For dessert Patti had the vanilla crème brulee which she didn’t really care for, while I had the coffee crème cake…..

After dinner, we went out into the Atrium where Captain Renda was doing his toast…..

Afterwards, Patti was feeling tired so she went back to the cabin to read. I went over to the Skybox Sports Bar hoping for the Yankee game, but got the Cubs and Reds game instead. I watched for a while, then went back to the Red Frog Pub to watch the Hip Stars play and have a few beers. The Hip Stars were very good.

I was getting tired so I made my way back to the cabin. Here is tonight’s turn down service. The VIFP gift was the lanyards and our invitations to the Diamond event have arrived…..

Our toilet is flushing again. I’m happy to report that there were no further issues with the toilet for the rest of the time we were on the Sunrise.

Coming up next: Our day in Charleston and then the fun really begins!

It’s time for some food porn! Just a note here. When ordering our starters and mains, they also wanted us to order our desserts at the same time. We were both put off by this. Who knows if you’ll even want dessert until after you have finished the main course?

We had the same experience on the Conquest on January and really did not like it. I hope this will not expand to all ships.

I have no idea how I’ve missed this the past few days but I found it and I’m all caught up.

Hey Greg! Glad to have you along for the ride once again! 😀

Tyler was on the Splendor alongside Lee Mason the last we saw him. We sailed with Tyler and Lee for a total of 21 days. I really liked Tyler and expect he'll make CD someday.

Tyler is a great guy. He will be back on the Splendor after the dry dock in Singapore, taking it to Australia. He will be there until April. Lee will be there until February. 😎

Different group of violinists than we had, interesting.  Cannot wait to hear about the next part of the trip.

They were really good,  but then again it seems like they are all really good!😀

We are not really sushi people. Patti said that she wanted to try it, but never did. :classic_cool:

Glad you got to have a Caribbean Colada. Patti is addicted to the mocha chocolate getaways now. :classic_biggrin:

We've loved all of our cruises to Canada. There is a review of our seven day NE / Canada cruise on the Sunshine in my signature. :classic_cool:

Ditto on the sushi!  I ordered/had 2 mocha chocolate getaways at the Diamond party. We must be twins separated at birth lol.

LOVE your formal night pictures!

Thanks so much. Patti wore that same dress on our honeymoon over 25 years ago. She wanted to create the same staircase photo we took back then. I'm trying to locate that photo, and if I do  I'll share.😀

This was our first experience with this. They didn't do it on the Inspiration or  Splendor last April. 😎

A very good add in love to listen to them before dinner.

On my 2 MSC cruises this year on Armonia, they wanted you to order the full meal at the start.  It worked out OK.  Their cheese plate isn't as good as Carnival's.  That's my "go to" when I know I'll eat a couple of appetizers and my main.  I'm not much for sweets and usually don't have room for them anyway.  And I don't need those empty calories.  I'd rather have another drink than a dessert! 😊

I’m sure I’m in the minority but it would actually work better for me since I like to get in and out. Usually once a cruise I have to wait 20 minutes to order desert because of showtime. One of the cruises last year I just got tired of waiting and left.

She dresses Mikey up with the latest in women’s cruise wear…..

After the Morning Show I head up to the Red Frog Rum Bar to hang out with Yoki and Ryan. Patti stays for the Fun Aboard, Fun Ashore show in the Liquid Lounge…..

After the show, Patti collected me from the Red Frog Rum Bar and we made our way down to the Sea Day Brunch, which is held in the Sunshine Restaurant on Deck 3 aft. There was no line at all, and we got a booth for two. Here is the new Sea Day Brunch menu…..

To be continued…..

Mikey was such a good sport.  I loved his suits, and somehow they didn't look tacky even though they were over the top 🙂

I spotted Patti at the show, but it wasn't convenient to say hello.  They gave away a lot of goodies at the show - including shore excursions - so it is worth it to go if someone is interested.

We also went to brunch. DH had the steak & eggs, which doesn't list that it comes with fries so he ordered another side and was pretty full.  I had the pancetta scrambled which was very tasty, but the bread was very hard.  We split the honey butter biscuit and it wasn't what I was expecting.  I was thinking a soft biscuit like Popeye's or KFC with a honey butter on the side or maybe honey cooked in, but it was dry and maybe more like a seafaring biscuit (that's one tough cookie).

Tonight is Cruise Elegant Night, so we got dressed early as we wanted to get some formal pictures taken. We had forgotten to do this on our 25th anniversary cruise on the Splendor, so we wanted to do this now.

I love these pictures of the two of you.  I'm sure the photographer posed you, but it looks natural and effortless.  You look happily in love too ❤️

What a great reward for her hard work!  A few years ago I lost enough weight to wear my senior prom dress (over 20 years after prom) and it was so nice.  Unfortunately I got sloppy with my diet and lazy with my fitness, so now I need to lose it again🙄I have a goal for next year for our 25th anniversary (10/21) to drop 50# - a challenge but doable.

