Brace yourself for numerous people to complain about Crow's Nest/EXC... There, no point in mentioning it... it's been mentioned, so now you can get genuine feedback and not the bandwagon replies... BESIDES THAT: The stairs from the Casino to Music Walk were rather pointless. The hallway between the dining room and Blend... just an empty hallway except for some interactive screens about the culinary council... odd use of a good amount of space. Photo Gallery... HAL needs to get with the times, use the facial recognition software and they can have a photo gallery that uses 1/4 of the space.

catl331 Posted November 10, 2017 #5 Share Posted November 10, 2017 IMO the biggest flaw is the lack of a decent promenade - and the N.S. won't be any different.

Daisyloo Posted November 10, 2017 #9 Share Posted November 10, 2017 The toilets in the staterooms! Unless you are really short, sitting on the toilet will have you banging your knees into the glass of the shower. The toilets are at a weird angle, so to have your knees not hit the glass you have to sit sort of "side saddle". We spoke to a housekeeping supervisor whilst on the Koningsdam and she told us that the "powers that be" would correct this on the Nieuw Statendam. Hope so! freestyling Posted November 10, 2017 #10 Share Posted November 10, 2017 Add one more bank of elevators somehow please. Minimize the Photo Gallery space and increase the seating area (tables and counter) for the Grand Dutch Cafe. Loose the stairway from Casino to Music walk. Rare cbr663 Posted November 10, 2017 #11 Share Posted November 10, 2017 Don't like the smaller cabin sizes. Also really miss the adjustable coffee table found on other ships. This makes in suite dining very unenjoyable. Also miss the movie theatre.

I agree with you on the seating area in the Grand Dutch Cafe. Whenever we went there all seats were taken, many by passengers who were not using the Cafe. ETinCA Posted November 10, 2017 #13 Share Posted November 10, 2017 The promenade we agreed was too narrow. Disliked not having the lido cabanas. However we loved the two deck lido by the pool and really enjoyed the breakfast at the pizza location by the pool. Nice breakfast bagel sandwiches or yogurt parfaits. The ship is very beautiful. We are going back for New Years this year. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
CruiserBruce Posted November 10, 2017 #14 Share Posted November 10, 2017 The cabin bathroom might be a problem in some levels of cabins. There is not a problem in the suites. But the Retreat cabana shrinking, both on Koningsdam, and on some of the later Vista conversions, is NOT a good idea. The Promenade makes no money being two or three times as wide. It really wasn't an issue. ...we were able to walk it just fine in a smaller version.

Hflors Posted November 10, 2017 #18 Share Posted November 10, 2017 How ugly! It looks like an industrial hallway! Looks like the walkway from a tanker ship! and then of course no lounge chairs to sit and watch the ocean go by! NO movie theatre???? Talk about a step backwards! I thought someone mentioned exc. in the crows nest. I don't see it on the deck plans unless it in the exploration café. I had been thinking about maybe doing Koningsdam for an upcoming TA. Without a nice promenade, movie theatre and with 2600 people (way too many for me) I will be scratching this ship off my list!. I actually have a cruise booked on her in Jan. Looking at those pictures makes me less and less interested.

But for me the walk was far less enjoyable, and I like to be able lie with a book and enjoy the view of the water sometimes. Loungers in the sun on high decks just don't satisfy that need. OTOH, if the Retreat completely disappeared it wouldn't bother me a bit! :p
bobpell Posted November 10, 2017 #20 Share Posted November 10, 2017 The SS suite bathrooms on the Kdam are a step backwards for anyone approaching 6 ft. in height or someone with a posterior in access of 34 inches. the Jacuzzi bathtub is not U shaped but more of a shallow V. My wife found it uncomfortable to sit in. There is no longer a shower head or curtain in the suite bathtub. There is a pull up wand that will spray water on the floor if not handled carefully!! The glass shower stall at the end of the bathtub is too small if you are larger than 5 ft. 11 in. I had to open the shower door and step out to retrieve my facecloth that had fallen!!? We will continue cruising on the Vista class ships from now on. thanks Bob

This makes in suite dining very unenjoyable. Also miss the movie theatre. I spent 30 days on the Koningsdam, and I want to know what idiot decided to put black, sharp cornered, solid sided square coffee tables in a small area on a moving platform?? They not only visually suck up the special volume in the cabin, but they present a hazard when moving around the cabin. I travel solo, and I had bruises on my knees for weeks; I can't imagine what it would be like for two people! A prime topic of conversation among pax was "What did you do with your coffee table?" Answers ranged from putting it out on the balcony to the enterprising gentleman who put the thing on top of the desk and used it to store camera equipment. That square box was in the way and of little use. It certainly doesn't add value to the cabins, so why it is there is anyone's guess. More than once we had to push it out of our way. DaveOKC Posted November 10, 2017 #23 Share Posted November 10, 2017 Get rid of the Lido pool area movie screen. I seldom saw anyone viewing the movies (most were old and PG rated for obvious reasons. Plus the crew has to turn all the pool lounge chairs to face screen and then later back again to face pool - waste of time plus I am sure the cabins below do not appreciate the noise. For anyone who likes to walk the promenade for exercise, you just get a good speed up and then have to slow to a crawl around corners to avoid running into someone coming the other way (the wrong way, but that's another thread). ;):D

Our sailing there was always a good turn out using both levels. If they could utilize the screen during the day with a ball game that would make me happy but maybe not others. Bigger hot tubs for the new ship. The ones they have now are shallow and with 3 people is crowded and your playing footsie.
