mame42 Posted July 13, 2016 #26 Share Posted July 13, 2016 Perhaps Seattle will send the K back where she came from to correct some of the "designed by a committee that has never been on a cruise" issues such as crowded seating and noise.

ravinblue Posted July 13, 2016 #28 Share Posted July 13, 2016 The HAL website shows a 14 day Baltic cruise 9/3/17 - 9/17/17 as the last posted cruise for the Koningsdam until a 12/20/17 Caribbean cruise. Nothing posted for 9/17 - 12/20. We were considering the transatlantic that was formerly posted as leaving Rome on 10/25/17, so I am anxious to see the new schedule. RuthC Posted July 13, 2016 #30 Share Posted July 13, 2016 wOoudl you pleaase explain about keep an eye on ""s: ship schedules? Thanks. :) If either or both the Veendam and Maasdam were to leave the fleet, those schedules would need covering. The Koningsdam, if remaining unscheduled, could be available to pick up some of the slack. My understanding, though, is that the new Koningsdam schedule is to be published today or tomorrow. sppunk Posted July 13, 2016 #32 Share Posted July 13, 2016 Frank, Would you pleaase explain about keep an eye on ""s: ship schedules? Thanks. :) I'm not Frank but my post and his are the same essentially. I have a good feeling this move is in advance of the S ships leaving the fleet a few months before the new one coming onboard. They won't have the new ship on without eliminating the S ones which are very likely losing money hand over fist.
Tampa Girl Posted July 13, 2016 #33 Share Posted July 13, 2016 My guess would be to keep an eye on schedules for other ships (S class) in 2017 and see if their schedules suddenly stop. I think that they already have. I have been looking for the 2017 fall TA cruises. Prior to yesterday, there were four or five (I think). Yesterday there were only two. The Oosterdam was one, and I don't remember the other, but it may have been either the Koningsdam or the Prinsendam.
frankc98376 Posted July 13, 2016 #34 Share Posted July 13, 2016 (edited) Frank, Would you pleaase explain about keep an eye on ""s: ship schedules? Thanks. :) Meant to keep an eye on the schedules in case the last 2 have been sold or are leaving. Nothing I've heard just thinking about possible reasons to move inventory around. IMO it's no longer an "if" with S class it's "when and where" Edited July 13, 2016 by frankc98376
cruiselovers20 Posted July 13, 2016 #35 Share Posted July 13, 2016 Our TA forwarded us the letter HAL sent them and us re. the cancellation of the Konningsdam Oct 12 2017 cruise. They offered us 2 cruises for the same price we booked but they are in conflict with a Prinsendam cruise we also have booked. So - it is a cancel for us. RuthC Posted July 13, 2016 #36 Share Posted July 13, 2016 Our TA forwarded us the letter HAL sent them and us re. the cancellation of the Konningsdam Oct 12 2017 cruise. They offered us 2 cruises for the same price we booked but they are in conflict with a Prinsendam cruise we also have booked. So - it is a cancel for us. Consider this: If you can find different cruises of the same number of days, something you are interested in that doesn't conflict with the Prinsendam cruise, see if HAL will allow that substitution for the 2 cruises they offered. I've had a couple of cruises cancelled out from under me, and I wasn't interested in what they wanted to give instead. I found other cruises that were comparable, asked if they would give me those, and they did. Worth a try.
SetAnOpenCourse Posted July 14, 2016 #37 Share Posted July 14, 2016 Do you think it may have to do with North Americans not wanting to fly to Europe and visit because of perceived terrorist threats? Maybe HAL thinks they can fill the ship quicker by keeping it closer to where their customer base is. Roz Perhaps for the same reasons Europeans also prefer an alternate region. mkl55 Posted July 14, 2016 #39 Share Posted July 14, 2016 My itinerary is showing a revision on my HAL account page. Original itinerary was: Revised 9-28-17 At Sea Barcelona 9-29-17 Civitavecchia Palma de Mallorca, Spain New cruise days added: 9-30-17 Sea Day 10-1-17 Ajaccio, Corsica, France 10-2-17 Livorno (Florence/Pisa) Italy 10-3-17 Civitavecchia There is still no communication either from HAL or from my TA, nor are any updated K'dam itineraries posted. Perhaps they are trying to sort the people who have been negatively impacted first. Apparently there is a new fairy in town. The Port Fairy has been most generous to us with these changes but I fear she may be a fickle one. I hope those whose plans have been disrupted find a satisfactory resolution and the schedule moves forward without further disruption. Stay tuned and I will update as any news arrives. Thank you to all who posted as it certainly helps to be informed before one is officially informed.
mkl55 Posted July 14, 2016 #40 Share Posted July 14, 2016 Oh, dear. Formatting got muddled when I posted. Let's try this. 9-28 was changed from a sea day to a stop in Barcelona. The 29th was changed to Palma de Mallorca Spain from the original disembark port of Rome. I think the added days came out ok. Sorry if any confusion was caused. Maybe HAL thinks they can fill the ship quicker by keeping it closer to where their customer base is. Roz Add Europeans choosing other holiday areas as well. Other cruise lines (Aida, TUI, other could have as well) have redeployed ships already this season from the Eastern Mediterranean. Aida has begun to book two and four day cruises from Kiel to stimulate their market. I believe that could be the reason of redeploying the Koningsdam. For example, this year's 12-Night Greek and Turkish Treasures is barely 25% booked.
