Did someone say The Beatles???? Yes I can hear you now.

A memory from World Cruise 2014 on board Crystal Serenity.50 years after The Beatles made their debut on the Ed Sullivan show as part of World Cruise 2014 Crystal Cruises brought on-board the Beatles Celebration Group. All four lads are from Liverpool, use the same types of instruments as The Beatles did and used the same tailor company to make their clothes as did The Beatles.

Two performances in the Galaxy Lounge and I remember how some guests (us too) danced in the aisles and then they performed at a mixer. This video is from the mixer.

It was cute how the Crystal Ensemble of Dancers and Singers came onto the dance floor in attire which went perfectly with the theme.

Following year they returned for World Cruise 2015 and this time the Galaxy Orchestra (aka Show Band worked with them ahead of time and the along with the string quartet performed some songs together. I'll post a few of them in the next few days.

Just as the Carnivals brought out the kid in most people the Beatles Celebration group did too.

Very nice.  I think we've had several Beatles groups on board since then and all very nice.  Ironically, we had Britain's Finest on Enchantment of the Seas just last night.  The ship was "rockin" just from the sea state but they handled it very nicely:

Roy that particular group they stayed with for several more cruises on both Serenity and Symphony but they have more than four members so sometimes you would have different ones.

They also were big on another cruise line who built the Cavern where they performed shows and the lines sold drinks.

Roy, I think you said 5 and up have to be vaxed on RCI, but I'm wondering if there is some percentage of the pax masking up indoors?

I'm a little unsure of the rules on vax.  I think (not sure) actually all adults must be vaxed and it;s only the kids who are allowed to be unvaxed but if any member of a family is not vaxed all in the party are subject to the same restrictions.

There are 2 or 3 classes of indoor spaces.  In vax required restaurants there is of course almost no masking.  I put on my mask between courses but very few others do.

In other rooms like the lower level of the showroom  and casino it's probably 30-40% masked (including me).

In non-food venues open to everybody (perhaps 1/3 of the venues) it's at least 99% masked.  Sorry to see that some cruise lines are dropping the mask requirement soon.

Roy, just caught up with your blog on Enchantment. It’s really nice to again follow your travels after a 2-yr pause. A nice sense of a “return to normal”!

Not quite normal but a big improvement.  Would I rather be on Crystal or Cunard or HAL.  Yup, but I have a favorite quote.  It sounds like Casey Stengel but it's actually Colonel Potter from MASH:  "If you aren't where you are, you're nowhere"

Well, because things seem to be winding down, and who knows how much time is left on the clock (side note, what is it with extra time in soccer (OK, football, sheesh), I mean, the match just ends?) anyway we made spaghetti tonight, so I thought I would come clean:

We add brown sugar to our Bolognese.  There, I said it. Don't knock it till you've tried...etc.

I will not, however, reveal whether or not there are beans in our chili.  I'm foolish, but not reckless.

Roy, that reminded me of a saying often said by my older brother who has worked and traveled in many countries for most of his adult life: "If you are going to be somewhere it might as well be here".  I've also adopted that attitude about most places I go!

Today's sunrise is once again today (on the way from Nassau to Charleston).  I had started breakfast in a sheltered area looking out a window, and when the sun found a break in the clouds I walked up the stairs to the open deck above.  I thought the deck level view from the midway landing on the stairs was a nice perspective:

First of all, there are a number of quotes floating around, all of which owe their provenance to the great Buckaroo Banzai and his immortal words:

"Remember, no matter where you go, there you are."

That's some real Zen right there.

It actually goes back to Thomas à Kempis, The Imitation of Christ, in the 1400s.

But thanks for making me look it up, because I always thought it was an AA saying.

Now, to get down to it (get down to it:)

I've had this movie rolling around my noggin for some time, so here it comes.  I've cast many of the regulars to this little backwater of a thread in a major Hollywood remake (or several.)  Apologies if I've left anyone out, let me know, it's an open call with plenty of rewrites.

First, the women's roles (this division will be come apparent, bear with me.)

MsKM: Hmmm, with her smarts, gotta be Linda Hunt as the principal in "Twins"

May B:  Well, she's so unfailing nice, she has to be Donna Reed as Mary Bailey in "It's a Wonderful Life"

Patty (AKA, Texas Tillie:) Well, um, not Donna Reed.  I'm thinking Liz Taylor in "Giant." Yeah, that's it

The boyz:

Everyone is in "The Great Escape" (Not great for women's roles.  Also, none of this will make sense if you haven't seen it)

Roland: Has to be a member of the Commonwealth.  I'll go with Ashley-Pitt "Dispersal." Side note, played by David McCallum, who went on to be Ilya Kuraykin in "The Man from UNCLE"

Roy: with his eye for the visual, could only be Blythe "The Forger" who made all the fake documents  and chased birds like our Roy chases sunrises/sets

Beav: The Independent, obviously The Cooler King "Hilts, just Hilts" Bonus points for being played by Steve McQueen, the GOAT of onscreen icy cool

Vince: This one's easy: Hendley "The Scrounger"  Need a camera with a focal plane shutter, or a sample of the carpet from deck six on Harmony?  Hendley's your man.  Rumor is he bears a striking resemblance to James Garner

Keith: Big X. The eXecutive, organizer, perpetual optimist.  No need to bring up how the movie ends

Fin (?)

PS: I get director and screenwriter credits above the title.  And a % of the gross.

I don’t think so! The only similarity I have with Elizabeth Taylor is my height - she was 5’2” and I was too at one time, now 5’1”. She had, what, 8 husbands, I’ve had none. And my eyes are a very dull hazel. Thanks for the thought, gave me a real chuckle!!

OK.  Where I live Mother Nature keeps changing us.

Warmer than normal weather and then an ice storm a couple of weeks ago.  Thankfully not the big freeze we had last February.

So yesterday, close to 80 degrees (F).  Nice.

So I decided let's smoke.  No not you know what.   I was not high the way you are thinking.  LOL.

We decided to use the Pellet Smoker again.  So far we've done hamburgers three times which is probably more beef than we have in one year.  OK, ready to try something simple but something different. So, yesterday with this balmy weather I smoked two nice fillets of Salmon and Fresh Asparagus for last night and this evening. It did take longer than I thought but no problem and it was not only tasty but very very (yes two very's) moist.

In time we will do chicken and a brisket.

Not sure about Turkey though. We like our Turkey large normally 25 lbs. but one time I did one close to 30 lbs. But as our son the chef tells us not for a smoker Dad because it would take way too long and too much risk for bacteria buildup so he says 20 lbs. max.  So we'll see.  But I still have my weber kettle grill whose primary use going forward will be to make turkey.

As to weather, today the high will be at sunrise and it will get colder with each passing hour until we get below freezing and tomorrow morning mixed precipitation is in the forecast and mixed is the possibility of ice.

Come on Mother Nature.  Normally we would be cruising now and likely in warm weather. Enough with this thing you call WINTER.  I am ready for SUMMER.  Well, SPRING would be OK but I like my SUMMER. LOL.

Hey Keith!! Care to trade winters???? For a little perspective, our next door neighbour, who is 5'10" tall, disappeared behind this while we were shovelling the other day!! And this is after two days of temps in the 10C/50 F range in the last week took about a foot off the top! Of course, what Mother Nature taketh away,  she giveth back! The forecast is for another 5 - 10 CM (2 - 4 inches) Thursday night to Friday! This being home all winter is for the birds!!😮😁
