Why wait for anyone. You are on holidays. Authorities and customs like to make people wait so when you are on a cruise ship its the perfect time to get revenge on them. Adopt a leisurely lifestyle and make people wait on you. If you have to clear customs on a ship wait until they call your name over the pa system and turn up. That way you are guaranteed not to queue and chances are the immigration official has been waiting on you. You do not have to waste any of your precious time lining up painfully in a queue of people:D:D:D:D:D:D

Some folks simply could care less if they inconvenience others. It is just typical of the "me me me" attitude that has become common these days. We have often warned (on multiple boards of CC) about potential problems with any back-to-back cruise that has it's turn around day in a USA port. The US CBP "Zero Out' process leaves everyone at the mercy of even a single passenger who does not follow protocol.

The solution is simple. Passengers who do not follow the reporting rules should be tossed off the ship, not be allowed to continue on their 2nd cruise, and forfeit all the money they paid for that cruise. If the cruise lines follow this simple policy, there will no longer be a problem :).

That may be too extreme. I would suggest that anyone over 30 minutes late without a valid excuse should be escorted to the customs clearing. They would be the first passengers cleared by customs. Immediately after clearing, they would be escorted from the theater and off the ship to the terminal.

Yes, I would clear them first and once they have been escorted from the theater, a senior crew member would announce to the remaining passengers awaiting clearance that these passengers would be held in the terminal and restricted from boarding the ship until after all other passengers were boarded. These passengers would then be escorted to their muster station and kept there until after muster was completed. (If they're late to customs, they'll be late to muster.)

Nothing like public humiliation to correct bad behavior.

Great idea. :D:D

I like the idea of closing and locking the theater doors and making the errant pax deboard the ship. They would have to go through the usual government checks and then re-enter the terminal and board with the new pax. Meanwhile once they have left the ship, the pax in the theater could be processed and allowed to continue their vacation.

Some people are just plain inconsiderate. The public shaming that these pax received was well earned. The one pax giving the bird showed how extremely inconsiderate slob this one person was. Hopefully many remembered what that pax looked like so that (s)he could be ignored the rest of the cruise because I do not imagine their attitude changed.

The "me mentality" rears its ugly head again. I have been on ships held up by people getting back late, people who don't come back to a tour bus on time holding everyone else up, etc. the list goes on...

I always find that waving to lazy late pax who are now stranded on the dock as the ship sails off to be most enjoyable. Karma at it's best!

I'd support that idea.

Nice idea. Here's another one. How about punching holes in their sea pass card and making them wear it on a lanyard?

ROFL! Now you are going too far with the humiliation. And they should also be forced to wear Princess Robes around the ship. That would be a double humiliation!

In Transit passengers were instructed to report to the Princess Theater AT 10:00am and to bring your passport and customs declaration. Could not have been more clear.

I wonder why they now want the customs declaration.

o You are not considered to be entering the country from a customs viewpoint until you are leaving the ship permanently.

o The customs law says the duty-free exemption can only be used once every 31 days. By turning in the form on turn-around day, that means you cannot use it at the end of your cruise (although it is unlikely Customs would ever figure that out).

I always get off the ship during a B2B, with luggage, and bring items to my car- liquor, dirty clothing, purchases, etc. I fill out a customs card each trip and have questioned them on occasion and each time they tell me that they don't care that I remove things. We also never go over our allowance for the 31 day period but I seriously doubt if they add up each card. They also never ask if I have liquor (which I do) but it never goes over the total amount legally allowed.

It was the first time we had been required to file a customs declaration on turn around day. Not sure why the change in procedure. We reported what the had purchased the first 7 days and upon disembarkation after the second 7 days we reported what the had purchased during that period.

It seems that the stewards give everyone a customs card on B2B even though they don't collect them when going through customs with the ships group.

If you go through earlier on your own I suspect they would be looking for one to be filled out each time you depart the ship?

Suppose you were to leave the ship on your own early in the day, turn in a customs card, return to the ship and then go back out again. Would they make you turn in a second card for each trip?

That is exactly what they did on our cruise. With the turn around instructions for the In-Transit passengers was a Customs Declaration; during the gathering in the Princess Theater the morning of turn around, the ships officers continued to announce that a declaration form had to be completed and turned into Customs. Never had to do this before on turn around but no big deal either.

I'm getting the impression that Princess is tired of them changing the rules form time to time & giving everyone a card to fill out. If they collect it, fine. If not don't worry about it.

They indeed collected the forms. Again, not sure why the change but easy enough to comply.

Princess cruises held DH and I up for over 7 hours. Four at the Sheraton Hotel, and 3 at the cruise terminal stuck on a bus with no water or toilet facilities. People on the bus were about ready to riot. I stepped out of the bus and confronted the driver. I gave her 2 choices. Either drive us over to the terminal or I call 911 stating that we are being held hostage. I never saw a bus driver board the bus and move it. We were on the ship in less than 10 minutes. So, while passengers can be inconsiderate of others, so can the cruise line. That experience opened my eyes to never do another Princess Transfer. Super Shuttle is what we use now and it's much cheaper, faster, and reliable than Princess.

We had a similar experience. Never again.
