jrmende63 Posted April 16, 2016 #701 Share Posted April 16, 2016 aren't those junior suites on the back of the ship directly above beleros? Ours is on Deck 9 forward.
Merion_Mom Posted April 16, 2016 #702 Share Posted April 16, 2016 We had an Ocean view with obstructed view. We got a Junior Suite for 150.00 total. That is a fabulous deal! Enjoy! I have been calling every week to see if they have any available for my June cruise. I have not had any luck yet. Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app Any what? Any upsell offers? Merion_Mom Posted April 16, 2016 #704 Share Posted April 16, 2016 Balconies. Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app There are no "balcony cabins" on the Empress of the Seas. The categories jump from ocean view to junior suite. If you want a cabin with a balcony, you have to have a JS, OS or RS.

If you want a cabin with a balcony, you have to have a JS, OS or RS. That is technically true but it is just a matter of marketing. According to Royal Caribbean's own deck plans, a JS on the Empress is 112 to 155 sq. ft. That is smaller than any balcony stateroom on any other Royal Caribbean ship. Similarly, an OS on the Empress is 184 to 238 sq ft. Compare those numbers with 214 sq ft for a cat D on the Freedom and 317 sq ft for a JS on the Freedom and one could conclude that there is only one cabin on the Empress that should really be called a suite, the single 587 sq ft RS. The cabin size of Empress, regardless of the label on the cabin is small. The ship was built in a time, when cabins were built smaller. A JS is a JS, and then you need to look at the cabin dimensions to determine if you feel it is worth the expense for the space/accommodations you are getting for the price you are paying. Perhaps but, to paraphrase Benjamin Franklin, calling a 112 sq ft room a JS is rather like calling a steer a bull. It may be grateful for the honor but it still doesn't meet the dictionary definition of a suite: "a group of rooms occupied as a unit". jrmende63 Posted April 16, 2016 #715 Share Posted April 16, 2016 Double points people! Not too shabby. Well we don't get the double points for the JS due to not paying full price for the JS ( it was an upsell). But that is ok. We get to sail the Empress when we wanted and in a slightly bigger room and a balcony.

Merion_Mom Posted April 20, 2016 #717 Share Posted April 20, 2016 The email: Please click here to acknowledge receipt of this message This is an important message regarding your upcoming cruise. Dear Guest: We're sorry to announce the cancellation of your Empress of the Seas sailing. Modernizing Empress of the Seas for her return to the Royal Caribbean International fleet began in late February. As work has progressed, we learned that more significant infrastructure and physical improvements across the ship’s multiple galleys and provisioning areas were needed to meet our high standards. We decided that instead of simply repairing the five galleys, we would completely rebuild them, starting from scratch with entirely new infrastructure and all new equipment, at a cost of $10 million. This additional time means it will be necessary to cancel your Empress of the Seas cruise. Please contact us at 1-888-281-9344 by April 30th for reaccommodation. Refunds will be issued to all guests that have not reaccommodated by this date. Guests who rebook will receive a per stateroom onboard credit: $100 onboard credit per standard stateroom $200 onboard credit for suites If you booked air transportation through Royal Caribbean International, you will receive a full refund. If you did not purchase air transportation through Royal Caribbean International, we will pay your airline change fee, up to $200 for domestic and $300 for international flights. We ask that guests please send a copy of the receipt for the change fee to: Fax: 305-603-0044 Attn: Re-accommodation Desk – SHIP DATE or email to RoyalGuestRelations@rccl.com Should you be unable to rebook on one of the alternative sailings and would prefer to cancel, Royal Caribbean International will provide you with a full refund of your cruise fare paid. Cruise fare refunds will be automatically processed back to the original form of payment. Please allow four to six weeks for all transactions to be processed. Also, if you booked air transportation through Royal Caribbean International, and choose to cancel, you will receive a full refund. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, and hope you understand that more time was needed to ensure Empress of the Seas meets the standards for quality our guests expect from Royal Caribbean. Sincerely, Royal Caribbean International
