What does that mean? Do you go to a restaurant order then bus your own table?  It’s their job!!! This is why we tip. Its a service job.

They are gratuities and on a daily basis not a per service basis. Some cruise lines do add a service charge and I suppose someday it could become ala carte so some could really complain.

The way you help the room stewards is not being a sloppy pig. I've seen some cabins walking by when a door is open, and some of you folks are nasty.

I've seen some cabins  in passing and it looked like an episode of Hoarders.  Yes,  Nasty!

When we traveled with our (then) high school aged son and his friends, it was always a challenge getting their cabin to the point of "ready to be serviced". First, you had to have a clear path/floor. We ALWAYS had a nice talk with their cabin steward on the first day. Additional "thanks" were always factored in.

I HEAR you, I have seen some rooms walking by that looked like a bomb went off!  I can't even imagine how the room steward can clean in there with so much crap all over the place!

Worst part is, these are probably the ones that are down at guest services having a fit about the gratuities that were added to their bill getting them taken off.

I can't count how many times I have over heard these conversations and people demanding they remove them because they didn't authorize it!

You know a lot of the same people are asking why kids are charged gratuities.

I have a feeling this isn't driven by anything other than the logistics. The enhanced cleaning protocols that are required make cleaning each room take longer. There is limited space to house staff on a cruise ship so bringing on extra stewards to help with the extra cleaning isn't an option.

Carnival stated back in June that while they are allowed to sail at full capacity they are starting at lower passenger levels to see just how well their staff can adjust to returning to sailing. Let's give them time to adjust, these stewards are going to be heavily burdened with the new requirements.

Hotels do housekeeping once a day so that's what I mean not sure how you don't understand I don't like over working these people who are over worked.

I put my plate and forks make sure it's organized but maybe because my house isn't dirty so I make sure when I'm out in public after eating my table isn't a mess and my room isn't a mess. I feel it's a reflection of my home and we'll it's clean.

Good luck getting twice a day full service.  The pandemic has changed cruising.  If you cruise with the expectation that everything will be the same as pre-pandemic, you will be surprised and likely disappointed at some things.

And if that is the case, they shouldn't be disappointed with receiving lowers tips for less work per cabin. It really is a two way street.

They have every right to be disappointed. Carnival's recommended gratuities PER DAY, not per service, have not changed. This is one reason why the gratuities should be mandatory.

But mandatory reduces incentive for the workers to go above and beyond. They already know what they will receive, and cheap people won't add a penny more.

Never tipped a cocktail waitress before your drink in order to get it faster?

Ever tip a maitre d for a better, quieter table?

Tip a doorman to get into a club or show?

Took better care of a bartender because they "took care of you?"

Absolutely my friend!! Tipping seems like something of the past! I remember an old Matre de who taught my husband how to tip when he was 21. For ALL of the reason's above! It is amazing to see him as the OLD guy now teaching younger's how to get better tables, stronger drinks, or the doorman at a show!

Thank you for your statement. I LOVE it!

Also, I was in the service industry for 30 years. When you could send your husband and 2 (of 4) kids to college on food service, cocktail waitressing, and bartending. When hospitality WAS a career choice.

Well, now I can speak from experience.

This topic is not correct.  It should cabin service.  I mean clean once a day and service the room with towels, ice, and turn down down the bed late.

so we chose late.
the wife likes to sleep in while I’m on the deck by 6:30 having coffee and quiet time before the crowd.

how was my experience compared the the other cruises.
towels - got her to give us 4.
she learned or knew of our plans when ashore. So that worked out. Clean while gone more midday.

ice only a bit but have tried.

we can not rate her as carnival is Ofer working the staff and doing with less due to $$$ imo.
when nit doing the Roma they have them scrubbing the walls and rails all the hallways

learning that many in this cruise were comp from the casino. We were paying customers

nonetheless, not up to pre Covid standard Carnival Serivce.

I haven’t even begun on the QR or lack of fun times - I’m high tech but this has got to change

you’ll need a portable battery and cord with your phone to survive. Freaking SUCKS!

Can you please elaborate on what you mean about the phone to survive? What did you need to do with the phone more than on other cruises. We normally put the phone in the safe as soon as we check into our cabin and don't take it out until checking our airline reservations, etc, about the last day of the cruise.

I'm assuming he's talking about the fact that all menus are on a QR system - likely you've seen that in your local restaurants where you scan a code and the menu loads onto your phone. This applies for all bars and dining rooms (paper menus only upon request). Also, no Fun Times delivered to your room daily - activities all listed on the HUB app that you download and access for free (no wi-fi needed). A one sheet activity list can be found at certain locations during the day.

Yuck, that does indeed suck, but is not totally unexpected. I guess we will have to get that one sheet activity listing, hopefully as we return to our stateroom for the evening. It's sort of a tradition that we briefly read it over just before lights out, then study it the next morning and mark interesting items. I do not care for those QR things AT ALL! I will be requesting a "real" menu in the MDR. And I imagine I am not in the minority among my age group at least!😎 I guess the kids will all enjoy having all that on their phone. I'm no kid.....and that's for sure!

I'm with you. One of the big advantages to me for cruising is not needing the phone. I do check it a few times a day but would much rather not carry it around.

Still, all things considered, it's a minor inconvenience compared to not being able to cruise at all.

Yes, we need to not lose sight of what's most important.

I'm at the pinnacle of technology now.  I just upgraded from a 3G to a 4G flip phone.  🙂

I only did that because AT&T sent me a free one without me asking!

I never use the QR thing either, it surprises people when I go to order at a restaurant that I need a paper menu.   My cell phone does not have data enabled so does not have the capacity to use QR codes.
