Is all obc use it or lose it, or can some or all be returned to a credit card if not used onboard?

It depends on the type of OBC. If it is the result of a price adjustment after final payment under CWC, the terms and conditions say it's non-refundable so in that case the use it or lose it scenario does apply.

Are you saying it can't be cashed out through the casino? I thought it could.

They can create a cash account on board and then take it out in the casino without the surcharge.

Please explain.  I am going to cash mine out in the casino and expect to pay the 3% fee.  If there is a way to do it without paying the fee, please tell me.  My onboard account is on my credit card and that I am not going to change.

You have to set your account up as a cash account, since you have the cc attached you can't do it.  I normally set it up as a cash account take any OBC that I won't use to grats, excursions, spa etc out of the casino and then before the end of the cruise switch over to the credit card I use.

Can you elaborate on creating a cash account?

When setting up check in, it asks you to put a credit card in, you can bypass this step and set up a cash account.  Then when on the cruise you can switch over to a credit card.  This was pre covid though, so not sure if they are still doing cash accounts or trying to do cashless accounts via debit or credit card.  I suppose if you have already set up the credit card you could go back and say you wanted a cash account.

No, I didn't mean that; sorry to have caused confusion. It can be cashed out but what I meant was that if there's any of it left at the end of the cruise that hasn't been either spent or cashed out, it goes back into Royal's pocket.

If it’s refundable OBC (normally from TA) you can get it refunded to card. If it’s from Royal it is non refundable & must be used either prior to sailing (shore excursions, beverage packages, dining packages etc) or on board)

When I did my check in for my Sept 10 Freedom cruise, it did not let me bypass the credit card page without putting in a credit card.  I wonder if I can ask for it to be converted to a cash account at boarding?  Doesn't hurt to ask.

OK, always use a credit card.  I will pay the 3% fee to take it out of the casino.

Hmmm...That might be new...before covid you always had the choice to set it up as cash.

So are you saying my RCI OBC can't be used to cash out in the casino?

If I don't add pre paid gratuities I can use it to pay those once onboard?

This thread has me thoroughly confused now. I have over $1000 in nonrefundable OBC, as do my travel mates. I thought cashing out through a slot machine sounded relatively straightforward. Do I need to remove my credit card from my account in order to do that?

I'm guessing a lot of people on my cruise are faced with a similar pile of OBC. Is the casino prepared for that much cash out? Are there limits?

I booked through a travel agent. Can I call Royal directly and cancel and immediately rebook our excursions using this OBC? I really don't want to go through the agent. I was planning to just pay gratuities and incidentals and take the remaining cash from the casino.

You should be able to cash out through a slot machine with no problem.  The suggestion to set up a cash account and take out cash in the casino that way was what you had to do before you could connect a slot machine to your on-board account.

The casino has more cash on hand than you could possibly imagine.  If people can win $5K on a slot machine, you can certainly cash out $1K.

I'm not sure I understand this question.  Excursions are booked through the Cruise Planner via Royal's website, that has nothing to do with whether you used a travel agent or not.  If you already booked excursions that you paid for with a credit card, you can log into the Cruise Planner and cancel those excursions (which will be refunded to the credit card you charged them to) and then rebook them using the OBC that shows on your account.  Just make sure the OBC is showing on your Cruise Planner before you start the process.

Thank you. Yes, I wondering if I should cancel and rebook to just get the cash back before I get on the ship but I'd rather keep the points earned from that. Yes, it took awhile but the credit is sitting in my cruise planner.

The price and availability of your excursions might have changed.  There might be a daily limit on how much you can take out at the slot machines.  You might have to do it over a couple of days  I just did this on the Mariner last week.  I had a cc tied to my account.  That makes no difference.
