We were the couple whose last name began with an "H." My wife would have the picture. I'll have to look for it. OMG!! That is sooo funny! We are the couple second from the left. Bucky standing behind me wearing white shirt and tie. (He did not bring sport coat or tux on that short cruise). BTW... Bucky is his nickname. Formal name is Allen. No, you don't understand. I did an 8 night solo in an ocean view. 16 points for about $100. Doing that, it would cost about $11,000 to make D+ I normally book GS. TWO cruises will be in the $11,000 range. I do 4 cruises, I have paid twice what you might have paid to make D+. And still would not be D. As a business, which customer do you want to pamper?????? If I were in charge, loyalty would either have a dollars spent component, or would be based solely on dollars spent. 2

Rare island lady Posted July 23, 2020 #283 Share Posted July 23, 2020 (edited) As in the car business. It's not the sale of the new car that the dealership is making money on...it's the "extras". Financing, extended warranty, warranty service work (big one), extra features, undercoat, clear coat...etc. In that frame of thinking...the cruise lines (IMHO) make their big profits on the "extras". Drinks and Drink packages, shore excursions, internet, laundry, specialty restaurants, Starbucks, spa treatments, gift shops, casino (big one there), etc...etc. So if you spend X amount for the fare on a just couple of cruises in a suite...versus same X of fare amount on numerous cruises in a cheaper cabin (more actual time on the ship).... which one is spending more on those extras? Ah, but consider there are things more important than $$$ spent. My experience is that those with D status and above are the best ambassadors for bringing in new business. They will share the great benefits and urge others (as I have done) to stick with Royal to gain the lounge experience and other benefits.

IMHO Agree the band "Jethro Tull" was good and Ian Anderson can still play the flute well. I believe Pat was referring to the homeless person Ian Anderson (lead singer and played the flute) was singing about in the song Aqualung. Not sure if he is a card carrying C&A member.🤣 Edited July 23, 2020 by davekathy

Excellent points. Some Suite customers might only cruise once in a lifetime or even given to them as a special gift. We are a captive audience on board and the more we cruise the more we spend on board.

I have some sympathy with suite guest beliefs about 'pampering' However it falls down on a number of issues 1. Most Diamond Plussers would have used all manner of different types of cabin. This presumption that we have only reached that level by using Inside cabins is nonsense. Yet man believe it to be so. 2. Most businesses require knowable cashflow figures - Loyal guests provide this. They build new ships based on these known figures. 3. It is not an either or, so there is no real reason to make it one.

M8 We know you do Rory and I'm sure Royal appreciate it but I would guess a lot of Suite passengers only cruise a few times and a lot of their budget has been taken up in the cost of their suite. If Royal get the right products at the right price in their shops they could sell a lot more merchandise.

M8 We would do well with that but obviously Royal don't think it would work or they would introduce it. 1 extra point for spending over $1000 per week during your cruise would be interesting. The sheer number of Diamond and higher loyalty shows they have it right with C&A to get points its only the points per tier has overwhelmed them as 80 points to make Diamond has shown. zekekelso Posted July 23, 2020 #299 Share Posted July 23, 2020 So, extra points for extra spending. Sounds good. I’d also like to see extra points for entertaining people with your impromptu band.
TYMAN Posted July 23, 2020 #300 Share Posted July 23, 2020 It's been a few years since we've been on a HAL ship (have a casino comp one next April), but they would give an extra point for each $300 spent on board. I would get three points just in my bar tab. lol!
