Hi we are first time cruisers with HAL in May 24. Emailed proof of share holding and within 5 minutes we received advice that it had been credited to our onboard account. Great service. Can someone please advise where I can see this either online or on the app? Thanks in advance for any assistance

Best to keep all the paper work about the  Stock on board credit just in case it is not there when you check your account .you would then go to Customer  service with  your proof yo have it manually applied to your account

General note somewhere says that OBC shows up on your account by day two of the cruise. Do take a print out of the confirmation. A paper trail for everything, bookings, OBC, flights, etc are of great value when the clouds crash particuarly right now when mischief a foot around the world.

On my 13+ cruises the credit has always been on my statement on day 1, as soon as I embark.

Ditto for me.  However, you should be able to see the result of the credit when you sign into your HAL account (desktop version, not app) and go to "My Bookings" and click on "Manage Payments", you should be able to see on board credits there.  Not broken out by type necessarily but if you've been tracking your OBC, you should see the increase.  That is, of course, when the 🤬 HAL desktop website is working!

One thing I use - when I see that one of us has $100 more in OBC than the other person (on the statement HAL sends  me prior to sailing) then I know I got the shareholder credit.  You only get one per cabin, so it stands out.

Do you need to own the stock when you book or is owning it before you sail sufficient?  Do you need to hold the stock for some particular length of time?  How much OBC do you get?

You need to be able to show proof of stock ownership when you apply for the credit; you don't have to own it when you book. You are supposed to own it when you sail, but so far, this is not reverified. There is no time period during which you must own the stock.
The amount of onboard credit is determined by length of cruise. I generally take longer cruises (at least over 14 days), so get $250 per cruise. This is all an after-tax benefit, as there are no US taxes due on the credit.

Some years I have managed to get $750 in CCL on board credits! Sweet.

So Carnival is at $12.26 today.  I can buy 100 shares for $1,226.  And then I get 250 OBC for my January 17 day cruise and another 250 OBC for my 14 day cruise a year from now (assuming they extend the program as is)?  Do I have that right?

Seems like a no-brainer if so.  Does it matter if you own the stock in a regular brokerage account or an IRA/rollover account?

Yes on the OBC amounts and No on what type of account. All you need is a brokerage statement that you can send in documenting you have min 100 shares in your name.

It’s absolutely a no brainer. We bought our shares at around 7.50 last year, and they’ve already paid for themselves.

I have a paper showing I own the stock.   Do I have to mail it or can it be sent via e-mail?   I could take a picture with my phone and send that in an e-mail or have someone help me to scan it and send it.  Any advice on what  is the best way?

You absolutely can take a picture and email. You'll black out sensitive info, such as account numbers, address, etc. You will receive back an email confirming it was received; wait 2-3 days, then have an updated invoice sent so you can see the OBC as it's not visible on the website.

I scanned it and attached it to the email (CCLshareholderHAL@hollandamerica.com). Usually get a reply the got it right away and another email a day or so later that they applied it to my upcoming bookings.

The reply will cover all bookings through next June. Been doing this for the last few years and so far the benefit has remained constant.

Thank you Haljo and Dutchman for the information.   I will send in my proof via e-mail.

If you have online brokerage account access, an easy way to do it is to screenshot (or download) a statement and attach it to an email.   You can black out  things electronically if you prefer.   I too bought some for less than $10/share in 2020 and have gotten more in OBC in the past few years than my initial investment. (And it’s almost doubled in value, to boot!)

I really hope they keep renewing the benefit annually.  That’s the one caveat, it can only be applied to cruises as far into the future as the CCL board(?) approves it.  I believe he current date is something like 7/31/24

OK, back to the topic of seeing where your SH OBC is in your account...

I never can see it on HAL.  Maybe if I apply for the credit prior to making final payment, I could see it when I look at the booking/manage payments as 0bnxshs said above.  Since I paid my January cruise off recently, I see nothing there but the fare, taxes/fees, and total.

The booking confirmation I received after payoff shows the same OBC I had when I first booked despite my paying the balance off early to receive the extra OBC that (supposedly) is being offered for early payoff.

So, since online doesn't show me OBC anywhere, I have no idea whether the early-payoff or my SH OBC has been applied.  Yes, I did receive the email saying the SH OBC had been applied.  It has always appeared on my account once I board but, yes, I do print out the email and take it with me because you just know the one time I don't will be the time it doesn't get applied!

Anyway, if there is actually a way to see an OBC breakdown somewhere after you've paid off the cruise, I'd love to know how!

The only way to see OBC is to get an updated invoice from HAL. It will show a breakdown of the "type" or source of OBC, but you will see the dollar amount.

If you have a TA on the booking, you will have to get it from them. If you do have a TA, they can breakdown OBC by type.

If there are two or more people on the booking, one will show a higher number of OBC ($50-250) than the other person, which usually means that you got the credit.

Another thing to consider - when buying the stock, put it in a joint account (if possible).  That way when either person cruises on HAL you get the credit.  One per cruise of course.

Another note - no stockholder credit is issued on Casino offer cruises (free or deeply discounted ones).  If you are on a casino discount (10-30%), you can still get the stockholder credit.

We have owed shares for many years and every year they have renewed the shareholder benefit.

I used to mail it via the post but would rather send it via e-mail.
