Retain CC Status

On my Celebrity journey I, one day, would hope to be Zenith.

When I fly with an airline or stay with a major hotel group they expect me to maintain my status by using them a few times per year.

As a regular customer, who has a few cruises booked and paid for, (and Elite) I’d like know that the upper echelons of the CC fraternity are also contributing towards the company and not resting on their laurels.

Celebrity does not have any such similar aspects.  Points and status do not expire.

Hello,

Don't go giving them ideas!

Regards,.

@swjumbo, I believe with Disney you need to cruise at least every 5 years to maintain status and with MSC it is 4 years. Have not heard of others thinking of adopting this practice. Virgin might also have something similar?

I don’t think that members of the higher level of CC rest on their laurels but they are probably more interested in their full lives than being an E+ or Zenith!

I am E+ and never likely to be Zenith as my life isn’t just about cruising. Over the last year I have enjoyed AI resorts, luxury lodges and family breaks. At some point I may cruise with another line from the UK as I don’t want to book E class…No cruise now until next year in the Caribbean on Reflection…

Indeed many Zeniths have also reported recently being ‘unfaithful’ and trying other lines!

The fact that reaching the "upper echelons of the CC fraternity" is only the result of those cruisers committing a substantial amount of discretionary money over time with the many cruises required to do so assures your concerns. Certainly exponentially more than those occasional cruisers and comparatively lower echelon members.

This is an odd concern to be expressed IMO and one whose answer is clearly self evident as these members wouldn't be upper echelon members by "resting on their laurels".  In fact they may hope that you continue to as diligently on your quest.

I don't concern myself with others tier level and how they achieved that tier level. I have yet to speak with anyone onboard about their tier level.

x hasn't done this because it doesnt cost them really any money or aggravation at present - a few drinks. Once legacy pax create an issue with space (in the Retreat) crowding out customers who have paid for the Retreat then the party is over

X wants to retain "presently profitable" customers , not the DYKWIA? crowd

No. I thought this would be an interesting discussion.

An interesting discussion of what exactly?  Are you saying "Should Celebrity have an expiration on Captain's Club Points?".  If that's it I vote no.  Or are you asking if the actual CC level achieved should be voided and go back to entry level after a certain number of inactive years?  I still vote no.

No one who is a CC member would vote yes to limit their benefits. Every airline, every airport lounge and every hotel has an expiration based on nights, money and length of loyalty. Most of those are yearly and there is a reason for that - to clear out low/no dollar customers who want (top) tier benefits.

CC benefits are pretty minimal anyway,  Some drinks, discounts on some services, maybe a bag of laundry. Doesnt cost that much and makes people feel good.

Cruise lines would be hard to demand much to retain status - some combination of nights and dollars.

However  they will when/if the Retreat lounge gets too cozy with legacy (they owe me for sailing on Mercury !) pax.

I was just trying to discern what the OP @swjumbo was actually asking.

If it doesn't cost them any money, why not offer free laundry, CaB coffee, and 5-7 happy hours to everyone for free?  Like many things, this has been discussed in length before.  The short version is that many will book the sail-only rate without the drink package and rely on the elite breakfast and elite happy hour for their drink

For me personally, On X, I have never paid for pressing, laundry, or coffee and usually get my drinks from the casino yet may have purchased a drink or two per sailing.   Once I became Elite, I started doing laundry, pressing, the elite happy hour, and coffee during the elite breakfast on every sailing including a 4-nighter.  Once Elite Plus, I have 1-2 coffees daily and do the second bag of laundry (if needed)

I appreciate they offer lifetime status.  At they end of the day, they offer it because their competitors do.  Perhaps one day they'll change to a requalify model but you'd imagine that would be for NEW cruisers only

I think a key point to keep in mind is that, although under the RCG family, Celebrity and RCCL are separate and independent cruise line companies.  They also have distinctly different offerings and target demographics.  As such they have developed their own loyalty programs and associated benefits to suit their own purposes, a process that began long before they offered the concept of benefit reciprocity.  I don't think the idea of this, including the most recent alignment of tiers with the reciprocity, was ever aimed at equalizing the benefits, only just offering a sharing of benefits at each tier level when sailing on each.

The discussion of which loyalty program is better at which level always will generate differing opinions as they each have different benefits. It is IMO just a matter of which cruise line suits any given cruiser for the different reasons they select to cruise with each line.  The loyalty programs and their associated benefits are secondary.  But as I cruise both for different reasons at different times, I am glad I can enjoy the loyalty benefits of each when I cruise with them.

I always thought the Pinnacle pins were sooo tacky, but now zeniths can have a swell pin, too.  Hmm, I wonder if I can paraphrase the dictionary example for use of the word déclassé:  Celebrity, a once-great cruise line that has become completely déclassé.

When you stray to another line, they deduct a 100 pts for being unfaithful.  😇
