How does CC members plan to handle the new cruise line requirement to take shore excursions offered by the cruise line?

Recommended Posts

Doesnt bother me one bit. I already mostly take ship excursions. As a solo, it's often cheaper than booking a excursion by myself and it's more fun with others.

A few times I've done taxi around a island with a friend, or a roll call excursion, but excursions with the cruiseline already my main choice, so no for me.

MSC threw an entire family off their ship for breaking the 'bubble' rule. They booked an excursion but decided to go off on their own. MSC left them and their stuff on the pier as the ship sailed away.

There will be NO bypassing of these requirements.

Agree, but people will try - just like the ones who say they will avoid wearing a mask by having a drink in their hand at all times. People attempting to break the protocols is why I will avoid cruises until most of the restrictions are gone and the virus is under control.

If it is in the Caribbean, we will just stay onboard. Usually we like to get off and walk around, purchase trinkets. If that is not allowed, we won't. We have been to enough of the islands, that we don't need to purchase an excursion.

You took the words right out of my mouth.  I will happily stay on the ship at Caribbean ports

If you don't have a shore excursion ticket, they won't even "ding" you off the ship

Oh I understand that, but there will be some who will go ahead and make independent excursions and then when they can't get off the ruckus will start.

Ship booked shore excursions will reportedly have no direct contact with locals.  Curious then whether they will offer beach excursions and how they will enforce distancing.  Guess they could just restrict our beach time to Coco Cay and Labadee.

No change for us, we only take ships excursions anyway.  I honestly have enjoyed them all, just don't get the negativity.

This could be more fun than pier runners.

Let the games begin.

Some of us just want to get off of the ship and go where we want to go unescorted. If I was taking a land trip to the same port I would have that option.

No guarantees on that either. At least not right now. Things change daily.

I understand your concerns, but if these are the rules, we will have to comply.

Oh I think before that the threads will start that peoples ports got changed. Lots of fun complaints ahead I predict.

I typed "np" regarding cruiseline excursions.. my dumb spellcheck changed np to no :(

Ironically the only itinerary that appeals to me under these conditions is one that I would never do under normal circumstances which is Cape Liberty to Orlando, Nassau and Coco Cay. I would only get off the ship at Coco Cay.

That is the itinerary my husband dislikes the most!  We have Oasis booked for September and that is the itinerary, we will also just get off at Coco Cay, God willing🙏

Most likely people balking at the higher cost of the ship excursions.  We usually mix it up, sometimes ship excursion, sometimes go independent, other times just wander around on our own.

If getting off the ship requires booking an excursion thru Royal, that is probably the least bothersome of the new safety protocols for me. I usually have OBC to spend anyways. But I can see why it might be a deal breaker for those that like to explore on their own dime & time.

True, the  CDC organization only has jurisdiction in the U.S., but every country that has an equivalent to the  CDC tends to follow the recommendations from its member organizations.

From the CDC website: "CDC works in more than 60 countries, with staff from the U.S., but with even more staff from the respective countries to carry on the work, working with ministries of health and other partners on the front lines where outbreaks occur."

Well they did not follow the recommendations of Australian Government or the New Zealand Government 😇

I can't say what's going on in the rest of the world but I was in NYC today midtown and it was very depressing for this time of year. Aside from many businesses gone there wasn't any sign of the Holiday Season. Usually the stores and streets are decorated.  There was no Miracle on 34th street. Hardly any people on the street. This time of year you would be walking shoulder to shoulder. I considered going uptown to see the tree but I was so turned off that I just went to my appointment and went home.  The restaurants that are usually packed for lunch were empty. If this is what the City that doesn't sleep looks like I can't imagine what an island in the Caribbean must be like.

That's a big nope.  The people in the cruise ports are hurting, and now we have the cruise lines being the kingmakers?  I think the smaller islands will have their acts together and welcome cruisers openly.  I out on the bubble idea as we've been living that for months.

As my husband's mobility issues have become more restrictive we have found the ship excursions are easier for us.  We used to be the first ones off the ship and the last ones on, but unfortunately that just isn't possible anymore.
