It will never last. I've seen MANY on the Carnival board, and they all eventually get locked (permanently) or deleted.

Tom,

I can not find the Carnival discussion you reference. Can you give me the location of that thread?

Thanks,

Joe

One can never tell on message boards, so I just wanted to make sure that you were kidding... as my point was that the thread would likely go *poof* -- which apparently it may have.

If you weren't kidding, then... looks like the thread went *poof* !

:)

Usually, the only non-smoking period is after the Gala Dinner(s).

I can confirm that Smoking in the Casino on Nieuw Amsterdam is still allowed.

It is on the same side as the Cashier.

I asked about the rumor of all HAL Casinos going non smoking and was told, "No, not anytime soon"

Could someone clarify if smoking is permitted in designated areas when the ship is boarding on embarkation day? Thought I read somewhere that for a certain number of hours or until the ship leaves that smoking is not permitted at all because it is taking on fuel. That would be a difference between HAL and other lines I've sailed. Thanks!

Whilst I was in there the casino manager made an announcement that smoking was not permitted in the casino

I wish I had heard that. I would have told her. I hate smoke. I moved because of it.

There is a prohibition against smoking on balconies on the pier side of the ship during bunkering, but I don't think that there is a ship-wide prohibition. There were several people smoking on their balconies around our aft cabin during refuelling of the Nieuw Amsterdam last year.

Well that's hopeful news concerning the smoking status in the (Koningsdam) casino.... even if it conflicts with both another poster's first hand account as well as what HAL said to me directly in response to the Koningsdam casino prior to their first sailing. Still scratching head... !

I have also read from those that have sailed the "K" that there is no smoking in the casino primarily due to the openness of the surrounding bar areas including the Piano Bar?

Same on the revamped Eurodam.

I'm not certain what HAL is doing smoking wise in the Casinos on all ships today, but it appears to me from posts here that their policy is pretty close to the new smoking rules Princess has, for instance: "The Casino and Casino Bar are non-smoking areas on board, with the exception of designated slot machines where guests are permitted to smoke only while playing at those machines. All table games are non-smoking. The Casino will also have one or more non-smoking nights (6 pm to closing), depending on length of voyage."

We cruise a lot on Princess, I don't frequent the casinos but my wife does, to do the slots after dinner. She says Princess sticks to the above rules, which makes her happy as she doesn't smoke. What happens on the non-smoking nights is that new-comers mistakenly assume that the casino is always non-smoking because they were there one night when it was non-smoking.

It is true the X has not allowed smoking in the Casino for several years. But it is not because of the open space but rather because X has simply banned all indoor smoking on its ships as well as on balconies and most outdoor spaces. In fact, most (if not all) X ships do not even have a piano bar.

You are correct, but I believe mllewis48 was asking about "K" (Koningsdam).

I was not referring to Celebrity just Hal and its newest changes affecting the smoking policy changes in their Casino area.

Is smoking permitted in the Casino on the Zuiderdam? are there restrictions at the tables like roulette?

IF Zuiderdam's casino is set up like Nieuw Amsterdam's (I suspect they all are about the same) my memory says there are no table games in the smoking area.

BUT... Keep in mind that I do not pay attention to any table games since I do not play them. I only play slots, and can only speak for that area.
