Global Entry at Fort Lauderdale on Celebrity?

We went through two times in the past year. First time, no lines anywhere so GE didn’t apply. Last April, some small lines but they did have a dedicated GE line. Walked up, showed our card and we were out. 30 seconds maximum.

As of last fall, there were no machines, but there was a separate line for Global Entry. You may have to ask where it is. It took two seconds to go through.

I haven’t heard of actual machines in the few cruise ports where you can use GE.  Just separate lines – – which is all you really care about, getting through quickly.

Thanks. That is a shame as have GE, but no cards. Not sure if we would be able to use it.

How do you not have the GE card?  You are supposed to be sent that when you are accepted into the program.  (Or are you about to cruise and only just got your GE acceptance?)

We sailed Equinox in June. When we got off, there were facial recognition stations for those with passports. Once cleared, we got our luggage and left. That was the extent of Customs/Immigration.

We just experienced that at Cape Liberty getting off the Summit.  It was great; no lines.  Easiest disembarkation ever.

We live on the other side of the pond - so are not American 🙂  We have used GE for a while when flying into the USA twice a year. We do not get cards.

Thanks for explaining that.  I had no idea there was something like that available.

That is good to hear as there was no formal Global Entry line when disembarked Reflection at Port Everglades this past Jan.  When we asked an attendant about a GE line, they didn't know what I was talking about.  A supervisor ended up letting us into an empty line that took us (after considerable walking because the line was so long) to the front of the line.

I didn't realize that Global Entry is available to non-US citizens.

We're Canadian...went to the nearest border crossing to be interviewed, etc received entry notification online in about 6 weeks and a plasticized card shortly after.

Re Ft Lauderdale GE...last trip through, when we tried to find the location of the entry line, no one knew what that was.  Other posters above have said it now works better.

We’ve had to ask where the Gobal Entry Lane was then show our Nexus cards & then they told us which lane to take. usually right down the middle very short line.  We have had to ask every time, but works great used it last 3 cruises out of Fort Lauderdale.

Have paid for and been approved for GE, But holy hell the interviews are booked crazy far out. January is the earliest I'm seeing in my area! Considering a walk in attempt.

How have you been approved if you haven't had your interview yet?

There are no kiosks at cruise ports and GE is available at very few cruise ports, but Port Everglades is one of them. You just need to ask where the GE line is and show your card. When we last used it in December after disembarking Silhouette they escorted us to the shortest line and waved us through. Even though we had our GE cards in hand they never looked at them.

Port Everglades was the first cruise port to adopt the GE program, starting about 6 years ago (we did our 5-year NEXUS renewal last year), but port staff still seem to struggle with the concept. It's getting better, but varies cruise to cruise and terminal to terminal.

If you have paid and been "approved" but not yet gone for your interview, you've only been approved for scheduling an interview. Depending on your area some places have longer wait times. We would have had to wait for 2 months for an interview at the nearest Philly location when our provisional approval came through (Philadelphia International Airport), however if we wanted to go to Newark, NJ we could have it the next day. I just checked back daily for cancellations in Philly (we weren't in a rush) and scheduled when there were openings. Did you check other locations?

Yes, mine was initially six (6) months out for scheduling in PHL.

I checked in daily at the website and finally got an appointment within three (3) weeks through cancellations..

bon voyage

We are only about 15-20 minutes further from Newark than Philly and did contemplate going there to just get it done but decided that since we gad time before our next trip just to wait for Philly openings.

This may have changed with rollout of facial recognition but  to get expedited treatment at Port Canaveral and Miami used to need to show actual GE card.  Having it linked to passport wasn't good enough.

Earlier this year at Port Everglades we had the same issue, needing to show port staff our cards to be allowed in the (empty) expedited line but CBP officer only wanting passports. It's great having everything linked to your passport, but as long as the ports lack kiosks and someone needs to control entry to the expedited line, the cards are the only way for port staff to determine eligibility.

I guess it depends on the dock/terminal where disembarkation takes place.  We were on an EDGE cruise and disembarked at the new terminal where all we needed to do was look at a camera to clear Immigration & Customs (yes, we have Global Entry).
