I loved the chilled soups.  In the good old days you had a choice between a broth soup, a cream soup and a chilled soup each night.

It wasn’t that long ago that chilled soups were on the menu. I’d say three or four years ago.

Huh??  Where is this coming from???  When was the last time you were on HAL?

No smoking on balconies or on most areas of the ship other than one by the sea view pool and in a smoking section in the casino of some of the ships.

We were actually on the Nieuw Statendam 2019 Spring transatlantic cruise.  The smoke from the casino on deck three could easily be smelled in the music venues on deck two.  The current HA smoking policy also still allows the use of e-cigarettes in the cabins. This is ridiculous since there have been many reports of e-cigarettes exploding and causing fires.

I thought that e-cigarettes could NOT be used in cabins, that they were only permitted in the areas that regular cigarettes could be used.

Where did you see this policy?

The current HA document "2020 What you need to know before you go". On Page 15 is the smoking policy. It specifically says e-cigarettes are allowed in the cabins

Isn't that interesting?

I just checked on the website, under FAQ it states "electronic cigarettes are not permitted in staterooms".

I would like music to return to the Ocean Bar, from 4-6 pm and the again from 8-10 pm every evening/night.

Is someone collecting all these demands/asks of the new boss, but them in a nice orderly spreadsheet so the most asked for are ranked by choice? And then submitting them in certified mail to corporate?

Otherwise we are just venting on another CC thread.

Thanks, Stay Healthy & Sane,

Paul

Why end at 10? Contrary to what is posted often, not everyone retires to their cabin by 10:00 PM! Some of us are just finishing dinner then, and would like to have a bit of evening to relax and enjoy.
I agree there should be dance music, but how about let it run until at least 11:00? Midnight would be even better.

A VERY tiny expense but something I miss very much  "REAL newspapers delivered every port day to neptune cabins.  if they need to put out a coin box  to cover the small expense, I would be very pleased.  I do not always go ashore in every port nor pass a place to buy  uSA today or Intl  Herald that I enjoy reading. For years  and dozens upon dozens of HAL cruises  we always received  a news paper   on port  days  in  Neptune suites or "S" suites as they were called in the early days of "S and "R" class ships.

HAS a person to replace Mr. Ashford been named and I missed it?  Do you  think they will promote from withinCarnival Corp  or from within HAL  or  maybe hire from another cruise line  ?

Any guesses?

I started this topic. And yes it is my intention to make a document and sent it to the new CEO.

Bigger variety in ( affordable) shore excursions. We took AIDA once last year ( because HAL was not in Europe in February) , they have a lot more choice , much cheaper and well organized.
I would also like to see the return of the introduction of the officers on the second night.

A good clue as to why HAL was not there is:

February in Europe is off season, thus 'some'  lower pricing for your tours,

Has Carnival Corp announced that this position will be filled?   Perhaps a corporate re-org will result in a different managerial structure.

No they haven't.    As it stands there is already a lot of lateral integration between HAL, Princess, Seabourn, and Carnival Australia, so perhaps Jan Swartz ??     Scott.

You're both right.  It depends, in typical HAL fashion, on which page you look at.  I checked both and sure enough it's a direct contradiction.

That’s true , but when HAL did do the Canary Islands in december 2015 and in 2016 their tours were much more expensive. And for Europeans the Canary Islands are a popular destination in February,  not only by cruiseschip but also flights / hotels , so it’s not really off season.

From friends who did AIDA in season we saw the prices and possibilities of shore exs, again much more variety and lower than HAL.

Actually I closed the Tropic Bar on the ss Rotterdam. I was the last passenger ever out of the Tropic Bar on that Rotterdam. In those days it closed at 2:00 AM, after opening at 11:00.
I was the last passenger out of the Piano Bar on various HAL ships on 151 consecutive cruise nights. Then they started closing down earlier and earlier. It's as if HAL is forcing us to go to bed right after dinner.

There were also copies put in the library on  port days on the S and R class ships.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before or no. I loved the crew shows, haven't seen one in a coule of years. Also the good by in the showroom with members of all of the departments introduced and everyone singing Love In Any Language.

Regarding entertainment options for second seating diners, we have been "steerage" guests in recent years.

Yea I think the no music in the Ocean Bar, while there is still a piano there is on a lot of more "traditional" cruisers complaint list.

Maybe the new CEO will walk through a ship, when they get to the Ocean Bar they will ask "Oh so there's music at this venue too? Tour guide: "No we had to cut that out due to cost" New CEO "Then why didn't you sell the piano too?"

Love your post!  Some HAL executives "common sense" seems to have been lacking.  For some time, I will add.
