April29 Posted September 3, 2015 #1 Share Posted September 3, 2015 I'll be on the Crown in a few weeks & just discovered that I have $ 50.00 OBC. This is my 1st time on Princess. What's a good way to spend it ?
arizonaperson Posted September 3, 2015 #2 Share Posted September 3, 2015 (edited) You can buy drinks,go to the casino,or use it for some of the daily gratuity.($11.50/day) Many things to buy.Endless possibilities and $50.00 Won't go very far,it will be spent quick. Rare Shelly97060 Posted September 3, 2015 #3 Share Posted September 3, 2015 If you want ideas on how to spend it- 50 dollars would cover dinner for two at a specialty restaurant or a coffee card, or a soda card... It will almost cover the cost of a pedicure or a couple of photos to remember your cruise. The OBC is good for anything onboard. Enjoy your cruise. :)
Rare cr8tiv1 Posted September 3, 2015 #4 Share Posted September 3, 2015 If you do nothing, it will be absorbed for automatic gratuity ($11.50 times number of nights). As everyone has mentioned, $50 won't go very far. But, if you take the approach that it is money to spend, then have a grand time buying yourself something you would not have otherwise. My OBC usually ends up in Facets (jewelry store). Rarely do I walk away with it in hand. The fun is thinking of all the things you can buy. Pam in CA Posted September 3, 2015 #5 Share Posted September 3, 2015 You'll have absolutely no problem "spending" it. Anything charged to your onboard account will be deducted from the credit until there's a balance due.
paul929207 Posted September 3, 2015 #6 Share Posted September 3, 2015 The first $50 in charges that hit your onboard account will be covered by the OBC. You do not have to do anything.
Colo Cruiser Posted September 3, 2015 #7 Share Posted September 3, 2015 I agree nothing to do, it will be used up with any first charges to your shipboard account. :)
avcruz Posted September 3, 2015 #8 Share Posted September 3, 2015 If you want to treat it as a gift to yourself, rather than use it for the auto-tips, which would be the default, buy yourself something nice from the shops. $50 should cover a nice bottle of perfume or a lipstick gift set. (Or a couple of duty-free bottles to take home... :-) )
cb at sea Posted September 3, 2015 #9 Share Posted September 3, 2015 You can't specify what it's used for...it's simply that the 1st $50 you spend is taken care of.
Steelers36 Posted September 3, 2015 #10 Share Posted September 3, 2015 I think the nicest thing to do is book a dinner in the Crown Grill (or Sabitini's if you prefer) for you and SO and presume that's where your free money went.
Thrak Posted September 3, 2015 #11 Share Posted September 3, 2015 As others have said, it will be used for anything onboard - including the daily gratuities. If you want to "spend" it then have dinner for two at Crown Grill. Order the Black and Blue Onion Soup, Rib-Eye Steak (medium rare of course), and ask them to add in Lobster Tail (no extra charge). :)
shredie Posted September 3, 2015 #12 Share Posted September 3, 2015 Another vote for the Crown Grill. They have the most delicious lamb chops.

What's a good way to spend it ? April, I thought I had a similar problem on an upcoming Celebrity cruise. My wife assures me that I have no need to be concerned about spending the OBC. crochetcruise Posted September 4, 2015 #16 Share Posted September 4, 2015 I'm going to buy my Soda and More Package for the cruise, and if the shops are open-Coastal sailing in Australia and I'm a newbie cruiser so don't know what time they open, hopefully before I dine, I'll get a gorgeous Captain Bear as my Suite Bed Companion for Embarkation Night. Something warm and soft to cuddle that won't get me into any trouble! :D A kind friend bought me 1 when she sailed on the Sea Princess, I'm bringing him on the Golden Princess when I sail. I have list of Souvenirs to purchase for friends, am going to enjoy exploring the ship, sampling Cocktails and taking photos. Have costed as thoroughly as I can, the Princess website is most useful, only the Gift Services section doesn't convert to AUD$ prices, so I've divided USD$ by 4 and multiplied by 5-saw the On Board and Casino credits were a multiple of 1.25 so worked out how to do the US/AUD currency conversion. I knew those bullying nuns insisting on arithmetic had a good reason to be so strict!

algriff Posted September 23, 2015 #22 Share Posted September 23, 2015 Last year on Royal Caribbean you could take your onboard credit and turn it in for cash at the casino..I think they kept 10 percent. Can you do the same on Princess?

Astro Flyer Posted September 24, 2015 #25 Share Posted September 24, 2015 Can you use it for shore excursions? You can reserve shore excursions in advance & during your cruise use OBC to pay for shore excursions.
