Balcony question

Are there now two types of balcony staterooms….either with sliding doors out to a real balcony, and staterooms with a window that can be opened?

I just booked Enchantment… directly over the phone with RCCL.   The rep kept repeating “ocean view balcony”.   My confirmation only states guarantee ( no specific category) so am now worrying.

It will be a balcony with sliding glass door. It just means it looks out on the ocean.

@roupa - Enchantment is a vision class ship.  Every balcony cabin has a sliding glass door.  And all balcony cabins are ocean view.  But on Oasis class ships, there are Central Park balcony cabins and Boardwalk balcony cabins.  Those are not "ocean view".  RC just uses the same "ocean view balcony" terminology for all its ships, whether there are other kinds on that ship or not.

I don't believe there are any cabins on any current ship in the fleet with "windows" that open.

Biker, who is waiting for someone to chime in with the exception.

Thanks!   I know Enchantment is older and smaller, so felt I would be getting the traditional balcony. Just needed reassurance.  I am looking forward to actually sitting outside and not in a cubicle with a window! 🤣

Older ships had portholes that one could open.  Maybe I’m dating myself🤣

I just found the term “ infinite balcony” described in the new Celebrity Edge description.   Seems there are conflicting opinions. Windows open from the top to about half way to the floor. There is a sitting area in front of the window, hence my conception of a cubicle.

Doubt they’re at the water line! 😉🤪

Correction:   The term is Infinite Veranda

They are quite controversial on the Celebrity board, with the majority voting no thanks.

However, recently there was a thread (and I am paraphrasing here) to the tune of "think the Infinite Verandas are bad? Well RC is putting them on their newest ship".

I'm  not a watcher of new builds, so perhaps someone who does monitor these things can comment with a confirmation or a denial.

Personally I like the infinite verandas on Celebrity. They make the cabin feel bigger and still have the ability to mimic a balcony. The one drawback in my opinion is sometimes the sliding window is locked due to circumstances like bad weather or high winds. But they are definitely polarizing. Every person I know who has experienced one either really likes it or hates it.

This one opened on Enchantment.  But I doubt it was easily closed afterwards.2AB27ACD-3B81-4F86-82A1-9F81F454BCEC.thumb.jpeg.5ab42c3d114ae6394cef380443559aec.jpeg

Veranda my foot. Just like Casino Royale was trying to equate the Virtual Balcony as a true Balcony.

It's been known/confirmed for quite some time that Icon will have those types of cabins.

River cruise ships call those drop down windows "French Balcony" and for small cabins they are pretty cool.  I think we have one on an upcoming Avalon river cruise in south of France.  If I didn't want to pay for a balcony then I would pay for one of these just to be able to hear the waves and get some fresh air.

I wonder if the C&A balcony discount would apply to a "virtual" balcony.

The C&A balcony discount usually does not even apply on real balconies. I don't think I have ever had it apply, as it is usually not combinable with whatever rate I end up booking under.
