Celebrity Equinox in Barbados,passenger over 3 hours late!

Captain announced at 11 that passenger was safe but would not rejoin cruise.  We departed around 11:30.  No official details given, but lots of gossip 😉

Depending upon which third- or tenth-hand version of events you choose to believe. Pretty harsh as we still don't have any idea what actually happened.

Hmmmmm, sounds more like the first officer story most closely mirrors what happened. I wonder what her intention was. Regardless, I hope she’s safe!

What a nightmare. Do we know if it was a Celebrity excursion? Do Celebrity allow passengers on the “port authorised taxi trips” to the 3 authorised beaches? I know it mentions it on the Barbados port website and other cruise lines allow it also in addition to bubbled excursions.

Not to hijack, these thread hope all is well , We are doing 12 day on Equinox on the 28 , it it possible they will miss Grenada ? We have not heard anything yet . Thanks for any info.

It does appear that she left the ship by choice and had checked into a hotel.

 

It’s very possible that you will skip Grenada.  We did not get notice until embarkation morning that we would be missing that port. Nothing ahead of the cruise.

Probably freaked out when she discovered that Always Included did not provide unlimited massages in the spa.

Some say that she is still on the ship to this day.  Late at night, you can see her ghostly image in the hallways.

They will do their best to wait but when that's not feasible they will cover your travel costs until you're back on the ship.  Unexpected fog/weather is the most common reason a ship won't wait and may occasionally even leave a port early.

I've always wondered, can the captain make the decision to stay longer or is it really corporate calling the shots?

I think it is very possible.  Celebrity cancelled the excursion we had booked.  But, it is still showing on the website--both the excursion and the port stop there.  We are on that cruise too.

I'm quite sure that the decision falls well within the authority of the captain. There may be a cap beyond which the captain may need to discuss with corporate, but captains command their ships with a good deal of autonomy.
