petuniaflower Posted April 23 #1 Share Posted April 23 Going with a group currently of 14, what is the likely we can all sit together for dinner in the MDR, and do we request this in advance?

Link your reservations and you would likely end up with 2 tables for eight. You can email Royal dinning two weeks before sail date and ask that your tables are next to each other. If you are set up with MTD then see the host as soon as you board to be set up next to each other every night.

However, we have seen 2 tables (8-person/each) to accommodate larger parties near or next to one another...just not connected.

Agree, better to break into smaller groups and plan on rotating tables throughout the cruise to interact with different members of your group rather than the 5 or 6 you can talk to without shouting

What would be the point of a table for 14? As stated two tables for 7, or 6+8, would be much more comfortable for conversation depending on group mix - age, couples, families and you can always change seats and tables from night to night. The larger the group the louder the noise - the more difficult it is for you and everyone around to hear each other.

Request two 8-tops. And, most groups may eat together once or twice in a 7-night cruise. The rest of the nights they will be off exploring specialty dining or something more flexible like the buffet. You don't want to be the one the group resents by insisting that they eat together... because families don't do that any more.

cruiseguy1016 Posted April 24 #13 Share Posted April 24 We had a table for 12 on Adventure several years ago. It was impossible to hold a conversation. In hindsight we wish we had had 2 tables for 6.

We did a group of 15 on Allure a few years back. They merged 4 tables together for us every night. We had an early sitting.

Poplin Posted April 25 #19 Share Posted April 25 Just off the Symphony and had early dining time. Once the early diners left, a table (lengthwise) was set up each night to sit 18-20 for MTD. We watched as the party came in and noticed they seated all the kids at one end and adults at the other. Several nights our table stayed until 7:00 chatting and watched this large group come in. I'm not sure if there were seat assignments but the kids seemed to know exactly where to go and were well behaved and waiters had it well under control and organized. Other diners had to maneuver around the setup but it wasn't that bad.
Rare island lady Posted April 25 #20 Share Posted April 25 Noticed one large family group recently. They had two tables for 10. All the kids were at one table, with the adults apparently further down at another. We walked through deck 5 to get down to deck 4 as a short cut each night. Naturally no one to supervise the table of kids. The noise that the kids were making that could be heard on the deck below by all of us all week. Parents left them to the care of the poor servers. 😬 Not a good plan. Parents ....please sit with your kids to teach them some manners they will need in their adult life. dvan68 Posted June 13 #21 Share Posted June 13 We also have a party of 14. Is there a specific email address to use to request our party be seated together? Sorry to say that the TA we have used has been less than stellar in the information department, so I would like to confirm this for ourselves. Include your C&A number and booking numbers for your party. Your TA should have already linked your bookings together, so you should confirm that. Like posted above, send the email a couple of weeks before your cruise. Good luck and happy cruising!
sie625 Posted June 13 #23 Share Posted June 13 If you were on Freedom, 8 of you could stay in the 4 bedroom family villa, and others stay in different rooms, If my memory is correct, the table on that balcony seats exactly 14. Wouldn't do it every night, but certainly possible. And then you also get a private hot tub!

We have always used a TA and used that email address for dining requests. We have had every request honored.
Baron Barracuda Posted June 13 #25 Share Posted June 13 Did a family cruise years ago with 23 across 3 tables in early traditional dining. Everyone switched seats nightly and it went well. Did another with 18 friends in MTD which went horribly. Group leader requested 7pm each night with same tables and waiters. Problem was there were always folks dining ahead of us at theses tables and we had to wait for all three to finish and be reset. Sometimes took 1/2 hour. Traditional works much better.
