Cabin Recategorization Coming

Recommended Posts

As the nothing that I can do about the situation, it's up to me to figure out if I want to continue traveling on RCI. I maintain that some of their changes make sense to me. Right now there's a lot of supposition about how easy/confusing it will be. Perhaps a better option would be to direct your concerns to RCI? Surely they would try to answer any questions you may have.

Glad it makes "sense" to you and you're ok with it....Many of us aren't. It's always been easy to book our JS (20+) RCI cruises and even to easily change locations when something better became available..I don't think this will be the case any longer.

You mean not post our opinions here -- where's the fun in that?:eek: The first time I have problems booking a cruise online when trying to use the recategorization, you'd better believe I will direct my concerns to RCI. :D

That is my fear, as well. It reminds me of AA's recent announcement that they are streamlining their boarding process by now having 9 boarding categories, up from 5. That is 3.33 minutes per category. Should be fun to watch!

When I saw the slide with new cabin types I immediately thought of AA's new boarding too, although I do think the past boarding announcements could get very annoying with all the different sub-types for priority boarding.

I remember years ago when United tried to implement "Wilma" boarding. Window/Middle/Aisle (seats) board in that order. It had a lot of problems and was discontinued. I'm looking forward to AA's new boarding system, but first, I'll have to book an AA flight. I can't even remember the last time I had no future flights booked on them.

This sounds like it will be harder in general to book a room and prevent switching cabins to a better location. As a non TA I will have to call and ask how much for this particular cabin, how much for that one....and decide if a few bucks either way is worth that cabin.

I used to just price an E and an D, sometimes a F and then decide. This sounds like a nightmare for the picky consumer and will be more time consuming for the agent making the booking.

I can see the impatience of agents booking on board. They will just want to sell you any cabin to move on to the next person. Sometimes that's how they act now.

And how will they ever show all these catagories on their website? I already feel like I see very little of what's actually available when I look.

I may be concerned about nothing...this just doesn't seem buyer friendly.

Hi Lydia -we are Ross & Karen from Orange County, California, and we'll be on the Oasis of the Seas to celebrate our 35th in 4wks. We found your Feb 2011 review on visiting St Johns from St Thomas, mentioning that getting there on your own was a hassle (taxi, ferry, taxi, ferry, taxi). Do you still believe it's better to go there on an RCCL shore excursion rather than on our own? Since we're only in Charlotte Amalie from 11am-7pm and do want to see a bit of St Thomas since this is our first visit, we could do either of these RCCL excursions within about 4-4½ hrs: "St. John Half Day Champagne Cat Sail Beach & Snorkel" to Honeymoon Beach (sounds better to us, taking a cat rather than a ferry to St Johns), or "All Inclusive St. John Beach & Snorkel" to Trunk Bay. Your thoughts on this will be greatly appreciated!

This always happens to us....first just when we made diamond there were the benefit changes of no more coctail parties, so we just had nuts and beer/wine....now this when we are just making Plus!

So discouraging to wait so long, spend so much money and then things change...guess there is no way around it...:(

Sorry, could you refresh my memory on what you're losing as D+? I'm not sure I follow your thought.

I'm not the poster you asked but I feel we as D+ have lost the wonderful access to the CL on Oasis class ships with the changes that have been made. That was my first cruise as a D+ on Oasis...Now getting ready to go on HOTS and the only option is the DL...not the same. I for one am saddened by all the structure level changes made..it took a long time to reach D+ and now it seems to be not that much as a big deal any longer. JMHO

"St. John Half Day Champagne Cat Sail Beach & Snorkel" to Honeymoon Beach ---I have not done this tour but I have read many good reviews about it in the past. Googling the tour name will give you some review links. Lots on TripAdvisor.

Thanks, I can understand how you feel. It seems to be happening to a lot of loyalty programs, sadly. Our loyalty has become a liability. Subject for another thread, perhaps.

I was trying to connect the OP's comment with the topic of this thread, thinking I had missed something.

Never! How did we ever manage to cope before we had the Internet?? :-)

If I should ever find myself having difficulties, I'll be on the phone too. We have a cruise already reserved for next year so I don't foresee booking anything for at least a year. Unless of course the folks on our upcoming cruise want to make me an offer I can't resist.

You might be wrong. Code XN - Neighborhood Balcony Guarantee.

So many Chicken Little's around here.

I'd like to be a fly on the wall in RCI's call center break room and find out what the reservation agents think about this new layer of categories.

Stopped by the local cruise specialist TA near home here...and they think its a great improvement.

Some folks are simply adverse to change...not to mention prone to yell "the sky is falling" for almost everything.

Much to do about nothing in terms of it being the big deal some make it out to be...and C&A discounts will indeed be in play according to the TA here.

Are you saying that C&A discounts will remain the same, or that "in play" means there may be [significant] changes in the balcony discounts?

Looking at http://creative.rccl.com/Sales/Royal/General_Info/17055533_Recategorization_Trade_Grid.pdf I am seeing major categories (separated by a thick grey horizontal line) of:

Suite

Balcony

Neighborhood

Ocean View

Interior

That implies to me that Neighborhood balcony cabins (notwithstanding the inclusion of the description of XN as Neighborhood Balcony Guarantee) will no longer be considered "Balcony" and lose the C&A Balcony discount. That would indeed be a "big deal" to me, as those are my customary cabins on O-class.

It is interesting to note that Boardwalk View and CP View [non balcony] are now listed as "Interior". Promenade View have always been listed as interior, but I don't think that Boardwalk and CP were.

Today is March 6, they will probably be to busy dealing with new releases coming this week. ;)

Anything out yet?