I can see that working for you. Get in and out then head to the Alchemy Bar and work on your "live" review.😀

Beautiful formal pictures, Jeff!

On Horizon last Oct. we had YTD and were always asked to order dessert with the rest of the meal. It doesn't feel right.

So a win on Sat. for my team, but a loss yesterday.

Heather

Thanks Heather! We are still looking for our first win. Blew a 4 to 1 lead at home yesterday. ☹

My last 2 Sunshine cruises we have had to order dessert at the beginning of the meal as well....I am not a fan! I really prefer waiting to see how I feel at the end of the meal. Oh well.

We feel the same way, but it probably speeds up the process some.😎

Ahoy! Cruise Critic family. My lovely wife Patti and I have recently returned from B2B cruises on the newly refurbished Carnival Sunrise (nee Carnival Triumph). I apologize for the delay in getting this review started, but the “cruise crud” that I caught the last couple of days on board ship, developed into full blown bronchitis once we got home. The meds have finally started to kick in, so here I am, ready to bring you all the action.

I still have a multitude of behind the scenes prep work to do, but I have enough done to get this party started. For those that are wondering, our go to camera is the Canon PowerShot XS710 HS, and our water camera is the Fuji FinePix XP60.

Our format will remain the same as our past reviews with a day by day account. As always, there will be many, many pictures with plenty of explanations and details. We strive to make you feel that you are cruising right along with us. So, grab yourself a DOD, hop on board with us, and join the fun!

We met quite a few Cruise Critic members during our 13 days aboard the Sunrise. Some may have been in some of our pictures, but for privacy sake, I will not identify who they are. I know many of you will be reading, so if you see yourself and you want to say “Hey that’s me or us” I say go or it!

We love to respond to readers and answer questions. A lot of information about a lot of different things shows up during a review, and that’s a good thing. This worked so well during our last review, that I’m going to ask one small favor from all of you once again to help keep things neat and flowing. One of the good changes when Cruise Critic updated their forums, was that I am not restricted now to the amount of images that I can use in a post. Though I will strive to keep the amount of images I use in a post to around 10, the point is that most posts will be longer than in the past. If you need to quote my posts, or any other posters quotes, to ask a question, make a statement , or for any other reason, please try to remember to edit the quotes down to what you are asking about or thoughts that you are conveying. This will help cut down on scrolling down through multiple long posts to get to fresh content. Thank you all so much for your help!

We booked these cruises over a year and a half out, and when we booked them we were booked on the Carnival Triumph. I was happy that the Carnival Triumph was coming back to New York, as I had sailed on her twice (1999 & 2002) out of New York up to Canada. Patti had never sailed on the Carnival Triumph, so she was looking forward to it. It was several months after we booked that the announcement was made that the Triumph was going to be refurbished and renamed the Carnival Sunrise. We had enjoyed our cruises on the Sunshine, so we had no concerns about sailing on a refurbished ship.

Now, the weeks that we chose made for a very interesting and unique B2B. The first half of the B2B would be a six day cruise to Bermuda with two overnights…..

IMG_0183-X3.jpg

I think that everyone pretty much knows that this didn’t happen thanks to hurricane Humberto, but instead of giving you the end game now, I’ll explain bit by bit during the review, so you’ll understand what we knew and when we knew it.

The second half of the B2B would be a seven day cruise to New England and Canada…..

IMG_0184-X3.jpg

And so we counted down the months to these cruises, when about a month before we get this email from Carnival…….

IMG_0185-XL.jpg

The Sunrise will take the passengers from the 9/12 4 day Bermuda cruise back to the Manhattan Cruise Terminal, drop them off, then sail to Brooklyn to embark the 9/16 cruise. This will push back the check-in times by two hours.

The roll call boards lit up like fireworks on the Fourth of July, and there was much gnashing of teeth, and I really couldn’t blame them. Many who were flying in from other parts of the country had booked hotels in midtown Manhattan, and now they had to figure out how to get to Brooklyn to board the ship. For us it really didn’t matter as we were planning to use a car service to get to the port. In fact, getting to Brooklyn is easier for us than going to Manhattan. Bottom line is, Carnival had no control over this.

Now all that remains is to count down the days until we board the ship.

To be continued…..

Just noticed this review! I cannot wait to read it, as I’ve been waiting for another Jamman54 review!

Jeff, I've been saying to myself the last couple days, I gotta check and see if you were posting your cruise log. And you have. 😀

Looks like Yourself and Patty like sailing out of Brooklyn than Manhattan. I've sailed out of Brooklyn on Princess back in 2014 to Canada/New England. I like Brooklyn much better.

Hey Barb! I was wondering when you were going to show up! Glad you're along for the ride  This was the first time we sailed from Brooklyn. For the most part we liked it, but missed the sail away down the Hudson River. :classic_cool:
