vtcruising Posted November 19, 2019 #1 Share Posted November 19, 2019 (edited) Celebrity is celebrating International Women's Day in an interesting manner. They will have 27 women from 17 countries running the show on the Edge. They will also have special events, such as films featuring female leads or directed by women, Q&A with the female leadership team and even Women of the World Trivia. CruiseHR Posted November 19, 2019 #7 Share Posted November 19, 2019 (edited) Cool news! Any thoughts on how any other sailings could have the same crew onboard - Namely the March 29th Edge sailing that I'm on? 🙂 Edited November 19, 2019 by CruiseHR
JFontaine Posted November 19, 2019 #8 Share Posted November 19, 2019 It would be great if the majority of these leaders were on for an extended time (typical contract) and that this was not a publicity stunt.

I'm pretty sure they ARE on other ships in the fleet. It's just pulling them all together for a special cruise.

We've seen it with men since the beginning.
TeeRick Posted November 19, 2019 #11 Share Posted November 19, 2019 Some are cynical but I think this is a great thing! Even if one time. I am glad that Celebrity has achieved enough hiring and advancement to be able to actually do this. Kudos!
hopeless holiday booker Posted November 19, 2019 #12 Share Posted November 19, 2019 On our last cruise they had a talk from women officers on our cruise from engineers to hotel director including Sue Denning. It was really interested so don't knock it just enjoy it.

In December 1986 (the 30th to be exact), American Airlines had what is believed to be the first all-female flight crew on a flight from DC to Dallas headed by Capt Beverly Bass. And it was a huge news event. Bass was actually flying reserve but traded with another pilot to make it happen. Woman Power! 🙂
vtcruising Posted November 19, 2019 Author #14 Share Posted November 19, 2019 I looked at the availability and they have suite guarantees and other pretty good prices. It would be a fun cruise for my sisters and me, but unfortunately I can't get out of work at this late date.

Life Buoy Posted November 20, 2019 #16 Share Posted November 20, 2019 The ERA is still a few Sates short of becoming law. Hopefully, the day is near when this type of story is not news. The "best" people should be hired and promoted based on ability, not race, gender or nationality.

grandgeezer Posted November 20, 2019 #18 Share Posted November 20, 2019 A complete waste of money, resources and peoples time for what? A big publicity stunt, nothing more. They better hope nothing negative happens on this cruise, if it does, they will set the movement back 50 years.
