I've actually had a very bad asthma attack in church froma woman who was wearing very strong perfume in front of me. I excused myself and left to go inhale my medicine. I had to be driven home. Yup not just cigarettes

But what does that have to do with smoking areas? You might want to ask the paster to talk to the woman about the strong perfume.

I had a coworker who used strong perfume to hide the oder from her smoking habit.  You can smell the cigarette odor on smokers.

So does the perfume and aftershave that people bathe themselves in daily.   Those fumes are just as detrimental to people with lung conditions as smoking is!

What does that have to do with smoking areas? Certainly you don't think people should be allowed to smoke everywhere because perfume is allowed?

Thak you for the map. I am the OP .Can we please stop this now?

@berwyn

Unfortunately, some of these topics tend to take off into different discussions. Some of them get interesting and some of them just rehash old discussions.

Not your fault and not much you can do about it.

It happens on certain subjects.

....or maybe have designated perfume areas - LOL.  I understand that strong perfumes can be equally annoying as cigarette smoke, but as you have aptly pointed out the two are by no means related.  I get it with allergies, etc., but perfumes are not a documented health risk with well understood regulated guidelines regarding its use.

That all being said as well pointed out there are designated smoking areas for those who wish to smoke.

Also those smokers that are bathing in perfume and cologne are only kidding themselves. Speaking from past experience,I use to think that would cover up the stench when I use to smoke.

Not a chance. Where is the surgeon general's warning on a bottle of perfume.

They are both annoying.  One definitely more hazardous then the other.

I don't like either as they both affect me.  Perfume more so as people usually smoke outside and I don't really notice it as much as it seems as if more people vape nowadays.

I agree with you, it affects everyone differently.

I can cut through the smoking area and handle a person with too much perfume nearby but my dad had issues with both being close to him. I don’t mind the vapers either, but do not like when they haul off a puff in the areas where they are not allowed too.  On our second to last cruise one person was vaping in Studio B during the quest. Their team lost 10 points, as they should.

I read it. I think bringing the two up in the same sentence is ridiculous. I'm done. Moving on.

If they were stuck in there with their own smoke they might just decide to give it up. If they are on an island far away from non smokers I don't have an issue. It is just when it interferes with my enjoyment I have issues. I was hoping when vapes came out people would use those instead of cigarette. At least with those it dissipates a lot faster, but even those I don't want to be next to someone doing it.

I agree about areas being away from public, but disagree about bolded text.

It is completely different processes and I do not think other people should make a decision for people.

I can't smell aftershave or perfume 10 feet from someone, I can smell smoke like 30 to 40 feet away and on ships if you are below the smoking section it goes right into your balcony. They should make it all smoke free.

We sailed years ago on Carnival Paradise at that time the entire ship was non smoking, but it didn't last just a few years later they went back to allowing smoking in designated areas.

It’s just like some airports. There’s an enclosed room for all the smokers. Heck they don’t even have to but cigarettes they can just enhale all that second hand smoke

I appreciate your sense of humor, but again, airport is for several hours. Still it is a torture.

Not sure why if it does not affect you (read away from the public) "public" should dictate how it is should be done.

Read the forum on smoking. There are people that have complained that the smoke from the smoking area goes into the balconies below. Casino are not closed in so that smoke goes around too. Away from public isn't really away. I am glad you agree that second hand smoke is torture.

I was a smoker years ago.  Now I hate it.  I'll tolerate it in the casino and would never make any comments but if someone thinks they're going to do it on their balcony near mine I will be making a phone call.

I didnt say they caused it...i said it affects them in an adverse way.   sheesh..chill out folks

I understand what you’re saying.  People allergic to strong perfume don’t suffer lung damage, but they can experience a reaction to the perfume, such as difficulty breathing, or, in my case, Elizabeth Taylor’s Passion perfume caused me to have a migraine and I had to go to the doctor’s office for a shot.  Fragrant flowers and candles make it difficult for me to breathe.  I just walk away from these situations.  Fortunately, I no longer suffer with migraines.
