Testing Positive at the End of Cruise…..what happens?

If one tests positive just before the end of a cruise, what happens after you get off the ship? Are you required to go to a hotel? Can you rent a car and drive home?

Depends on where you disembark  have read different situations for US, UK, those  having to fly home. & those driving home. On the ship they have a section of isolation cabins blocked off

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I understand, you have to be isolated for 5 days after testing positive.

 

If you test positive on board and spend 3 days in isolation on the ship, then they will take you to a hotel where you will isolate for 2 more days.

 

If you drove to the port, they will take you to your car and instruct you to isolate at home for 5 days. (At least that's what happened to someone arriving to Port Everglades on RCCL)

All I know is if something happens, I'm not letting them put me in a hotel seeing that I live 25 minutes from San Pedro

I would like to hear as well.  There is a horrible experience reported  on the NCL boards from a recent cruiser.   I hope Princess does better.  We have 2 cruises coming up, one on Princess and the other NCL. 
 

@fpsphil this happened at the Port of San Pedro.  The passengers with their own cars drove home.  It seems there were many passengers in affected.

It does depend on the rules of the locality where you are to disembark and also the rules of your final destination.  So a Canadian testing positive on a cruise ending in Florida would need to meet the quarantine and testing/physician's note requirements of Canada before they could fly home.  But an American disembarking in Florida would not even be tested (unless they had symptoms and the ship's physician decided a test was necessary).

 

But folks do need to understand that everything having to do with travel and COVID is flexible and rules can change overnight.  Relying on the current rules as a basis for the future has not been an effective strategy during COVID.

I’m in California doing a California coastal…first cruise since the start of this mess. It’s not until April so many things can change between now and then.  I just like to have Plan B and C in my mind. Yes, I’m an overplanner.

On Majestic Princess 12-29 to January 8th  this was posted by a passenger disembarking today. No word yet , if they are local California residents and drove home.

As promised, another update as our cruise has ended. Not the update I was hoping to give, however, as we spent the last two nights in the quarantine rooms on the Dolphin deck. We noticed a few days ago that everywhere on the ship coughs and sneezes could be heard, and started feeling a little more run down than usual. To be safe (and respectful of other passengers) we took tests and were both positive. Guest services wouldn't give us a head count of others who tested positive, but as we disembarked this morning (full hazmat suited escorts took us out group by group out a service elevator and around the side of the boat to the back side of customs) I tried to count the other "sick rooms" but lost count after at least 20 or so surrounding doors with red dots and notes on them. And our group of 6 was the last of several, according to a radio we overheard. I don't want to discourage anyone from cruising, but I think the best thing you can do is assume that everyone you are around has it, and act accordingly (take the stairs, wear your mask at all times, etc). We are in our 30s/40s and feeling pretty miserable at the moment. Not the way we wanted to end our trip, to say the least!

The answer for you is pretty easy.  You won't be able to fly home until you can present a negative PCR test result to the airline.

We have a 4 day sailing planned the end of Jan with one stop in Grand Turk. If we were to stay onboard and not get off in Grand Turk, since we live in the U.S. and are not flying home internationally, will we need to be tested by Princess when disembarking?  I'm thinking it may depend on whether the ship is actually allowed to doc and people are allowed to get off if they so chose? 

Any thoughts?

INCREDIBLE!!

Whose bright idea was it to stop requiring masks?? 

There were no masks or social distancing and (surprise!) Covid cases were popping up all over the ship.

This affects all of us because their passengers go ashore in the same ports Princess stops at. They can infect all of the locals who in turn can give infect us.

Since cruising resumed there have been many comments on this forum made by potential Princess cruisers that they were not willing to accept the Princess masking requirements that they judged to be unwarranted because, after all, Celebrity didn't require masks.

No testing at disembarkation would be required in your example. It would not matter if you stayed on the ship or went ashore at Grand Turk.

 

Disembarkation resting is only required if flying internationally after the cruise or if continuing on the next segment as part of a B2B or getting on another Princess ship that day.
