jskinsd Posted March 21, 2021 #1 Share Posted March 21, 2021 This is probably my main concern. I just got back from Las Vegas and although most people used elevator courtesy a lot of just didn't care. Especially parties of four or more. My knees do not work well. I do not do stairs. I usually cruise solo. It only takes one sneeze or a cough. Masks or no masks. Shot or no shot. And what about norovirus concern. Is there a shot for that? Tight quarters. Always room for one more to squeeze in. Then two. Maybe a family. We know there are never any rude cruisers when it comes to the elevators. So what will happen. Elevator monitors like embarkation days? Solo only elevators? Make an appointment? Just wondering which agency or who will make the final call on proper elevator etiquette when cruising?✌️

Quick next floor and wait.✌️ While I appreciate the concern, there are those of us who still have to go into an office every day and ride [sometimes crowded] elevators every day. And travel by air a few times a month. We have also gone on short vacations a half dozen times since the "reopening" using elevators to go between our rooms, restaurants, and entertainment (sounds like a cruise ship). If you are not ready to join that environment, then don't book a cruise right now. Don't book a flight right now. Yes, I wear a N95 mask while on public transportation, at all times while on vacation, and while in public places (grocery stores, etc.). And I wear a KN95 mask all day in the office. I observe physical distancing (even if others don't).

Especially if you're wearing a mask. (I can't see the point of any restrictions with mandatory vaccination/testing.) But, if you don't feel safe, then you'll have a very long wait if you want to cruise. Way back, maybe last June...I questioned exactly how the cruise ships would handle elevators since a large per centage of the passengers can't walk the stairs. Nobody responded. Nobody can figure it out now because people will always be squeezing in. And like "the chair hog situation"....the staff won't do a thing.

Masks also protect others, probably more than they protect the person wearing them.

Once again what agency will make the call worldwide or will it be based on the cruise line✌️

Some will still get sick, just maybe not as sick. And it is believed that those with shots may still be carriers. Hence the oft repeated "masks protect others more than they protect you"
Trimone Posted March 21, 2021 #13 Share Posted March 21, 2021 It’s up to the cruise company to set their own rules once they have complied, even if they are allowed to sail without masks there's nothing stopping them telling the customers to wear them. When we opened after the first lockdown face masks were not required by customers, however we insisted they wore them for staff safety.
casofilia Posted March 21, 2021 #14 Share Posted March 21, 2021 @jskinsd And what about norovirus concern. Is there a shot for that? We were on a ship where Noro hit. Nothing offered to those that weren't affected. BUT the crew were marvelous in what they suggested and did. Felt very safe as we carried out fully all that was suggested as did almost everyone.

CruiseMH Posted March 21, 2021 #16 Share Posted March 21, 2021 1 hour ago, jskinsd said: Once again what agency will make the call worldwide or will it be based on the cruise line✌️ No agency will take care at all. If you don`t feel well if anybody sneezes or coughs in the same elevator as you then you should stay at home for the rest of your life. If you leave your house then the danger starts. And when cruising restarts then there will be only people on board which either are vaccinated, testes negative several times or even both. So the chances of anybody having covid-19 are close to zero. So,even if they stand next to you for 2 minutes in the elevator(which is also part of the air ventilation system with all the filters) absolutely nothing will happen. Absolutely nothing. Especially if all are wearing masks.(and you can be sure that masks will be mandatory until at least Beginning of 2022. TUI cruises in germany does cruising already since July 2020 and they did not have any problems at all. (yes, they had 4 cases on one of their cruises but due to immedaite contact isolation the virus did not spread around). SO this clearly shows that it works. Rare All-ready2cruise Posted March 22, 2021 #18 Share Posted March 22, 2021 @hamrag I totally agree. I climb up to 6 flights of stairs and continue to do so in my condo building. IMO, those of us who can climb the stairs enables those who can't the freedom to use the elevators whenever needed. I do it on cruise ships as well, as it just gives me more freedom to get to where I want to go more easily.
casofilia Posted March 22, 2021 #19 Share Posted March 22, 2021 @hamrag & @All-ready2cruise I would love to be able to join you in all those stairs but my knees won't allow me to do that number repeatedly; two flights up or three flights down at any one time!!! Actually, Mike, your limits are exactly what my Doctor recommended to someone my age (very close to yours BTW) but, I continue to do it so that some of those more senior than myself have better access to the elevators in my condo building. I know that at some point I will be in need of your same restrictions. I'm happy you continue enjoying your cruises. To heck with the stairs... just enjoy the motion of the ocean. Ka Kite Ane Mike Well, I can only dream of having 11 cruises booked but I wish you and yours all the best. In Canada, we've just begun to administer vaccines so I'm hoping to have mine by my birthday... summer coming up. Come 'er a how buy... ( how are you friend) East coast Canada. casofilia Posted March 22, 2021 #23 Share Posted March 22, 2021 @All-ready2cruise We are as well as can be expected for 76+!! We hope you are "up to scratch" too. Don't mention "vaccination" to a New Zealander, especially if you have already had yours!!! We are so slow getting round to doing it!!! We "expect" ours, due to our age, sometime after May. They are doing border staff at a phenomenal rate; well about 100 a day!!!
Rare All-ready2cruise Posted March 22, 2021 #24 Share Posted March 22, 2021 Yeah, I hear you... some areas just seem to be moving so quickly and then there is us.... Canada... New Zealand... etc... IMO, we've been too patient. But, we will survive, we will beat this beast, we will cruise again. I had to cancel my cruise to Australia and New Zealand last year... it's still on my bucket list. Having to cruise as a solo now though it's a bit of a challenge. I'll beat that too. Take care, all the best. Cheers. Connie
casofilia Posted March 22, 2021 #25 Share Posted March 22, 2021 @All-ready2cruise Hello Connie 4 of our booked cruises are "home grown"!!! NCL in December from Singapore to Sydney to Auckland; can't see that one going. Then, in February, Princess from Sydney to New Zealand return and then back to New Zealand which we have more chance of doing. The last bit is almost cheaper than a hotel in Sydney and flying back!!
