So what about tipping for room service?  Is the gratuity already added in?

That's what I'd like to know. When we booked our Verandah room on the Silhouette, we chose the inclusive option which covered Wi-fi, basic drink package and gratuities. Our reservation is showing that we pre-paid $140.00 in gratuities. Would this cover the room service gratuity or would it be included in the room service charge?

Negative ghostwriter…Only tips included are the daily gratuities and drinks within your drink package

I'm beginning to think I made a big mistake...I booked a TA for April, my first Celebrity cruise since early 2019, and was not aware of all the cutbacks.

Did 3 cruises on HAL in 2022 and never had to pay for room service breakfasts. I'm past final payment, so i guess I'm stuck with a sub-par experience.

We haven't been on Celebrity since 2019 as well.  Our first Celebrity cruise since the restart is in March.  We are in a RS so I'm hoping that we are somewhat insulated from the cuts...that isn't to say that I don't care about them.  We treated ourselves to the RS because we had a lot of saved up cruise cash but as Celebrity cheapens their product, it impacts all of us, regardless of category.  Having said that, I encourage you to keep your glass half full...I know we are!  I'm excited to get back to the ships I love and the fabulous people.  My faith was renewed by @BermudaBound2014's live review on the Constellation.  Regardless of the cuts, she rated her cruise a 10 and she was in a veranda stateroom!

The fee is $9.95 plus 18% gratuity, so the cost is $11.75. I just debarked Monday.

But here is the really sad part. You can no longer order anything from the main dining room. It is room service menu only. Four main items available (pasta, burger, hot dog, turkey cub). I posted the menus in my live from Constellation thread. I tried everything, there was no changing the new 'rule'. They are working off the room service menu only. Of course, I was in a verandah so perhaps the suite room service menus offer more choices.

What also stinks is the 18% gratuity charge, same goes with drinks which I think is 20%, we are already paying gratuities on the automatic daily fee charge. This is nothing but plain gouging. Shame on Celebrity.

Its not "gouging". The daily gratuities cover your dining and stateroom service.  Additional services have - and shoul dhave - additional gratuities.  I'm personally thrilled that Celebrity rolls the gratuities into the drink package price, rather than using the per-drink model that NCL does.

Can you order room service when you first board for lunch?  Or is there a set time when it starts?

it doesn’t start until 5 pm n embarkation day. It also ends at 1 am on debarkation day.

They issue I have is they sold me a different product than they are delivering and didn’t reduce the price or refund for lack of service.  When I booked there was free room service.  We actually use it a lot.  Every day for breakfast, and not just muffins but a hot breakfast then most sea days for lunch too.  So it is important to us. And no, we waste a lot less food than if we went to the buffet.

I get it that they need to make changes but don’t sell me a product, and fully charge me for the product, then take away benefits.

it would be very easy to link booking date to your account and remove room service charges based on when you booked.  Very simple IT solution.

Go with an open mind, don’t be put off by anything you read on the internet. You’ll know if it’s a sub par experience when on board, it may be just that, you may absolutely love it. Only time will tell.

Someone mentioned it before but I think it has at least some merit:  With the downsizing of the dinner buffet they might heave expected an uptick in dinner dining in room and this is one way to reduce the impact.   I'm sure there is more to it but I think this might have 'something' to do with it.

One would hope that you are able to get them to reverse any charges.  However, I suspect that Celebrity may try and use the clause in their contract about reserving the right to make changes.  Let's hope common sense prevails.

I think you should email the executive office, state this case, and ask for OBC to cover room service charges. For a 7 night cruise, asking for $100 OBC doesn't seem out of line.

Gee, when I booked my cruises they mailed out luggage tags pre-cruise.  Now I have to print them myself.  How much OBC do you think I can get?  🙂

It does not include the room service charge, nor should it as everyone does not use it.  That is added to the charge when and if you use the service.

first, what you think is easy to implement is likely not so easy. Second, your attitude from the get go by expecting a 'sub-par" experience pretty much dooms you to a sub-par experience. You likely are already getting OBC... so use that. that's what it is for, to enhance your experience based on your individuals wants.

Respectfully disagree.  Cruises are sold years ahead. They have to be able to change the product is understandable ways. You have a long time to cancel and get your money back. This change took place likely before final payment, if not and if this is such a big deal to you, you should ask to cancel and get  refund, not ask for obc.

The automatic daily gratuity charge has never been for more than dining room service and your cabin stewards regardless of if you paid them or they are included in AI.  Unless you have a drinks package all drinks have again always been plus a gratuity, with a drinks package the gratuities are included in the cost.  Other purchases like bottles of wine have also always had a gratuity added to the cost. This is one area that there is no gauging.

It comes down to, if you do not want to pay for room service, book a suite or do not use it and go to the MDR, mast grill or OVC for lunch, snacks and breakfasts. If you need to eat in your cabin, bring a plate down from the OVC and avoid any RS fees.  I remember in the old days of cruising back in the early1990's most cruise lines had a charge for room service.

I don't really have a position on this, but if part of your gratuities are going to the MDR waiter, as an example, and you don't show up in the MDR but instead order room service, why are you paying tips to the MDR waiter?  Or are you really paying his/her salary?  I get this could be a 4th meal, but I kind of see the point.

Shame on you for failing to understand that if you do not buy a drink package (where your tips are included) than you should pay charge plus tip per drink. That's just common sense and simple math. And...before you throw numbers around and they then become "fact" because someone read it here.... 18% is the tip charge.  And when were you permitted to order room service from the MDR instead of the room service menu?
