I am sorry to see your photo & hope that the problem is being fixed.  May I ask on what deck/section of the ship is this leak occurring?  I will be on the Grand in October, also in a suite.

Wow I am so sorry to see you are having such a problem with the leaks. I’ve always found the Grand crew members quick to resolve any issue I’ve had. However, I’ve never had anything that bad happen. I am hoping they are even faster to resolve your leaks!  Please let us know.

Thanks. We are in the aft of the ship, Baha 751, deck 11, below the swimming pool! Still got the humidifier going, bed has been taken out and it is a bit of a mess. We had the offer of a vacant penthouse suite of the side of the ship but when you pay extra for the owner suite and the lovely view you get from the rear of the ship and large balcony, I am reluctant to give it up. We can’t settle until hopefully they come this evening to put things back.

We can get changed for dinner in the other suite but it’s not the same and we can’t relax. Different floors and sections of the ship, carting all our stuff about. They’ve all been very nice but it is a nuisance and taken the edge off it a bit.

They advise that the overflow of the pool swelled into the drainage and somehow found its way into our ceiling causing the 7 leaks! At one point it was quite heavy and worrying.

My wife is concerned now about the health and contamination of the water and should we move reluctantly? Legionairres etc.

Anyway hope its it’s fixed soon!

Oh no. Sorry to hear you are having a little extra excitement. I hope Princess compensates you well for the inconvenience. I do love your positive attitude. Continue to enjoy the remainder of your cruise, and I hope your leaks stop.

If you decide to move tell them you want the difference in your fare back. You paid for the Owner's Suite.

Not your fault the ceiling leaked.  Wonder if this happen before and can it happen again?

This isn't a small problem, it's a big one plus like your wife said, maybe a health problem too.

Wish you the best what ever you do. Please still have a good cruise.

Thanks all for your comments. Humidifier removed and bed reinstated by 6pm and all looks as new so at last we can relax.

We stayed put and didn’t want the hassle of the move even for one night, but it all looks fine now , fingers crossed! Front desk been good and follow up calls and they will look at compensation half way through the cruise one everything has settled down and they have communicated with HO. Want to put this behind us now and get on with the cruise.

CC dinner tonight special was a very tasty shrimp cooked with fresh garlic and chilli in a tomato sauce with some al dente cooked pasta, delicious.

Crooners is smaller on the Grand, and the new cocktail menu has removed a lot of the old favourites, much to my wife’s disappointment, the Raspberrytini has gone plus a lot of others. Some new to try which is good, but many of the Bond ones and a lot of others have gone. New wine list however is great and some amazingly good choices.

Day at sea tomorrow so going to enjoy the mini bar, and our balcony and hopefully keep a dry room!!

I read on some other reviews that if the bartenders have been with Princess for awhile, they still can make your Raspberrytinis and other favorites. Let us know if you order old favorite drinks and they make them for you. We are boarding in August and my sister has favorite drinks that might be missing from the menus.

Oh dear. 2am and awoke by 2 new leaks. Night manager just attended and awaiting Plummer and Carpenter to see what needs to be done. Tired and mildly frustrated and a bit annoyed. My wife is a few scales up from me!

Hope it can be fixed as don’t really want to be moving rooms at 3am

Nightowl (very appropriate!), I will see about those cocktails. The waitress who served us last night, this was her first contact! She never heard of them.

Right, back to the leaks......

Night owl here too.

If leak is from the pool like they said, I wonder if they did something wrong when

redoing the pools at dry dock. Not right you have to go through this.

They better do something for you..this is to much. Not right to have to keep

putting up with this at the start of the cruise.

We had the penthouse suite at the very back of this ship (aft) one year. Never had leaks.

Hope you got a good night sleep and things got fixed fast. Sending good thoughts your way.

Sometimes if you ask them and tell him it was on the old menu they're able to make it as long as they have the ingredients. specially usually not a problem as well if it's a bartender who's worked with the line for a while and knows of the drink.

So you should decide about what you want as compensation ahead of the conversation.  I would start with refundable OBC equal to the per day cost of the cabin since it basically is unusable on the days of the leaks and repairs.  Stay calm and let them make you a "goodwill" offer that will take the sting out of the situation.

Truly hate that you are having this issue.  Enjoy your days as much as possible.

Things can and will go wrong on any ship, it is how the line handles it that differentiates them. I have sailed in many aft suites so completely understand how you would be loathe to give up that aft balcony.

I do have faith that Princess will fairly compensate you. This past May Air Canada lost our luggage on our flight to Vancouver.  Even though Princess had no part in this (we did not even use EZ air) they compensated us $250 refundable OBC to help us out. They did this without us asking nor did we expect it. There are many similar stories on these boards and these responses by Princess to the occasional problem are a big part of why I chose to sail Princess when I first researched different cruise lines.

Perhaps you you could move to the PH but retain the use of the OS deck?  I know the Sanctuary is forward on the Grand but it is still quite lovely, perhaps a cruise long pass to that area?

Please let let us know how this situation gets resolved.  I understand it is difficult to ignore the problems and really enjoy your cruise but I do hope you and your wife are able to.

LOVE this!!!!! How kind and generous, in order to help ease some weight off.

