Vaping in Casino on Equinox

It’s far too late here to lay my hands on the original research but here is a link to the headlines. https://academic.oup.com/ntr/article/21/10/1371/5040053
I Know that many on here have no interest in the facts and will again shout me down but those that still claim that vaping and smoking are the same thing I really don’t have the time or the inclination to waste my breath arguing with, they won’t accept that anybody has a valid view that disagrees with their own. Yes I know that some Vapers are extremely inconsiderate. They need to be kept in line with a clear and well defined policy. I Also know that many are not inconsiderate and we will not see this as a green light to vape everywhere onboard (quite a sweeping supposition repeated many times here). Revelling in the victory of having the signs removed does nothing to help with that clarity. These posts have been so disheartening to read. The whole attitude of the people posting about this seems to be that no opinion other than their own has any validity and the louder they shout they will get their own way. What a sorry place this is.

That’s nothing compared to the methane I’ve been breathing in for days on here.

My mother was a smoker. She died from lung cancer. I did not need any genius research or report to tell me what happened to her or why it happened, I saw it with my own eyes.

I just followed your link.  Published June 2018……..fast forward 5 years to 2013, like now.  There had been more research done

Vaping and smoking mean inhaling a high temperature burning  element or two or 20.    That is unhealthy. period.   holding the smoke/vapor  into your lungs as you indicated you do, is not healthy.
several have posted way more current research on this issue.

As indeed I watched my own father die from Mesothelioma and lung cancer(he was a boilermaker in a Shipyard and a smoker) I Feel your pain horseymike and I am sorry to hear that. That’s why I am so glad I have ridden myself of my 60 cigarette a day habit and vape instead. I Tried many times to stop smoking and never managed to get even close until I discovered vaping.  I Would never dream of humiliating anybody for making that switch nor throwing around the accusations and suppositions that have been vented here over the last few days. There is so much misinformation spouted around the subject by people that haven’t a clue what they are shouting about. I Have done a lot of research myself around the subject and whilst there is more to be discovered about the long term effects of such a new thing, I for one am convinced that many lives will be saved. Yes I completely understand how the very few that are happy to puff clouds of vapour in front of others are an annoying minority, the vast majority of us that vape whilst respecting those around us are very conscious of what we are doing. I Reiterate clear rules must be in place and rigorously enforced.

Very fair and balanced point, IMHO

Shout you down?  Yet you keep posting.  Hmmm.

I read the article.  Interesting.  I’ll keep reading other studies.

At least these posts make me laugh.  😂

Why is it that those who impact other people’s health can’t be bothered to post research?  At least these posts make me laugh.  😂

That says an awful lot about you. I Do feel very strongly because I believe that in the future less people will have to watch their loved ones slip away so painfully in front of them. I’m not sure which part of that is so hilarious to you.

How are you being shouted down?  Who is keeping you from posting?

Many of us are talking about vaping.  What are you talking about?

if given the choice between a roomful of air and a roomful of vape exhaust, I’ll take the air.

How many years did it take before doctors said second hand smoke was bad for you?

I Think we’re done. Your hilarity at a subject that is so important to people on both sides of the debate and your lack of any valuable input tells me all that I need to know.

It's not like we’re talking about life and death here.  I thought vaping was harmless?  🙄

In the interests of good will, I’m giving you the benefit of the doubt and assuming that you really aren’t aware of how offensive you are being. Yes it is a matter of life or death when people whose lives could be saved by switching from smoking to vaping. When you have held the hand of your father as he takes his last laboured breath you might not be so willing to mock people. Do you really think that your mockery is funny?

I’m sorry. I too watched my mother die at barely 60 - gasping so desperately for each breath that I could see every rib clearly. And my dad helplessly watched the love of his life die a terrible death. Surrounded by chain smokers in my childhood, I’ve already inhaled too much secondhand smoke. I don’t want to be exposed to vaping or smoking indoors.

I’m so sorry to hear that Silkroad. It’s so desperately sad. I still worry now as my dad used to come home in his work overalls covered in asbestos fibres and put them in the laundry basket. Who knows? I Still believe tough that the policy needn’t effect anybody if it is introduced responsibly. If vaping were permitted in part of the Casino that was clearly separated and there was a clear policy then it would harm nobody. The particles emitted are almost zero within 2 seconds. They just don’t travel. I Would actively encourage people to vape if it means they give up smoking. I’m sorry that my opinions have caused such a backlash but I won’t be bullied into silence.

You put an interesting case and I would agree that so far Vaping seems far less harmful than smoking cigarettes.

How exactly to you propose the "clear separation" in the casino?

At roulette players sit shoulder to shoulder.

At Black Jack inches apart.

At Craps (which we don't play) the area is packed.

The Slots have just enough space for one small chair, trying getting close with a Rollator.

The only practical solution would seem to be a totally enclosed section with every type of game within it. The area would have to be permanently staffed by employees who willingly agreed to work in a smokey environment.

Sorry the present system works well, smoking and vaping in clearly defined areas outside and no smoking inside or on balconies. It's also the system that attracts us and many, to cruise Celebrity.

When (and why) did this thread spin to comparing smoking to vaping?

The Celebrity casino is going from nothing to vaping so the comparison at hand for this venue should be smoke free to vaping.  Vaping being safer than smoking should not enter into Celebrity's decision and don't we all know it won't since this is about profit margins.

I do not smoke or vape but understand some need to.  They currently are able to do so in a designated open space.  It is beyond my understanding why Celebrity would want to make the casino another place to expose others to vaping.  It does seem it is a money thing to Celebrity(as all their decisions are) but in an indoor space?

I do anticipate dirty looks, complaints, etc. in the casino if this becomes the rule.  We sail on Apex in December and hope vaping is not allowed in the casino then.

An excellent post. I would add to this, a question. If a considerate person who vapes is next to me in the casino where vaping is allowed, will that person refrain from vaping, respecting my space and refusing to become an inconsiderate person who vapes? If not, why not?
