To the poster above, all I have to say to you is horse hockey!

Obviously this line is not a good fit for me.

I never would have booked this had I known I am spending a lot of time by myself.

Not my goal to be by myself so much when cruising.

I had no idea there would be so many gambling or drinking activities on board.

Rather than risk eating by myself at dinner tonight, I have chosen to eat in my stateroom.

This a very unpleasant cruise for me and lecturing me on what I should do won't help.

Many non English speaking people on this cruise too.

I honestly can't wait to get off this ship.

I am feeling socially isolated, having no interest in many activities and do not know how I could have found out about before booking this cruise.

Even at the meet and mingle people were not meeting and mingling :(.

Have a NICE DAY! :)

I often sail Celebrity and always sail solo, don't drink, smoke or gamble and ALWAYS have a fabulous time. I would say I am not the most outgoing nor the most introverted but always go with a good attitude and don't sweat the small stuff. Considering today is the anniversary of 9/11 we should all remember what is important and what isn't.

By your comments, BTW, can I assume that there is no drinking and no casino on Crystal? And what do you think you would be paying on a comparable cruise on Crystal? In my experience Crystal is at least 2-3x as expensive and usually for less nights.

Glass half empty vs. glass half full...

I so agree! Great post. But I do hope that the last few days of this cruise are going better for haikou. Hopefully it isn't a negative attitude which is causing her problems meeting other passengers.

We're also aboard this voyage and having a wonderful time (not to contradict the issues Haikou has/is having).

...

The stop in Dutch Harbor was pure pleasure. There is sufficient time to see just about everything of interest and the local community is so welcoming.

...

This summer we took the Tustamena (which is one of our Alaska state ferries, and also known as the "Trusty Tusty") from Kodiak to Dutch Harbor. Spent three nights on the Tustamena stopping at some small fishing communities (one had thirty residents) and enjoying the spectacular scenery. Then we spent three nights in Unalaska before flying out (which was an adventure in its own right). On a beautiful day the scenery around Unalaska is incredible with breathtaking views from Ft. Mears. Hope you were able to visit the WW II museum and the Russian Orthodox Church of the Holy Ascension. We want to book this itinerary for the fall of 2018, and hope it also includes a stop at Dutch Harbor.

This is our first Celebrity cruise following about 25 on Princess, so naturally I have been doing a lot of comparison. .....

While I have read that Princess has limited their smoking venues, have you noticed any differences regarding smoking. We are non-smokers which is one of the reasons we gravitate toward Celebrity.

We are on this cruise and couldn't be more pleased. The ship is in amazing good condition for an older ship. Some worn upholstery but what would a person expect. The maintenance is outstanding and always ongoing. Our room steward is very good and always willing to provide any service we ask for. We have select dining and have a permanent reservation with a very good waiter and asst. waiter. The dinners in the dining room have been very good. The staff on this ship is the friendliest we have encountered on any of our 8 Celebrity cruises.

We have enjoyed this ship and cruise as much as any we have been on. We have 2 family verandas with 2 people in each one. What a great way to travel. We couldn't be happier with the ship and the cruise

Just got home from this cruise and had a fantastic adventure. Totally agree with your comments

Glad to hear the positives. We are booked for the May 2017 return, Tokyo to Vancouver. My main question is about pre-stays in Tokyo. Not sure if those on the Sept cruise are staying a few days after in Tokyo. But would like to hear a bit on that.

We usually stay a few days on our own in ports before the cruises, especially one such as this with long distance flying, but since the last time I was in Japan was many many years ago and I came in on a Navy Carrier, I'd like to use Celebrity options.

Any info would be nice to get.

We've been on many of the Millinium class ships and love them, especially the T-spa pool. And have always had a good SR and any issues were delt with.

We stayed in Tokyo for 3 days post cruise. We rented a 2 bedroom apt on the 31st floor of the Kachidoki View Tower. This is a great apt and a wonderful location. The Kachidoki metro station is in the basement of the tower. There is also a 7-11, a supermarket and many restauraunts nearby. We also contacted a guide through the Tokyo Free Guide website which was a wonderful day. I found the apt on the Tripadvisor website.

It sure beats staying in a hotel.

Hello,

I noticed your location says calabasas....is it the one in the SF Valley? if so we are neighbors. I am in Woodland Hills.

I walked around parts of Dutch Harbor today and the surrounding mountains are greener than I expected-quite lovely and imho worth the wait to get on the bus to the drop off point at the Safeway market.I saw two seal (sea lions in this area?) heads pop up -adorable :) I was told if I walked down past a rocky beach in the distance that whales tend to congregate in the shallows there but I didn't want to test the time it would take to get back to one of the last buses before 2 went off to pick up school children and thus increase the wait time to catch it back to the ship, so I didn't get to see any whales.

