Whilst that is probably true, don't forget the hipster element. They bought vinyl back and are trying with cassette tapes. 😉 Wax cylinders can't be far off...

 

Besides, Auntie has that Sounds app that blurs the lines between radio and streaming.

 

Anyway... Ionafest. I'm sure those who are choosing to book because of it will have a great time. And who knows, it could be the start of a format that can be adapted (in a much smaller form) across the fleet. They already to the SCD and Food Heros cruises - so I could see them plussing what they already have.

We booked on this cruise back in May,  only as it had cabins available that suited us on that date. We had looked at dates two weeks either side, but they had nothing that suited.  I assumed, like most people, that it would have already been named by the time we sailed. We discussed changing our cruise but decided that it would be a celebration that would be a once in a lifetime event, especially as we had sailed when P&O celebrated the 175th Anniversary.

Well I had vaguely thought about booking this as my husband quite likes one of the acts, then I saw the price and the small print below. Not worth what they are charging for a one week cruise in my opinion, particularly when the headline acts could change and you are not guaranteed to get into events even if they do appear. First come first served according to the blurb.
 

I’m sure it will be fun for those who do decide to go and look forward to hearing about in in reviews.

Internet (ie, online) radio is very popular, with a choice of (literally) thousands of stations from all over the world, some very specialised.

I think it is a bold and brave move by P&O which further confirms their desire to build a new customer demographic for Iona and her sister ship due in 2022.  Whilst it is not to my taste, I understand the need for them to do this.

What I do think is wrong however is that they have decided to do this after many people may have booked this cruise expecting quite a different atmosphere and possibly more varied entertainment on board during their cruise.  Also, I do feel it is pretty poor announcing this and putting it on sale without really confirming which artists will be on board.

I'm afraid it is the latest in a number of decisions made at late stages which really doesn't instill trust in the company.

I would have enjoyed this, but booked the week after unfortunately on launch day. Hey ho, story of my life, arriving late to the party.

The UK music cruises seem to sell well for good money.

 

Marella do a short one every Sept and Floating Festivals do two each year sept/Oct one musical theatre the other more throwback artists. 

Next year they are also doing a Jane Mcdonald trip.

Er Bonny Lad, I use Spotify on all my devices and Shazam as well. Only ever listen to a radio in the car. For cruising I have a whole library of songs to listen to.

But do these internet  features have radio 2 DJs introducing each track I wonder, if not would you go out of your way on a cruise to visit a show with a DJ as the main attraction? Which was the point I was trying to make.
