I have never tried an oatcake, but willing to give it a go.  I do love Welshcakes (have to admit having a bit of Welsh blood) and occasionally have some for breakfast, warmed in the oven and a bit of butter on.  Not very healthy - especially as my Dr., now wonders if I have heart failure and is suggesting an echocardiogram, when he rang earlier.

I like Welshcakes too.  Haven’t had one for ages, and would probably need to get cooking to get a good one.  Plus Easter biscuits.  Our local baker makes nice ones - I should look out as I expect they’ll be around soon

Try not to worry too much about your health (so easy to say; so hard to do!). It is so frustrating being in a “What if, what if?” situation whilst you wait for test results, or more tests, or a specialist opinion, and we let our imagination run riot.  Hopefully all will be resolved soon

Thanks, everyone for good wishes.  All going well so far; I have just had the anticoagulant delivered,  by my kind chap from the pharmacy, and Doc. needs blood tests in a couple of weeks to see how they are doing (hope for no bad side effects).  He probably wants to see me to decide if I need an echocardiogram.  My only real symptom is shortness of breath after exertion; not when sitting or lying down,  which I did get on the longish walk to outpatients yesterday!  I know that 'heart failure' is not as dramatic as it sounds, as Frank and Avril have discovered, so am keeping pretty cheerful apart from sometimes if I wake at 3 a.m. of course.

Re oatcakes - are they really only good if from your local bakery, or are any of the branded  ones from the supermarket good?  I would like to try some, if anyone can recommend good ones.

The ones from the supermarkets are OK.. they'll be called Staffordshire Oatcakes and be quite thick. Best warmed up.  I thought Ocado did them locally but not sure anywhere else ...

After heavy dose of antibiotics you would benefit from a good pre biotic as well as taking a probiotic.

Eddie is spot on about the foods as well. Any fermented food is good. Have you tried making your own sauerkraut, it’s really easy, better than shop bought and full of good bacteria. Miso soup is also really good

Saurkraut

finely shred a medium to large white cabbage

2 table spoons of fine salt

1 teaspoon of caraway seed

massage the salt into the cabbage for about 10 minutes (you should start to get some liquid out), make sure every bit of cabbage is mixed well in, massaging will start to create a brine

add in the caraway at the end and mix through

place the cabbage in a sterilised sealable glass jar and weight it down to ensure the liquid from the cabbage covers the cabbage.

keep at room temperature for about a week.

It should start to ferment in a day or two, NB make sure you “burp” it twice a day as the gas starts to build up and can cause the jar to explode. Just press down on the cabbage and you will see the gas bubbles coming up.

Lakeland sell a proper fermentation jar with a gas release valve and glass weights specifically for making saurkraut. I think amazon sell them as well. I use them as I make saurkraut regularly.

Once  it’s ready transfer to Kilner jar or some such and store in the fridge. The finished product should have a fresh cabbagey smell. If there is a sour smell then bacteria has got into the process, everything needs to be sterilised through the whole process.

hope your stomach sellae’s soon.

Tried sauerkraut when I was at conferences in Germany & the Czech Republic, must admit it is not something I would eat again.

i had a chat with the pharmacist at my local pharmacy this morning and he has recommended some rehydration salts which will help, but he said my body should get used to them after 3 days and I will see a reduction in the side effects.

I must admit I don’t feel that nauseous this morning, I had some stewed apple and natural yoghurt for breakfast as well as a banana.

Found this .. a nice little short film with even Robbie's dad making an appearance !

Oh wow thats my Hole in the Wall! Glenn never did get his new build and the old shop was demolished to make way for new houses, such a shame. Thank you Presto2, brings back a lot of memories.

It’s not everyone’s cup of tea but homemade tastes completely different to anything commercial. Full of good gut bacteria but no use if you can’t stand the taste 😀.

I’m glad you are improving.

Indeed every day is a school day - I had no idea there was any other kind than the Scottish ones (bannocks) which I have to say I’m not a fan of.  Re the Welsh cakes I like the ones sold in M and S.

Very difficult to get these away from Staffordshire, so we're going to have to make some.  Any thoughts from local experts on this recipe please?

Sounds good, give them a go and let us know how you get on. Make sure they are really thin though.

We have just been out for lunch and are home early because the heating was off in the restaurant so it was to cold to contemplate a dessert or another drink.  The owner was actually going around apologising to everyone.  I think that it would have been a good idea to have messaged everyone who had booked to warn us.  Fortunately we will be taking the teenagers out next week for lunch so going to their favourite restaurant.

The good news is that the post has brought DH's biopsy results and it has turned out to be a seborrheic keratosis so thankfully benign.  We can now look forward to our cruise that we were worried that we might have to cancel.  I can't  wait to get away now.

And Azura is parked the other way around this week - perhaps the captain was feeling a bit lazy and didn’t fancy reversing into the space so just drove in and said “that will do”…

Most likely due to last Friday they were jet washing windows and thought this week we will do other side of ship .

Yes my Doctor said the same thing and said it is totally the wrong thing to call it.  He said even the name scares people who are probably already anxious.   He said it can be managed  for donkeys years if done properly and he just wished the term could be got rid of.

Hope all goes well.  My best wishes x

That's what my specialist said but unfortunately that's what it is ,part of your heart has

ceased to work.  As you rightly say it can be managed in most cases with diet, medication

and fluid intake .

It cannot be cured so we have to take good care of what still works .

Would be better if they stuck the word "partial"  in the name .

@lincslady  cross your bridges as you come to them , you may not have H F 🙂

Sounds like Angina.

This spray under the tongue is what relieves Angina.

Watched this the other day on Talking Pictures - might be of general interest to anyone fascinated by the history of cruising:

SS France
Video Description:

SS France. In 1973 the ship was the world's largest afloat - the longest ever built at the time. This captivating film follows a sailing from Southampton to New York.

Or when I walked past this morning they had a crane lifting pallets of stuff up to the top deck where (iirc) the shuffleboard area is.
