Cruzinnana47 Posted October 6, 2019 #1 Share Posted October 6, 2019 Sailing one week from today on the Serenade and wondering if the coffee served in the buffet is made from concentrate or is there station with freshly made brewed coffee? We like our coffee strong.
nwcruiselover Posted October 6, 2019 #2 Share Posted October 6, 2019 (edited) I don’t know whether the buffet coffee is made from concentrate or fresh brewed, but it’s nothing to write home about, IMHO. I also like good, strong coffee and the only place I have found it on the ship is at the pay coffee bars. To me it’s worth paying the price to get good coffee. They sell a coffee card that gives some savings. The card can be purchased at the coffee bar. Edited October 6, 2019 by nwcruiselover
oddly excitered Posted October 6, 2019 #3 Share Posted October 6, 2019 We haven't sailed Serenade but have found the windjammer coffee to be underwhelming, however the coffee served in the main dining rooms is super strong and we like strong also. To get a great cup you can always grab a cup at whatever specialty shop is on board for a charge. I'm on a cruise and lovin it so why not enjoy something special when you want?
JamesWillard Posted October 6, 2019 #4 Share Posted October 6, 2019 The Windjammer (buffet) will have several stations with freshly- brewed coffee. It's usually very good. In addition, on Deck 5 will be an area with (free) freshly-brewed coffee, sandwiches, pizza, ice water, and several desserts.
dplusd Posted October 6, 2019 #5 Share Posted October 6, 2019 Coffee is fresh brewed...not the syrup concentrate like on Princess. We find the regular coffee in Windjammer, Cafe Promenade and MDR very acceptable. I know on Princess we have to buy the coffee card just to get the fresh brewed coffee...but not on Royal.

No Cafe Promenade on Serenade. Serenade has Cafe Lattetudes where you can buy espresso based coffees.
Cruzinnana47 Posted October 6, 2019 Author #7 Share Posted October 6, 2019 Thanks for the replies...we'll check out the coffee in WJ the 1st day, if it's weak, we may buy a coffee card. We always do that on Princess, their coffee is notoriously weak...
Rare MandyMooToo Posted October 6, 2019 #8 Share Posted October 6, 2019 Coffee in the MDR is usually Illy coffee which is excellent. Not sure what is being served in the WJ but the Cafe Promenade serves Seattle’s Best.
A2Mich Posted October 6, 2019 #9 Share Posted October 6, 2019 I also think the MDR coffee is better than what is in the WJ. But, WJ coffee isn’t horrible. Not sure if they are different brands, or simply a matter of freshness.
Rare vacationlover_mn Posted October 6, 2019 #10 Share Posted October 6, 2019 I actually don’t mind the coffee, but I’m a fan of strong, with skim milk in it 🙂
SarcasmSpasm Posted October 6, 2019 #11 Share Posted October 6, 2019 Just got off Allure today. Biggest complaint for the whole week was the AWFUL coffee available. I’m a black coffee drinker...so for me, it was nearly undrinkable.
Sunshine3601 Posted October 7, 2019 #12 Share Posted October 7, 2019 I have sailed several times on serenade ots and always found the coffee in wi jammer weak but fresh. Main dining room good and fresh. Cafe latitudes is my favorite spot as I usually get a lattexwith extra shot of espresso. I think lattetudes has regular coffee that is free but we always buy the coffee card online definitely worth it. If you go on larger ships that have a Starbucks we avoid them as they will do several punches for a grande always go to cafe promenade on larger ships. Usually one in wdj. Coffee in room service is horrible on every ship I tried. I dont know why but it is very bitter.
Rare BirdTravels Posted October 7, 2019 #13 Share Posted October 7, 2019 (edited) The coffee is a bit light for our taste. But, it is still a good hot drink. While we like a good strong coffee, we're not about to pay for coffee on a cruise ship. Edited October 7, 2019 by BirdTravels

travelplus Posted October 7, 2019 #15 Share Posted October 7, 2019 If you have access to the Diamond Lounge then you can go for their Espresso Machine. The coffee at Park Cafe and the ones by the WJ(Coffee Station) on the Brillance have been really good. I love the Illys and Seattle's Best. cb at sea Posted October 7, 2019 #17 Share Posted October 7, 2019 Whatever it is, it's STRONG in the WJ....too strong for me. I find the MDR coffee to be much better...not as strong. I think Starbucks is strong and bitter, as is the WJ coffee. Give it a try.

The best coffee I had was in the suite lounge (they had an espresso maker) and at Starbucks. 😕
