Casino money from your onboard credit

I don't know if the roulette game has a limit, but my suggestion would be just to get all the obc in chips, bet half on black, half on red, and hope green doesn't come up. All one hand.

Not quite right. Your winnings, if you don't hit green, come back half cashable and half promotional. Then you have to keep going till you get rid of all the promotional ones.

Like others we are sad to see the old way go too. We never took any of the money home. It mostly went for extra tips to the crew who did a great job.

Here is a question: when you ask for $100 at the casino cage - do say that you want cash out OBC? I don't think cashier can see you account and confirm if you have OBC or not.

The cashier in the casino can absolutely see if you have OBC and determine if it is refundable or non-refundable. They use the same computer system that is available at the front desk.

Once you are out of your refundable OBC, they will give you the option of cash or credits.

Wonder if we were on some of the same legs -- we boarded on April 17th and were on for 35 nights. We have yet to return home (I am typing this from Iceland) so haven't made the adjustment to home life yet. Always a surprise when I realize that dishes just don't clear themselves from the dining table following a meal.

We were on the April 4th cruise ... mighty special.

We do gamble and even though we really didn't win much in the casino, we had fun and were treated well by the casino host.

We've been home almost 6 weeks now and getting the final plans made for our next cruise. It is just torture being on land for so long.

Not true on the Summit. My wife and I used $350 promotional chips doing that very thing. I bet red, she bet black. 0 came up only once. Cashed in $340.

Did they give you any looks like that since you guys are obviously betting both red and black at the same time?

I don't think the roulette guy really gives a hoot. He's just there to ensure the game is played by the table rules.

On our last cruise, we had a few of those $5 match play Elite coupons. My wife played black, and I played red. We won a few bucks. No big deal.

They're watching the promo chips very carefully on the Summit as of last week. DH played roulette with them and I played the slots with promo credit. Whenever I won (DH lost :( ) I went to the cage with my printed ticket of the earnings and got cash back. Somehow, I managed to lose all of the promo credit I set aside to gamble with by the end of the week (big surprise).

I am not sure when you last sailed but this policy is fairly recent. We are just off the Connie (last week) and that was the case, I should have clarified in that post but had previously mentioned it.:o

So what happens if you have refundable OBC, please? The exchange rate offered by Celebrity at present is not that attractive but it still avoids us having to carry too much cash for my husband to play the slots.

You can use the OBC for Casino promotional chips or credit to play with, any left over OBC that is refundable at the end of the cruise will be returned to the credit card on the sea board account.

An on board credit from Celebrity is not and was never meant to be a lower fare....it is an amount to be spent on board on "you pick what you want" items....it is a reduction in the total amount you might have spent on the ship. Somehow, folks have gotten the idea that it was essentially a discount....no, if it was a discount, you would have seen it offered as a discount.

Obviously, a $300 on board credit doesn't really cost celebrity $300. If you buy something, celebrity gets a cut of it; if you purchase a specialty meal, there is a profit built in for Celebrity. If Celebrity just gave you the $300, then it costs celebrity $300....and that would essentially be a discount.

Sorry you can't take advantage of loose Celebrity accounting any more....but this is the way On Board Credits should always have been implemented.

Celebrity really has no stake in OBC's given by TA's so those are refundable directly to you if you don't spend them. The TA paid $300 and it costs Celebrity nothing to just pass that on to you if you choose not to spend it. In that case, it really is a discount offered by your TA...not by Celebrity.

Besides that $300 OBC does not cost Celebrity $300, we are paying higher cruise price to get it. So they benefit more than $300. I know- it is all creative marketing, kinda free with purchase....

To confirm my understanding, if I ask for $300 in OBC, I'll get promotional chips from the cage. I'll take those chips to a table and gamble for a few minutes, those promo chips will circulate out of my hand and (hopefully) be replaced with normal chips, which I can then cash out.

$30/hand x 10 hands and I'm free and clear to cash out what remains.

Am I understanding that correctly?

We have $1300 in OBC credit to burn next month on our Mediterranean cruise and I'd like to cash some out.

Thx!

Per recent reports, the only way to get rid of the promotional chips is to lose them.

Bet $30 and win, you will keep the $30 promotional chips that you bet, and be paid $30 in regular chips that you can cash out.

That actually sounds right.

But just a reminder, only non-refundable obc is turned into promotional chips. For your refundable obc, you can turn that into cash or it will be returned to your credit card.

My only other option would be to buy something onboard that can be easily sold at home...an ipad for example.

If you were to get $200 in promo chips using your obc and bet $100 on red and $100 on black, then if the ball landed on red they would take your chips on black and give you back your $100 promo chips on red along with $100 in regular cashable chips - rather than take all of your promo chips and give you back $200 in regular chips

So the best way would be to bet smaller amounts of promo chips, pocket the winnings of regular chips and keep playing the promo chips until they were all gone.

However, with 0 and 00 out there, the roulette wheel on average has an effective "commission" of 2/38 or 5.26%. Hence you would be better off just paying the 5% at the cage to get regular chips!

On the other hand, if you know how to play craps, the effective "commission" is below 5% so it would be better to use the promos at craps than paying the 5% at the cage.

Correct,

the strategy is to just keep betting with the promo chips and put the winnings separately so you can cash them out.:D

You can only do that if you have a cash account and it is at the end of the cruise.

Yes that's correct...you don't need to go the cage, they will do it at the table.....as long as your seen to be playing they don't care.

Everyone had different coloured chips on the table I was playing.

Maybe he just got lucky but DH was able to get $100 in cash from the cashier on the Equinox last week. We still had non-refundable OBC, so am not too sure how this happened, especially since they have signs saying you can't cash out money. Anyway, DH played for a while, made some money, then lost some, but returned about $20 plus. He wanted to go back again but didn't get a chance, anyway by then we only had our TA's OBC left, which would go back on our card.

Yes, perhaps, but it seems differing ships may have slightly different policies on OBC and cashing out and as always the crew may have different applications of the policy.:D

Just off the Solstice. Concur using the Match coupons if you have them. The roulette guy was concerned about wife and I paying red/black\. The pit boss said it was OK. Had 250 stock credit , played four hands and walk away with 670 dollars.

In 5 minutes I walked back to cage and cash out. I kind of smirked that I was willing to take the 250 -5% in the old days. Took the 670 and ran.

How did each of you bet? $125 each on the first spin, one of you black and then other red? One of you won and one lost leaving you with $125 of the promotion chips and $125 in winning cashable chips. Did you split the $125 in promotion chips and do the same black/red bet again?

Did you place a insurance bet on green?

Exactly. I split the 125 red/black. Took the winnings and then played the 125 again. 4 hands later had 670 with the 5 dollar match play. I did NOT do insurance on green. Read the numbers board and played the odds.