Food really has been quite good.I see no need to pay for the premium restaurants if one is on a tight budget as I am.

My inside solo stateroom is quite roomy. My only wish is that these non luxury lines had shower bathtub combos instead of just showers.

IMcontinue to have issues with the remote control, and had to call them once again to get the interactive part working again.I could not get my room service order to go through today and wish it was a. Little more user friendly.Sail away in about an hour. I have not used the jacuzzis or pools yet as they have been too crowded most days.I will have to go late afternoon until just before my. Late seating at 830pm , as most people are choosing to eat at the early seating 6pm

I have never had an issue with the upselling. We just don't make eye contact..easy. You have a choice to engage or not.

Also folks don't want to listen to negativity while trying to enjoy a cruise. If the OP is sharing all of this on board then she won't make friends

Sorry your cruise was not up to your expectations.

We did a Japan and China cruise on Millennium last Fall and it was one of our best. We had no issues except the old safe battery was low once and the attendant came and fix it, no big deal.

We had such a wonderful cruise on the 15 night crossing, that about half way through it we booked the next sailing (Tokyo to Shanghai). So glad we decided to stay on board because the extra Japanese ports covered on the second voyage have been wonderful. We'll finally have to leave Millie in Shanghai after 26 nights on board, our longest ever on the same ship.

We were also on this cruise, and thought that the entertainment, lectures (especially Milos) and service were the best we have had on Celebrity in quite some time. We did 1 private tour and 2 ship's tours and were very pleased with all of them, and found Japan to be a very interesting country to visit.

Thank you, all of you recent posters for balancing this thread with your positive posts. How lovely to be able to decide mid cruise that you want to stay on for the next one and that there was room too. We were on for 45 days this spring and yes, they had to pry me off the ship too. I love cruising.:)

We returned last night from Tokyo. We too loved the cruise for the same reasons and thought Millennium was in excellent condition.

We toured Kyoto, Hakone and Tokyo independently after the cruise and the whole experience, cruise and touring was amazing.

I would cruise on Millennium again without question, and hope to see more of Japan in the future.

Cruise CRITIC means just that. I don't read cruise critic to read posts/reviews from members who are cheerleaders for a particular line. You know the people who basically say love it or leave it Those reviews are not at all helpful to any of us when we are about to try a cruise line for the first time. .And even when guests did not have a good experience on my favored cruise line, there is no need to take it so personally as to try and invalidate another guest's experiences.

We are doing Tokyo to Vancouver in May on Millie. We are really looking forward to it. We have one of the sweet 16 cabins. My question to anyone who has done this cruise, is what is the weather like. Wondering what to pack. It will be summer in Vancouver and Las Vegas (we have 3 nights in Vegas on the way home) and I am wondering what to pack. Shorts and t-shirts or jeans and jumpers?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

We did the 9/11/2015 crossing.

Very cold out of Vancouver. No heat in stateroom, Aqua class also.

Vancouver boarding took over 3 hours with no help for handicapped. They blamed it on the port of Vancouver. However being very well travelled in Canada, I knew that the port only rented the space and it was the company Celebrity hired to manage the check in. Beware.

There was an enormous group on the ship that seized open space and so no seats in the ocean view. If made the crossing not so pleasant. Plus all the lines on and off the ship.

The changeover of airconditioning to heat to airconditioning just did not happen.

The tours of Japan were all religious and nothing else. They also ran behind schedule and lunch came at 3:30. No water. Bring your own.

Aqua food was sometimes very very good and sometimes we passed the meatloaf to eat in the mdr.

We had a good friend with us that had written authorization to eat with us in Blu. The manager of Blu said to this man that the letter was a fraud. It was sent directly from celebrity and signed. He did not care.

A huge insult. This man, an attorney was associated with a candidate running for president some time ago and retired to become a police gold shield. Not even a minor apology.

Was the second worst cruise on celebrity. 28 great ones. 2 very bad ones - both 2015.

good luck........we had none...shame....

We're booked on the Millenium transpacific cruise from Vancouver to Yokohama on Sept. 8. It seems that Celebrity is not offering any excursion when we're Dutch Harbour, Alaska. Is this correct? I would have preferred Petropavlovsk......

Not much to see there...was not even a restaurant to get fresh king crab.

read my above entry...very tough cruise..very rough weather just north of Japan.

The Norwegian Rat served king crab and they were packed. Also, we saw eagles and whales and enjoyed a walk down to the fishing boats. We spent some time in the museum.
