Smoking allowed in casinos

So the original complaint is that the casino is an area where people can go light their cigarettes with a fire source, preferably a small self contained one. The cigarette will continue to burn as long as the person puts it to their lips and inhales. 

 

Now on the flowrider, as you should know, there is a MASSIVE amount of water flowing. *Maybe where it got its name). To ride the flowrider requires a great deal of balance, something you might have since you proclaim to ride it for years. Probably, but I'm no expert, a place where the rider would fail to shield a lit cigarette from becoming soaked with the dread H2O. I'm not expert grant you but I have ridden the flowrider and watched it.

So then you have someone sucking the vapor laced with nicotine and who knows what addition toxic poisons to travel through their mouth, nose, throat, lungs, Etc. while picking up any phlegm,  mucus, saliva, bacteria, viruses, Etc., then back out through the same passages picking up more of this same garbage.  This mixture is them exhaled where you can watch it float in the air, getting onto your skin, in your nose, mouth and lungs, along with all those chemicals, bacteria, viruses,germs,and other nasty stuff.  Doesn't really sound like it solves the problem at all.

Getting back to smoking allowed in casinos during COVID - a bad idea. It wasn’t a good idea pre-pandemic and it certainly isn’t a good idea now. Don’t understand why RCI didn’t change their indoor smoking policy while they had the chance during lockdown.

 

The argument that International passengers smoke more and generate more revenue than Americans who make up the bulk of cruising worldwide is highly debatable. The pandemic is Global and the fact that it manifests by attacking the lungs should be well noted and smoking policies adjusted accordingly.

It's really easy. The rules are not changing. Stay out of the casino. Your problem is solved.

 

Been on three cruises since restart. Been to Vegas (with lots of smoke). No rules are changing.

80% of all people who died from Covid were obese. The cruise line still has MANY obese passengers on board. Should they ban the buffet because unlimited food is killing these cruisers more than second hand smoke? Non smoker here.

I'm a non smoker but I support Royal's position to allow smoking in their casinos. On our last Royal cruise Mrs. Dawg and I avoided the casino like the plague as we both hate the smoke. Then we went on a Celebrity cruise and after Mrs. Dawg found their non smoking casino I had to take out a second mortgage on the house!  😱

I'll bet RC will disagree with you on that suggestion.

 

For us staying out of the casino isn't a big deal as we do just that. Not gamblers. Obviously others that don't smoke and like to gamble feel differently and possibly even some smokers.  But the problem of the stench isn't solved until RC improves their ventilation system to keep the stench from going into the other surrounding venues. Smokers will not realize how bad the stench is until they stop smoking. Speaking from personal experience.

Former smoker here, now I vape.  I wish they would allow vaping in rooms and balcony.  It does not leave a smell.  I don't do the "big clouds".   I cut down on my nicotine level from 24 to 4, next step is zero.  I actually hate the smell of smoke now, and chose to only vape in the outdoor areas, the casino is too smokey for me, so I only go to gamble for a little bit, or in more ventilated areas.  I think if I didn't vape, I would not enjoy going into the casino at all.

Glad RC doesn't allow it as it should be. Vapers shouldn't be treated any differently than a smoker, no matter what they smoke.

Wayne_trisha: Strange that you are so vehemently defending a post which wasn't yours.
I think that zekekelso incorrectly thought that we smoked, therefore his post made no sense, and was not appropriate  to my response regarding that we (non smokers) mainly cruise for the Flowrider.

Even though sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, we all use it, and I do appreciate it in the right context. This was not the right context. it was completely misplaced.
It is totally obvious that smoking is not allowed when actually on the water.

The big difference is other people's eating habits don't affect me, second hand smoke in the casino does.  If I want to stay and gamble for a few hours that's a few hours of inhaling a toxic substance that adversely impacts my health.  Over the years many casinos have changed their smoking policies and converted to strictly non smoking.  As the smoking population decreases RCI might follow Celebrity's cue -- I sure hope they do!

Many gaming venues have reopened smoke free to mitigate the risks involved with CV19 complications due to smoking. Just in Florida alone, these venues have switched to non smoking:

My problem is not solved.  I should be able to enjoy the casino for as long as I want without being exposed to secondary smoke, which creates respiratory risk factors.  As it stands now I can only tolerate being in the Casino for a few minutes max.  Pleasing a small percentage of cruise passengers to the detriment of the large majority does not make good and sound business sense, IMO.

Yes ventilation is important and perhaps a separate room for gamblers who smoke should be considered.  I did notice that the Casino on Freedom last month was less smoky than usual compared to pre-pandemic times.  I don't know if it was because of less people or better ventilation or both.  Even then I could not stay longer than a few minutes.  I'm sure I'm not alone in stating that I would stay longer and spend more money if the RCI Casinos were smoke free.

Yes all non smokers say that but at the end of the day Royal knows that smokers are the one who drop real money in their casinos.

Solution:

Darth Vader mask or nasal cannulas connected to a small smoke generator.  Pump that smoke directly in to the face mask or nose of the addict.  The rest of us won't be affected.  Another benefit is they can "smoke" all over the ship.  Whenever they start scratching like a junkie needing a fix, they can quickly get their poison and the rest of us won't be bothered.

When sailing in Australia the casino is smoke free, as are all indoor spaces in the entire country. The casino was never short of guests, the same as casinos throughout Australia. 
 

We have just come off Harmony in Europe, where a high proportion of people smoke, and the casino was nonetheless smoke free. Also still always busy.
