redpear1 Posted January 19, 2017 #7 Share Posted January 19, 2017 We to were on this cruise and spent 3 days precruise in Santiago and 3 days post cruise in Buenos Aires. It was a truly memorable cruise, the weather in Antarctica was beyond good it was warmer there than it was here in Ottawa during our time there. I'm still trying to process all that I saw during this adventure but I would say that anyone that might have the opportunity to take this Voyage would, I think consider this a cruise of a lifetime. SilvertoGold Posted January 19, 2017 #12 Share Posted January 19, 2017 OUTSTANDING!!! Thank you SO much for posting the link. Our favorite cruise, by far, so it is especially memorable to read about your trip and see the photos which are marvelously varied. Hope Bay did not disappoint with the breaching penguins! That was a highlight for us and they stayed around for 4 hours on Christmas Day. This is the clearest weather down the west coast and through the Antarctic that we've seen and you were fortunate to see so much wild life! Really a perfect trip! Many thanks! We did this journey in 2012 (Prinsendam) and missed most of the Antarctic scenery due to cloud cover. Wow, we sure missed some major scenery. We'll try again !!!;)
sinigord Posted January 19, 2017 Author #16 Share Posted January 19, 2017 Food was excellent, we ate in the MDR every night at 8pm except for one trip each to pinnacle and Canaletto which were also excellent. Because we had the late dinner we didn't go to the entertainment, so can't comment on that. I think there was only one night I had trouble choosing a main course and opted for a veggie option, but that's more to do with being picky than lack of options. sinigord Posted January 19, 2017 Author #17 Share Posted January 19, 2017 Ship seemed in reasonable condition, there were certainly a few areas where things were worn and in need of repair. Our cabin was fine, toilet got clogged twice, but that seems about average based on previous experience. The shops and casino seemed quiet, wife wanted to play poker, but not enough interest. I did however win the slot tournament, starting from last place. Room cards seemed to be a big issue, saw many people getting new ones printed and commenting this was the 3rd or 4th time. St Pete Cruiser Posted January 20, 2017 #20 Share Posted January 20, 2017 Wonderful pictures of Antarctica. I did the Zaandam last spring from BA around the Cape to Vaparaiso without doing the Antarctica extension, so I see now what we missed! Weather always plays a big role in any trip. We had better conditions in the Chilean fjords and it was a wonderful venture, but now I would like to go back and do the "whole" cruise. Thanks for sharing your photo review. StLouisCruisers Posted January 20, 2017 #25 Share Posted January 20, 2017 We were on the Seabourn Quest over the Christmas/New Years' holidays cruising Antarctica and South Georgia Island. On Dec. 30 we were enjoying a "champagne and caviar on ice party" on deck after leaving Torgerson Island and viewing the Palmer Research Station. Suddenly we heard the horn blow and when checking over the railing, I saw the Zaandam passing by in the channel. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon and spirits were high. I thought you'd like a photo of us looking at you as you were looking at us! Enjoy!
