Looks like the numbers proved otherwise as they abandoned the test. cruises from other countries are also smoke free, Australia for one d so they do have the data to base their decisions on. I was on one of those test cruises. They tried no smoking in the Casino on Enchantment. It was great for us. The issue was, it was not advertised as non smoking. Only the smokers that attempted to play found out. I spoke with others on the 4 night cruise that were non smokers and expressed had the known, they would have played. The smokers where upset who booked the cruise as they were not told it would be a test cruise. Typical of Royal, a total flop. On that year’s Presidents Cruise, they said they did test and lost 30% revenue. It was for only a few 3/4 night cruises on Enchantment. M8

It will likely be based on health and safety protocols. I wouldn't be surprised if it has an added benefit of increased revenue if more people who didn't go to the casino before show up due to not having to smell smoke and can now use the machines where the smokers were planted. If masks are required indoors, I don't see how smoking could be allowed in an indoor casino. My son and I go over to the casinos in Mississippi, masks are required but you can take them down to smoke at a machine. Just like being able to eat or drink and take your mask down. Is there a smoking and non-smoking section? They have some of the machines shut down to distance people. It isn't any different then going to a restaurant and taking your mask off to eat or drink or getting on an airplane and taking your mask down to eat, drink or read a book. I think one side of the room may be non-smoking but I haven't really noticed. I don't smoke but it doesn't bother me if other people do unless there is no ventilation. The casinos have very good ventilation systems.

Auntiemomo Posted March 22, 2021 #33 Share Posted March 22, 2021 I see people sitting at a slot machine smoking and reading a book so they didn't have to go outside to smoke. This is a great time to extinguish all inside smoking -- blame it on covid.

davekathy Posted March 22, 2021 #35 Share Posted March 22, 2021 Whether you can smell the stench or not wearing a mask your clothes and hair will reek of the stench. Agree with others that RC needs to take Celebrity's lead banning all inside smoking. 5
neverbeenhere Posted March 22, 2021 #36 Share Posted March 22, 2021 I'm guessing it's up to us non-smokers to drop a few thousand on any non-smoking nights in the casino to show Royal that a smoke-free casino will pay off on their ships.
Auntiemomo Posted March 22, 2021 #37 Share Posted March 22, 2021 Smokers will adapt when they stop smoking in the casino, just like they did when all the bars and restaurants stopped smoking. They just went outside. 2

I am far from being perfect, but what I do doesn't affect other people's health, like forcing people to smell secondary smoke. The number of smokers has been drastically declining since the past few years now that more is known about the effects smoking has on smokers as well as people to that subjected to secondary smoke, especially in the CV19 world we are in now. 5 1

Rare livingonthebeach Posted March 22, 2021 #41 Share Posted March 22, 2021 With about 16 million Americans living with smoking related diseases and tobacco use killing an estimated 500,000 in 2020, about the same number as Covid, the probability that the number of people who continue to smoke will soon dwindle down is very likely. 1
Milwaukee Eight Posted March 22, 2021 #42 Share Posted March 22, 2021 I don’t know about you, but I seem to sense a trend in the smoking threads. Seems to me there are fewer pro smoking indoors comments. I wonder if Covid pushed it this way. M8

The fact that smoking killed about as many people as Covid-19 in one year makes me wonder if it shouldn't be considered a pandemic as well.
Rare Von & John Posted March 22, 2021 #44 Share Posted March 22, 2021 As a non-smoker, I experience breathing impacts when around smoke. However, I believe I have much more empathy for the smokers than many others. My parents were both chain smokers. My father was able to successfully quit, when I was an adult. However, I watched my mother struggle trying to quit, my entire life, until it took her from us. At that point she was down to two cigarettes a day - but could not entirely give it up. Since I do not know what struggles someone may be going through, I generally opt to walk the other way if I see smokers grouped together.

I've lost family members to smoking as well and can sympathize. The problem in the casino is that if you want to play in the non-smoking section, there is no separation or divider between the smoking and non-smoking sections so all the smoke goes over and permeates the non-smoking section. If you just walk the other way you can not enjoy an activity you would otherwise partake in without having to inhale the smoke of others. This creates a situation that is unfair to the non-smokers which represents a much larger number of people.

goldfish65 Posted March 22, 2021 #48 Share Posted March 22, 2021 Casinos not my cup of tea so I don't care. It does seem like cigarette smoke today smells worse than years ago, maybe from the additives they put in them, or because our noses aren't conditioned to them anymore, or both. As long as I can avoid smoke and keep it off my clothes, I am sympathetic to smokers, I used to be one, kinda miss it sometimes. Maybe offer some sailings with smoking allowed in the casino, and others not.
HicksRA Posted March 22, 2021 #49 Share Posted March 22, 2021 You can’t smoke in church, you can’t smoke in malls, you can’t smoke in restaurants, you can’t smoke in theaters, you can’t smoke in most amusement parks, you can’t smoke in offices or at work,. A lot of smokers don’t even smoke inside their own home. So why can people smoke in casinos? They say it’s because a lot of smokers have a propensity to gamble and it enhances their spending. Smokers still go to church, malls, restaurants, theaters, amusement parks, offices and to work. So where’s the reasoning that smokers won’t gamble in casinos if they can’t smoke there?? 5
