Price Increase

Got an email saying prices are going up July 1st for all 21,22 and 23 cruises. My TA told me the same thing a few weeks ago when we had planned to book a cruise with Oceania. If your going to book do it before July 1

Everyone on the mailing list gets those emails from O as well as the “holiday sale” ones. Among them are the occasional 10% discount for certain cruises once you’re in the O Club (which only takes having done one O cruise).

The best of the emails are the ones you’ll occasionally get from an O preferred TA when it’s their turn in the rotation for an O “quiet sale.”

Then watch for the sale after the price increase.

Typical cruise BS.  All cruise lines are stating the same thing.

Pre covid  I would  agree with you  but Post covid  may be a different story  with lines trying to make some $$$  & people with FCC's  trying to use them  up   we may or may not see the big sales like in the past

Bookings are going thru the roof. Their is no reason for them to drop prices

Supply and demand will determine prices. Announcing a price increase may persuade some people to book now.  It is a way of pushing undecided to make a decision.  Since deposits are usually refundable, some people may be persuaded to make a booking.  Previous to pandemic, a future booking got people excited thinking about the future cruise.  The pandemic stopped the joy of that process.  Having booked, canceled, rebooked, etc. too many times, not getting excited anymore. The thrill got lost. I hope that eventually it will return. Many people are using fcc to book.  As we get closer to expiration dates, they will book some cruise.  Since Oceania has yet to really sail again, we wait anxiously and hope that all goes well when they do sail.  When cruising returns to normal and pandemic fcc is gone, prices will change.

Fares will change, Laszlo.

They'll change at Corporate for reasons they can't even fathom. They'll change on the web site, not knowing for sure why they're going up or down. They'll arrive in your inbox, as innocent as spam, longing to be read.

"Of course, you won't mind if fares change," you'll say. "It's only $100* dollars per person." You'll pass over the money without even thinking about it. For it is money you have and peace you lack.

[ Laszlo, just sign the papers.]

And you'll walk out on the pier, and sit in shirt-sleeves on a perfect afternoon. You'll find you have a reserved cabin somewhere along your favorite deck, where you stayed when you were younger and cheered for great cuisine. And you'll sail the seas, and it'll be as if you dipped yourself in magic waters. The memories will be so thick, you'll have to brush them away from your face.

[Laszlo, when the bank opens in the morning, they'll foreclose.]

Fares will change, Laszlo.

[You're broke,  Laszlo. You sell now or you lose everything.]

The one constant through all the years, Laszlo, has been cruising. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It's been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt, and erased again. But cruising has marked the time. This line, this ship, it's a part of our past, Laszlo. It reminds us of all that once was good, and it could be again.

Ohhhhhhhh, fares will change, Laszlo. Fares will most definitely change.

====

* or $200 or $300, or $400.

Not all fares will change. Historically, they are based on what is selling and what is not selling. There will be plenty of increased fares, but there may also be some decreased fares. (I think fares will be mostly higher this time, though, because there is so much demand and future cruise credit out there.) And it will be mostly near-term fares that will change. Sailings far in the future tend to stay the same.

I too have seen Field of Dreams. 🙂

Oceania are well aware there will be very good demand for new revised Nautica and Regatta itineraries for late 2021 / early 2022 which  should be released soon.

Increased prices are to be expected and a smart move.

Note: Regatta late 2021 / early 2022 not yet cancelled, but those can't be far away from being announced.

Paul ordinarily Id say you are correct but this time I dont see them reducing many prices or having a sale in the near future..if they do you can usually get the lower price..

I know the drill.   But lets see when I received the "4th of July sale" email or the "4 cabin Upgrade Sale" on Labor Day   🙂

I did take a screen shot of the current prices  of my two cruises booked to see how they compare on the 1st.

To me, the biggest problem I have is getting the exact cabin I want on the itinerary that I want.  Too many times, I have waited for the price to drop only to find that all of the cabins I like are gone.  Therefore, now I always book the cruise as soon as possible not really caring about today's price (unless it's totally out of wack).

Why, you ask?  Am I rich?  Nope.  I do this because I can always rebook should the price go down prior to final payment, get the better price or ship board benefits, and keep my coveted cabin.  The end result for me is the best cabin at the best price.  Isn't that the result we all want?

(Caveat - Always read the fine print of your booking code to ensure that you' re not locked down on your price!)

Thanks for the reminder, Laszlo. Called first thing this morning to book my Sirena cancellation replacement cruise on Riviera for next year. My cruise specialist said her phone was ringing off the hook before she even got in this morning - and the last remaining PH2 I wanted to book was snagged by someone else while we were talking. As always, I'll keep an eye out for price drops, but I think it's highly unlikely.

FYI, this is what I found today:

Marina: 48 trips followed, 46 with fare changes, all had higher fares compared to June 1 from 1.3% to 6% (mostly below 3%). However, 12 trips still have lower fares from their original fares. These stats are based on a Cat B1.

Riviera: 50 trips followed, 46 with fare changes, all had higher fares compared to June 1 from 1.0% to 6.6% (mostly below 3%). However, 10 trips still have lower fares from their original fares. Again, these stats are based on a Cat B1.

Sorry, I don't keep track of R-ships, but I would expect their trend to be similar.

I cannot fathom how anyone could see this as unreasonable.

I can not really get good info as I could only access about four months in 2022 to view cruises. I could not get into 2021 or 2023 itineraries and that was at 10:00 EST. I did see several itineraries that we or friends were booked on and did not see much of a bump, maybe $100 here and there if that category was available, no bump if Waitlisted.

What did anyone else see because I see nothing to get too excited about?

Checked my bookings --  all had a $100 pp increase in Cruise only fares.  There was no rush to book cabins as none of the open cabins changed status to waitlist.   Only waitlists are B4, C F G plus OC, VS OS.  We got last OC's in April.

My February Riviera cruise went down $200 pp (B1 category). I only booked it about a month ago.

I looked it up today so I could feel sooo good about my lower fare..... not so much. 😞

Your TA should be able to get that adjusted for you.

How's this for unreasonable:

April 4, 2022 11 night Riviera. I booked June 30 in outside cat C for $2899 pp cruise only. On O web site they are selling it for $4199 cruise only. The online TA's show it as $2899. Why would anyone book direct with Oceania and pay 30% more?

I believe you read it incorrectly - I just checked on line and it shows $4199.00 Olife fare with air and $2899.00 for cruise only....

 - Deluxe Ocean View $10,198 $4,199 $2,899

I tried to go through the booking process and it may read $2899 cruise only on the price page but that does not come up when I tried to do a dummy booking. Perhaps the online booking is being glitchy.

That is so evocative.  I can't wait to get back on the ocean.

Is there any chance you will revive your amazing site that "compares fares"🙂

The online booking never lets you book cruise only but gives you the price.....it does allow you to check no air so your booking will show the price of the cruise with no air but Olife.....we check the website to get an idea of pricing and then let our TA book everything - easy peasy.

It has been like this for years so not glitchy
