SchoolNurseMom Posted September 13, 2023 #1 Share Posted September 13, 2023 I’ve had some themed cookies made that I’d like to carry on the ship to surprise members of our group. Is this allowed in carry on? Or do I need to come up with a way to safely put them in my suitcase? Any ideas?

Pack them in your checked bag, in the middle, surrounded by clothing.
Ashland Posted September 13, 2023 #3 Share Posted September 13, 2023 Your choice....you can put them in your carryon.
SchoolNurseMom Posted September 13, 2023 Author #4 Share Posted September 13, 2023 They won't trigger any issues? Are you allowed to bring on food items that are not factory sealed?

Are you allowed to bring on food items that are not factory sealed? Technically, I believe the answer is no non-factory sealed foods, but that may just be for getting off in foreign ports and returning to US. Customs regs. So as long as you can get them on board at embarkation via one or both methods mentioned, and they are consumed on the ship, you should be fine. BlackForest Posted September 13, 2023 #6 Share Posted September 13, 2023 There is no problem with bringing food on board in a carry on. I have brought my homemade Xmas cookies on past Xmas sailings without a problem. I also have brought on canned mixed nuts and potato chips which drives my husband crazy. His thinking is that there is always free food we can access on the ship at anytime. My thinking is I like what I like and potato chips aren't found on ships (wink). Enjoy your cruise!
chengkp75 Posted September 13, 2023 #7 Share Posted September 13, 2023 While it is done all the time, and rarely discovered, technically for a cruise involving a US port, USPH does not allow non-sealed food items to be brought onboard. This is because all food items are to be from documented sources, which your kitchen is not.

c-leg5 Posted September 13, 2023 #9 Share Posted September 13, 2023 Granted not Royal but still US port - We didn’t have trouble bringing on extra, fresh wedding cake in Hawaii. We declared it and were told it was OK.
Rare HappyTexan44 Posted September 13, 2023 #10 Share Posted September 13, 2023 Considering the reports of desserts on Royal being mostly pretty crappy, it might be worthwhile bring on some good cookies just in general.

From RCL FAQ: (does not say homemade or store) Guests are not allowed to bring on board any food items other than dry, non-perishable snack items (cookies, crackers, chips, energy bars, etc). Mum2Mercury Posted September 15, 2023 #16 Share Posted September 15, 2023 I'm pretty sure the cruise contract forbids homemade goods, but I suspect that's not really enforceable -- as someone else suggested, pack your goodies snugly in the middle of your bag and no one will see it.
ShillyShally Posted September 15, 2023 #17 Share Posted September 15, 2023 I'll report back on what I get on next month as we'll definitely be packing snacks, and while most will be sealed, some may be extra food from meals pre-ship. I haven't had any issue in the past bringing on items, but I know every sailing can bring a change!

Rare BirdTravels Posted September 15, 2023 #22 Share Posted September 15, 2023 Although not quite legal, you will be fine.... unless they are "special" cookies that one of the sniffer dogs will flag.
