Basic Poll: Would you report someone smoking on their balcony?

Are we back in elementary school? For all that say yes are you going to police the serenity area, the chair hogs and the dress code in the dining room? I just believe either all rules are enforced or none. You simply cannot pick and choose.

 

Carnival should equally enforce all of their rules but I certainly can pick and choose which I want to bother reporting. Your analogy is equivalent to saying I shouldn't support murderers being sent to prison because I speed on the highway. :rolleyes:

 

A neighboring balcony on which someone is smoking is infringing on my enjoyment of the balcony I paid for and I did so with the expectation that it would be a smoke-free area.

As you know from the other thread I am a smoker that follows the smoking rules.

 

With that said I would not report it.

 

Like others I don't see the safety risk and don't feel the need to police this issue.

 

I'll leave that to those who feel the inherent need to police others 😎

It takes 5 minutes to smoke a cigarette. Stay inside for 5 minutes. A lot of people don't know they can't smoke on the balcony. Hear it every cruise. Steward lets them know if butts or ashtray are found.

 

No I wouldn't say anything to GS. I might tell the person about the rule and charge.

 

There ought to be another place inside besides the casino to smoke.

That's good. My issue with it wasn't rule following because I don't think it's my job to police others. But I would be unhappy on MY balcony smelling YOUR smoke, so that was my issue.

Smuggle all the drinks you want, and break any other rules and I see no reason to get involved because I'm not directly impacted. Smoking is a different ballgame.

If I just get an occasional whiff, no. Why bother? But if it's a chronic issue where every time I'm sitting in my balcony I can smell it and it lingers, and It consistently affects my enjoyment, I may be more inclined to report it.

For some people, others' smoking on their balconies, prohibit them from using their balcony. I'm sure you have things you would report people for. Do you have a set dining time? If you showed up for your table/time and found me and my family sitting at your table the first night, would you just go away and eat at the buffet? No, you'd tell Carnival to get me out of YOUR table. What if I was in front of you in the buffet and (sorry this is gross) my child was licking his fingers and pulling food out with his hands. I'm thinking that you wouldn't just suck it up. If my actions/breaking of the rules had a significant impact on your ability to enjoy your cruise, you would or SHOULD let someone know so that they can fix it.

 

Someone smoking on their balcony wouldn't normally bother me much, but my mom has emphasema so she would not be able to sit on her balcony. She avoids the casino because, the rules allow people to smoke there. You absolutely can choose which rules you want to worry about! That actually impacts how Carnival creates/removes/modifies rules as necessary.

How is CCL to enforce the issue if they aren't told that there is an issue? There is a difference between a rule being broken in a public space where the crew can notice it and a rule being broken in a private space.

 

I just lost part of a lung to lung cancer so if I cannot use my balcony because someone is smoking than yes, I will call guest services. (And I will no longer be using the casino, although my use has been very limited in any case.)

 

And I do agree that all of the rules need to be enforced.

I am not a smoker, but I wouldn't report it....it's not like you are in a closet, you are out on a balcony where the wind is dissipating smoke immediately....to many people like to concern themselves what other people are doing. Be like Elsa...."Let It Go"

I am now a non-smoker, I quit almost three months ago, but I wouldn't report someone else. That's just me. For the record, when I smoked, I stuck to the rules and only smoked in designated smoking areas whether on a cruise ship or every day life at home.

 

One of the main reasons I wouldn't report someone else is because you can get a whiff of smoke while out on a balcony of a ship, but you can't always be sure where it's coming from, unless it's someone on a balcony right next door and you can actually see them smoking it. I think I know which thread the OP is talking about being a "spirited debate" regarding balcony smoking...didn't someone, a non-smoker, post (post #4, to be specific) that they were wrongly accused of smoking on the balcony and reported by someone in a neighboring cabin just because the poster happened to be on the balcony all the time?

 

To each his own. I'm not one to "tell" on others. It's how I was raised, my mother could not stand a tattletale and the tattler got in as much trouble as the person (usually sibling) we tattled on. There is no right or wrong answer and if someone does want to report it, that is totally up to them. As someone else mentioned, anyone who pays for a balcony should be able to enjoy it.

I do agree with the Serenity deck. I personally don't like your little snowflakes nearly as much as you do. I see parents all the time come to the Serenity and have their kids come to see them when they want/need something....go see your kids as opposed to having them come see you

Yes I would report.

 

I have severe asthma as does my youngest daughter. Even just a few sniffs of cigarette smoke is enough to set off an asthma attack. The smokers get the entire casino, I would love to be able to go in and use it but it is entirely off limits due to the smoke. Is that fair? No, but I bought my ticket with full awareness that that would be the case. I do expect my balcony though to be free of smoke, and that is money I spent with that assumption.

 

I was on the magic last year and ran into cigarette smoke while on my balcony, quite frequently. I would have reported it if I could tell where it was coming from. But I didn't stand out there long enough to even try, as I didn't really care to get an asthma attack.

 

I don't care what vice you have or do, as long as it doesn't impact me or my paid for space. Smoke like a chimney in the casino, I don't care. Just please don't do it on the balcony.
