the area but there are shops above it as well as various sales as well so you can't avoid it completely if you want to browse.

Does the smoke escape out to the atrium area very much?  Seems like with Alfredo's there or Crooner's ( on Enchanted's deckplans) that would be annoying.

I was in the casino on the 5/18 cruise and didn't notice any excessive smoke.  i'm an ex smoker so it bothers me ton.  None upstairs either.  May have been a malfunction on a filter or something but it was no issue.  Formal nights are non-smoking nights for those who don't like the smoke.   I agree that the casinos on Royal and Regal are poorly organized and also have crappy machines.

The casino was my muster station meeting place on a recent Royal Cruise.  For some reason we all sat there for 30 mins after the supposed start time waiting for late arrivals (brain dead rude people)....the entire casino area smelled like stale smoke and was a disgusting place to have to sit for that long even though it was closed and nobody was smoking at that time.

It was not noticed in the atrium, but certainly walking by the casino on the deck above, the smell was strong.  It was unpleasant going to the stores in that area.

I was on the same cruise as the OP & never detected any odor of smoke in the atrium and based on deck plans the open spiral staircase to the casino on the Royal & Regal have been eliminated on the Majestic, Sky & Enchanted likely due to the smoke escaping from the casino to the deck 7 shops.

I would have hated that! It combines two things I find annoying - stale cigarette smoke and people who can't be bothered to be on time.

If you are on Royal Princess for July, can you tell us what the temperatures are like in Alaska?  Also wondering if you are using the new Medallions on the Ocean Medallion program?  Thanks for any reply to this.

No way to predict the weather in Alaska. Like Colorado wait 10 minutes and it will change.

In Alaska we have had snow in July and 70's-sunburn

We used the Medallion on the Royal last month & for the most part apps worked okay.  

 

Along the West Coast the MedallionNet internet worked great however have read numerous posts that in Alaska it’s been poor.  Techies have posted that satellite coverage is not good near the poles including in Alaska’s northern latitudes.

Here is the thing about Alaska - on a single trip your temperatures could range from the 40's (yes it has been that cold on a couple of our Glacier Days, especially with wind) up to the mid to high 70's. I don't think we have ever experienced 80's in Alaska - but we have in Victoria, BC. You could look at forecast for your time frame there that literally will show rain everyday. We have in the past. But some days it didn't rain, some days it sprinkled and other days it poured. We have ziplined in pouring rain, and watched people walk around the deck in shorts one year it was so warm in Glacier Bay. That is truly how unpredictable the weather can be. So I know people get tired of hearing layers - but it is absolutely the only answer. My usual attire in ports is jeans, long sleeve t-shirt or turtleneck, fleece pullover, ankle boots (tennis shoes are fine too, I just prefer my boots) and if it is raining, I'll switch out the jeans for water wicking pants and add a rain resistant windbreaker with hood. But you kind of just have to be prepared for whatever comes and adjust as you go along. Pretty much every tour operates rain or shine, so if liquid sunshine is the order of the day you just don't let it get in the way of enjoying yourself.
