superduper123 Posted July 10, 2013 #1 Share Posted July 10, 2013 I am curious on getting some opinions. Would you fly from Maryland to Port Canaveral for a 3 day weekend Bahamas get-away? This is assuming you have ruled out all other cruising options in the near future for various reasons. And it also does not include any additional time in Florida. Is this a ridiculous idea? Would it be worth is for such a short time?

PattyG12 Posted July 10, 2013 #3 Share Posted July 10, 2013 Sure ... as long as you realize how far the airport is from the port. We have done PC a few times and it's an easy but LONG drive.

Does that count?;):D
Creepella Posted July 10, 2013 #5 Share Posted July 10, 2013 We have flown from Toronto for that cruise, and are doing it again this year.
Clarea Posted July 10, 2013 #6 Share Posted July 10, 2013 I'd do it if there was no chance to work in a longer cruise in the near future.
goneclear Posted July 10, 2013 #7 Share Posted July 10, 2013 I dont see any problem with it. I have flown to Miami for a weekend several times. Not for cruises, just for a fun weekend. You will be surprised how short breaks like that recharge your batteries.
katydyd Posted July 10, 2013 #8 Share Posted July 10, 2013 I've done it from MA. Quite a few times.

HokiePoq Posted July 10, 2013 #11 Share Posted July 10, 2013 We wouldn't. DH would have the cost/benefit spreadsheet out, lol. But we are retired and things are different now. We flew cross country for five days of national park hopping before we retired. Now we try to make the most of airfare expense by combining cruises with other sight seeing pre or post cruise. If this is the most time you can get away, by all means, do it and have a great time!
Palmetto Pilot Posted July 10, 2013 #12 Share Posted July 10, 2013 I'd do it in a heartbeat! Then again I spend the majority of my life above 30,000 feet.
alfaeric Posted July 10, 2013 #13 Share Posted July 10, 2013 we've done it from Michigan quite a few times as well. go for it.
hazeleyez3 Posted July 10, 2013 #14 Share Posted July 10, 2013 We are flying to PC for a 4 nt holiday cruise in November. I should also say though, my aunt has stated that our "Ocean City" is a Caribbean cruise.
EpcotBill Posted July 10, 2013 #15 Share Posted July 10, 2013 Only if airfare was dirt cheap. I'd have to throw in a few nights at WDW to make it worthwhile otherwise.
chuckiesgirl Posted July 10, 2013 #16 Share Posted July 10, 2013 We have done it! This past May we went for a birthday celebration for a crew member and LOVED it! Would (and will) do it again in a heart beat! Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
cb at sea Posted July 10, 2013 #17 Share Posted July 10, 2013 I wouldn't do it for 3 days....for a week, sure...but the hassle of flying and cost isn't worth it, to me.
Ocean Boy Posted July 10, 2013 #18 Share Posted July 10, 2013 Southwest would have to have some really good pricing to get me on a three day cruise.

39august Posted July 10, 2013 #20 Share Posted July 10, 2013 We went on a 4 night cruise this past May on Jewel. I will never book a cruise that short again! Now, if I lived near the port and did not have to fly, then, sure, I'd book some short cruises.
KeywestK Posted July 10, 2013 #21 Share Posted July 10, 2013 I'd do it if the airfare was dirt cheap. BUT, I'd be much more likely to do it if I could catch a sweet cruise deal out of MIA or FLL for a short cruise, only because the airports are much closer and the taxi fare to the cruise terminal would be cheaper. ryano Posted July 10, 2013 #22 Share Posted July 10, 2013 No. I wouldnt even drive the 8 hours to PC for a 3 night cruise. 3 night cruises are a tease and I have no interest in doing one again. It would have to at least be 5 nights for me. Now if I still lived in Central FL like I use to, I would probably go broke doing "weekend" cruises. However, if that is something you really want to do, by all means go for it. It should not matter to you what any of us would do. We all probably do some things that would not appeal to you either. ;)
emeraldcity Posted July 10, 2013 #24 Share Posted July 10, 2013 I used to think I wouldn't, but last fall I definitely needed to get away from work. So I proposed a 3-day getaway to a co-worker. They never would have let us both off at that time for a whole week, so we did a 3-day and it was fabulous! And now she knows how much fun cruising is, so she joined C&A and is lobbying her husband to consider a cruise. (Do I get a commission?)