Thanks for your comments and observations everyone. We were escorted to Caribe at 3am this morning and are feeling a bit weary. Awaiting an update from front desk, but the night manager last night was very apologetic.

Yes, it has taken the shine off the vacation as we can’t truly settle and enjoy our room. We are hoping to get back to the room later today, but I thought that yesterday!

Yes, I agree, it is now how it is addressed and put right. I have remained calm and polite and I understand it is no ones fault directly, but I do hope the upset and minor distress it has caused my wife and I (all relative of course to what is going on in the world), but as 2 people pointed out, we have paid a lot to enjoy the room but we haven’t so far. I hope this is recognised, but we do have access for our OS, just we cannot relax and enjoy it, through fear of getting soaked and there is very dirty water, I saw it in the bucket, and dampness all around.

We we were in the sanctuary yesterday and it was very windy indeed and quite cool, so it wasn’t that great, but we can make the best of what we’ve got and we will enjoy what we can for sure, just that edge has been taken off and we cannot quote settle in, if you understand.

Thanks again all. I’ll update as and when.

This should be treated as a "move down offer" with 100% of cruise fare paid applied as REFUNDABLE OBC ...

now, it seems like the OP may not be in this position as they have turned down the not yet offered move down offer ...

and chose to continue to stay in the cabin, even with the problems ... "their" choice as Princess has offered alternative suite cabin(s)

I'm really bummed to hear about all of your troubles in your original cabin. I hope they compensate you fairly and that you're able to get comfortable somewhere (even if it's not in your original room) and enjoy the next week ahead of you.

Just met with the very nice customer services manager who was very apologetic. He explained they are having to replace the whole ceiling pipe work which could be a big job and it might be today, or one more night in the Caribe suite. He acknowledged it was a smaller suite than we have (that the other lady wouldn’t. I checked and it is S2 to S4 category) and fully appreciated our upset.

He will look to compensate us, add some OBC and has given us a complimentary dinner at Crown Grill plus wine tonight and a spa treatment. Unfortunately it is formal night tonight and they are booked but we will get in another day. I think that is a fair and intermediate redress, and it will relieve a bit of the stress. He hopes to have us back in our room by tomorrow at the latest. Fingers crossed, but a nice empathetic exchange.

Sounds like the compensation is that a good start. Do use that spot treatment for you and your wife just to help relax you even more. I hope after the pipe fix you guys can enjoy that room as intended. I once again I totally love your positive attitude and outlook. Continue to endure that cruise.

Seems to be a good start to compensation. In my experience on this class of ship the OS is around $1500-$2000 more than a midship penthouse. I hope your refundable OBC exceeds $2000. If it doesn’t, you can always ask to speak to the manger and politely make a case as to why you feel a higher amount is fair.

In any case you’re in Alaska and you simply cannot help but have a great time.  It is a simply stunningly beautiful place.

I'm so sorry to hear about the problems with leaks in your cabin. I must say, we have spent a good many days and nights on the Grand as we love to cruise from San Francisco to Alaska, but in all of my years cruising with Princess it is the leakiest ship we have ever seen. We never had an issue in our cabin, but so many times we have witnessed leaks in public areas with buckets set up and more than once sitting in public areas, particularly the Vista Lounge for some reason, I have been dripped on from above. Perhaps it is a flaw with that particular ship, but dealing with it in a public area is a minor nuisance. Dealing with it in your cabin - especially as bad as it has been in yours - is an entirely different scenario. I hope you get the problem resolved and are adequately compensated for the discomfort it has created on what should be a very fun and relaxing cruise!

Our beautiful room! Tried to upload the bomb site that is our room but it took for ever and kept failing, so I’ll try as and when I get decent internet! It’s more challenging than they thought but hopefully late tomorrow afternoon we might be back. They are having to create a bespoke pipe.

And to top it all a poor passenger has been helicoptered off for emergency medical care, right outside our makeshift room. Somber to see as the helicopter circles just above our balcony and a bit scary. It puts our situation into perspective I guess. Another night here has been confirmed as the problem was worse than first thought.

Champagne waterfall now though I expect captain will be late as the incident is going on right now outside our balcony. Then we have the Grill. Captain didn’t attend.

They’ve cancelled Juneau because of the delay with the ill passenger and replaced it with Scenic cruising which is a shame, but of course you have to think of the ill passenger.

Lovely dinner and they threw in a $100+ bottle of wine and we got plenty of attention including from the deputy maitre d’. Just want our room !!

What a cruise so far and it’s only day three!!

You can look at this entire crew situation as what a great story to tell in the years to come. About two summers ago when I was in Alaska they had to airlift a passenger off who needed emergency surgery. And I remember to Captain coming on and giving us updates on it. So he also announced that they had to cut our next stop in Juneau rather short to 1/2 day versus a full day. Of course he had plenty of upset passengers but I am one of the opposite ones where you put things in perspective and say oh my goodness I hope that other person gets the attention they need. I'm glad to hear you had such a lovely and wonderful dining experience in the crown grill. Can't wait to see what those photos look like of the bombshell. Hoping you get into your cabin later today. Enjoy the scenic route!
