Nunagoras Posted March 19, 2022 #77 Share Posted March 19, 2022 First of it all: As some of the others on this thread, I'd never to pay an up charge to eat fast food on a cruise ship!... Here in Portugal where I live we have pretty much a McDonald's on every corner that maybe! No JR if I recall, but several other burger ventures from mainstream to "luxury" ones!... Again; once on vacation, I want those more sophisticated things I usually don't eat as frequently as fast food or a steak house. Fast food might to be an option for that long shore excursion day when you reach the ship very late and want just something to keep you for the next hours to be. Let that to refer to the Windjammer as free as it can be!... On a side note permit me to say that; while I understand the need for waste control on these so hard days we're living from the Covid to the Ukraine war, it saddens me that it is becoming so difficult to have some nice little free off hours food on ships. Maybe: Let a little part of the Windjammer open some 20 hours a day with some nice little options, both salty and sweet to come with now that Cafe Promenade will become a full Starbucks... And this is not just an RCI trend, it is all industry round, sadly...

blackjack24 Posted March 20, 2022 #79 Share Posted March 20, 2022 (edited) Just got back from allure and this last cruise they only served breakfast and then 11-3:30 for lunch. We were disappointed as we usually like to go eat there late after the casino and usually eat it a few times a cruise. Did it once this time just because the timing wasn't when we usually like it. Their BLTs are great and burgers aren't bad. I can think of a lot of other places I'd get rid of before Johnny rockets. Much better than whats usually in the windjammer. After covid the windjammer has been very meh at best. JRs at it's price is a better value than chops IMO. Chops is high for no better steak than they serve. The one time we went it was packed and had a wait time too. For those saying it's too high you can get bacon cheese fries, double bacon cheeseburger, chili and an awesome BLT for like 11 bucks. Not that one would eat it all but it's a decent deal. Edited March 20, 2022 by blackjack24

I like "Five Guys " better........... well after the various awards shows, everyone heads to the In and Out. Heard that Prince Harry likes them too. It's like Pepsi vs Coke. Then the best part they fill the container with fries really full then put the fries in a bag, then they scoop in another whole scoop of fries into the bag over top the container of fries, so you get like 2 servings . They also put just the right amount of salt on them, they are the best !! Edited March 20, 2022 by Jimbo

Give us a Mongolian BBQ or fresh Asian choice also like Carnival.... Yes, Guys burgers are excellent. All of Carnival's included food options (Guys, Mongolian, Deli, Big Chicken, Blue Iguana) are way better than the included options on Royal. The Blue Iguana breakfast burrito is fantastic, not to mention lunch blows El Loco Fresh out of the water. 9 hours ago, bigque said: How are the burgers overpriced when it just cost $9.99 to eat all you can eat for whatever is on the menu??? To say that is to say you never even been in one to eat on a cruise. I agree with them. Even $1 is too much for the JR burger. The onion rings are gross and fries are bad. The burger in Playmakers is so much better, and it costs $9. The onion ring tower is delicious at PM's. Add me to the list of folks that wouldn't mind JR's disappearing from the ships.

Which they were because they're sliced right there before your eyes before dropping into the fryer. On the minus side, they do not retain their heat well and quickly get cold and floppy on the drive home. I'm a Southwest kiddo, so I had In-N-Out growing up but faced a 11 year drought between SoCal trips (1987 - 1998). Putting them in Vegas helped - their insistence on being able to supply their own stores + having enough stores to justify the distribution explains the slow growth. Now these days, I drive past one every day to and from work in Fort Worth, but something in me wants to save it for special occasions because for so long, that's what it was. First stop once we got the rental car. But as you say elsewhere, it's Pepsi vs. Coke. Pepsi doesn't suck, it's just not for me. Cmackdaddy Posted March 20, 2022 #99 Share Posted March 20, 2022 After several years hiatus, we tried JR on the Liberty a few weeks back and found it to be not much different than the burgers and dogs served in the Windjammer. Most definitely not worth the upcharge. Guy's on Carnival has a superior product and at no upcharge.
