Royal Caribbean Cruisers -- How Are Things Where You Are? (was "Routine" 😁 day in lockdown... how was yours?)

Recommended Posts

I mentioned this either in here or in Bella's thread but I will repeat. I was at the Newport Folk Festival in the 60s.  An experience I will always remember fondly.. Judy Collins was amazing; Bob Dylan was just....Bob Dylan. I never cared for his voice.  Sounds like he's holding his nose while he sings. Yes he is iconic but not for just his singing voice alone. His personna, his song writing skills have a lot to do with his success.  He was awarded the Nobel prize in literature.  He was a singer of protest songs and although there is no doubt his influence is legendary,  he never would have made it on his voice alone.  That's only my opinion.

And speaking of music, what about Gloria Estefan, Carol King??

Did you or anybody see Stanley Tucci special on Italy I think it was 10 episodes on cnn  each one was a different area of Italy featuring all the great food on first episode he went to a pizza place where the margarita pizza was first made in Naples , we went there 20 years ago by far my favorite pizza I ever had . Have only been to Italy twice but would love to return, my last European cruise had 5 stops in Italy but unfortunately Naples was not one. I heard Sophia Lauren speak about 5 years ago and we were able to ask her a question and we asked what her favorite food was and she responded I am from Naples so of course it’s pizza.

Wonderful memories. I'm sorry I missed the Tucci series. Sounds interesting.

Last concert was 2019 Elton John (Goodbye Yellow Brick Road) at the SAP Center in San Jose.

Also saw Fleetwood Mac there 2018.  Linsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks went to the same high school as me.  I wasn't there yet though when they were there.

Also:

Eagles

Doobie Brothers

Chicago

Earth Wind & Fire

Dennis DeYoung (Styx)

Spandau Ballet

Gladys Knight and the Pips

Air Supply

Starship

America

Darryl Hall & John Oats

Frankie Vallie and the Four Seasons

Neil Diamond

Barry Manilow

Carpenters Tribute Band

Pitbull

Too bad there are no concerts now.  The Simon & Garfunkel Story, a Broadway Production will be here next January.

Saw "Get On Your Feet" a Broadway Musical Production about Gloria Estefan.  It was great.  Also saw "Beautiful:  A Carol King Musical".  Fantastic show.

Judy Collins' "Send In The Clowns"- love that song.

The only Bob Dylan song I liked is "Blowin' In The Wind".  One of the songs I learned to play on the guitar on.

I had to educated my way younger wife on music of the 60’s mainly Dylan and Sinatra she now loves his music as long as other people sign it , I think he is definitely the best song writer of the last 60 years. While we would love to see Carol King and Gloria Estefan we did see Glorias play on broadway once and Carol Kings great play 3 times only play I have seen more is Hair all three have amazing soundtracks . We do 70’s music charters for two reasons one is my wife grew up on that second is suites are always sold out on my 1960’s charters, I do love many  70’s artists like America ,Micheal McDonald ,Boz Scaggs and others on the cruises the one act I knew nothing about who was amazing was Todd Rundgren.

I think it is amazing the music knowledge on here and how many concerts people have been too.

Mine are.

Wishbone ash.

The Drifters

Led Zeppelin.

Westlife.

Meatloaf.

I was a records rep for EMI 1980-1983 but my music knowledge and experience is miniscule compared to a lot of you.

Great reading.

Graham.

Her voice is pure and clear.

Such a lady!

Dani, thank you so much and thank your husband for that romantic song.  Portofino is a definite on my bucket list.  Your post is very appropriate as we came home not long ago from dinner out at "North Italia." Wonderful food.    We all dug in before I could take food porn photos.  It was special having our daughter and friends with us.  I will try and send table pics with no food. lol

Happy belated Birthday!  Sounds like you a very nice day🤩

Speaking of Gloria Estefan, years ago the ice show on Explorer of the Sea had her song "Reach" as part of it toward the end. I still remember it all these years later being so up lifting.

Was drug testing mandatory  or could you refuse it ?

Our anesthesia group is contracted in.  We have to follow our corporations employee handbook as well as the hospital where we are employed. Too paraphrase some of the rules, I do not have either handbook readily available.

The hospitals states that random screening can and will occur at any time, and if you are selected you must go down to the on site lab and be screened before you leave work the day you are  notified.

In the event you opt to not report, then you can notify your immediate supervisor or the lab will report you as a no show and action will be taken leading to dismissal. This is not an option, this is a job requirement to work in our facility.

Over the years I heard about 5 nurses getting busted for having narcotics in their screening. The hospital pursued, found they were taken illegally and formal charges were taken.

3 of the nurses lost their RN license, and 2 went thru and successfully completed rehab and work in areas where narcotics are not administered.

Now, if you get caught, your insurance will get you through rehab, but, your employment ends.  In other works  "  See ya, dont let the door hit you in the butt"

So, better to not go to the dark side and do drugs.

Take care

Have seen Todd in various forms over the last 40+ years, and he can still sing pretty well, not that he was ever opera level, but he has kept his voice.  Last time we saw him was in a small venue in St Louis, and he covered of all people Loren Greene of Bonanza singing a hokey Cowboy song.  Truly one of the great minds in Rock n Roll.  His story about Daft Punk was one of the funniest I have ever heard.

What about Fleetwood Mac? wasn’t crazy about them back when they were a big thing, but I’ve come to appreciate them more lately.  Loved the book that was loosely based on Stevie Nicks, “Daisy Jones and the Six”.  Heard it’s being made into a movie - hope so.

They were the first concert I went to in high school. I think it was the Rumours tour in 1977. For me, the best live concert performers were Harry Chapin and Burton Cummings (The Guess Who). I only got to see Harry Chapin a couple of times before his untimely death,  but I've been to half a dozen (at least)  Burton Cummings concerts over the years. He is still a great performer.

Never saw anybody.   But Boston Pops is my favorite.

We attended a Boston Pops concert conducted by Arthur Fiedler at Van Cortlandt Park in The Bronx. The fireworks and boom when they played the 1812 Overture was something I will never forget.

He played with Dylan, and joined the noise.  I loved Dire Straits, Mark K on his own, meh....

I also like Dire Straits. Their song Romeo and Juliet is probably the one of theirs that I like best.
