Celebrity Cruises to Modernize All Cabins and Suites Across Fleet and Add New Sundeck

I also think the experience for the suite guests is going to alter on the new ships. Those that speak now of those extra special touches that they can’t describe may find that they are none existent when there are over 200 suites on a ship. Presently, where the venues are intimate and exclusive for those pax, they may find that they dislike the move to much larger venues to accommodate all the extra suite guests and their connecting family and friends, especially on TAs where there are many consecutive sea days. From threads on CC, many suite guests prefer the smaller venues and that’s why they book that category: for the exclusivity. Or perhaps X will do as the airlines have done and introduce a ‘first class’ area for those in top suites only? The new ships will evolve just as S and M class have over the years.

You have described many of my concerns. The more suites there are on board, the less special they become.

But, it is more than that. We do not want to cruise on ships with just one type of guest. We enjoy meeting the wide range of guests Celebrity attracts. It is too easy to be lazy and isolate yourselves with the present suite facilities. It will only be worse with the ship within a ship concept.

If I wanted to cruise with on one of the premium lines, that is what I would be booking now but I currently choose to cruise with Celebrity. In our discussions about this, we are not asking which other cruise line should we consider? rather we are wondering if our cruising days are coming to an end.

Agree with you re enjoying the wide range of guests. We love Michael's but also enjoy our time at the Sunset Bar, Elite cocktail hour and other venues....meeting new people from a wide range of backgrounds is a real strength of Celebrity to us....

Re "cruising days coming to an end....", I hope not Sue! However, events have conspired with us over recent years to evaluate more of what we want out of a cruise now. We can no longer do long high energy demanding port tours and world wide flights are no longer something we take lightly....We still love cruising and enjoying warmer climates. This year cruising from our home country port has also been a revelation to us in terms of making a cruise 'easy'.

There does come a point where, if the destinations/itinerary are less important, if you follow the ship within a ship concept, you do need to question 'why cruise?'.....If all your time is going to be spent between your suite, one bar, one restaurant and one pool why be at sea? An exclusive land based all inclusive hotel or hiring a luxury villa may provide just as much for you as a cruise at a lower cost....

The above all sounds so logical but then I remember sitting on the balcony at night watching the stars and the waves, waking each morning to new scenery, being thrilled and surprised by dolphins or flying fish, enjoying our short shore walks or excursions and I remember why we stopped booking all inclusive resorts and started cruising!

Our cruising days are not over but they do have a different focus. Celebrity's present suite offerings at the moment do 'fit us like a glove', our concerns are will they continue to do so?

What concerns me is that those of us who can't afford the price they charge for the suites will end up with less space on deck and less places to enjoy around the ships. That new sun deck has to go somewhere and when we were last on Silhouette there wasn't enough space on deck without it so am not sure where they are planning on putting all of their guests?

Oh well, times change and things move on.

The article says 2019 - just out of interest when does the Constellation get her refit? I thought that was before next year.

How many times do you see the basketball court being used? Rip that out, use the space for suits. Easy fix. Doesn't affect many people.

I don’t recall using ‘upscale’ in my post? However, X has always been known as being slightly more refined than some other lines because it’s not your ‘all singing and dancing’ line. We all go on vacation for different reasons but witnessing a person so inebriated that they were having to be held back from verbally abusing pax walking by is not how I want to spend my holidays. Or seeing the lawn covered from inch to inch with towels - I certainly don’t want Butlins at sea (you may be unfamiliar with this company living in the US - google it).

No gnashing of teeth, as I pointed out, we are hoping Eclipse restores our faith but we have also decided to try other lines as well. I’m sure you will make your own judgements once you have sailed on X ;).

I missed your post yesterday. I understand what you mean now. These are non issues for me and don't ruin my vacation in the slightest. I now understand.

For me, it's how I feel about Bellagio. It use to be much more special, to the point where not even children could enter unless they stayed there. There use to be magnetic keys, but now they downgraded to key cards. It's not as luxurious as before as they use cheaper soaps, shampoos, and etc. Service isn't as good as it use to be. The buffet has taken a nose dive. But these lil things don't bother me in the slightest. It's not a big deal and I still have a fun time b/c it's what I make of it with the time. Things change. Not a big deal. I understand what I am getting for my booking.

I guess people here on CC on all CL are just frustrated with how things use to be. Can't hold onto the past b/c you won't be able to live in the present.

We sail in the school holidays so it is used lots .... wouldn't bother us though. I suppose the space they use will affect someone.

No one is suggesting cruise lines should not evolve. As I previously stated, that’s why one has to decide to perhaps give other lines a try. You are sailing X for the first time, so you are obviously venturing to pastures new from previous vacations to fulful your present needs. It also appears that you are happy staying at an establishment that is reducing the product from your previous visits - your choice.

One also has to remember you are paying for the product of your choice. If you enjoyed something for various personal reasons, that’s the reason you continued to buy it.

I have no interest in cars - just a piece of metal that transports me from A to B - so your analogy of high performance cars is lost on me ;). To some, they will only drive a certain make, I have no such issues - I never even fill my car with fuel, that magically happens every time it’s nearly empty ;p.

Presto,

We also sail in the school holidays where the basketball court is used often, together with the Solstice deck on S class ;).

Life is better when you learn to embrace change for sure. People who don't can be pretty miserable unfortunately.

But if I'm honest I do wonder why Celebrity don't try a bit harder to be the line they pretend to be. I've been reading cruise critic for a few years now and I was bemused when I saw people complaining about such trivial things such as the loss of pillow chocolates (Yes really) etc. Then there was the loss of other small trivial items or replacement of inferior goods and food etc.

The cost of reinstating everything can't be more than £50 to £100 per person. Why not just bring it all back and add it onto the cruise fare, you'd see fewer complaints, fewer people searching for others lines etc and the reputation would improve. They've made a real effort with suite class and if you read the many comments the vast majority are positive so why not try and emulate this with other cabins classes now?

:')that line was really funny to me

and ppl scream and yell just as loud over lil things (pillow chocolates, table covers, water bottles) over on CCL, RCCL, NCL....it gets old fast...i mean...really? not a big deal....

yup, it causes me no grief with them chipping away at the product's quality.

i am not willing to pay more for a more luxury exp on a cruise. no to juices (and i REALLY miss the complimentary juices back in the day...but i don't miss it enough to buy a drink package LOL). no to specialty dining. no to zip lines. no to any up charges. rather use that money toward a new porsche (or rather my student loans :') )

i am checking out x b/c of the lower price. i am loyal to no CL :D. X was cheaper than all the other CL for april 21st, 2018. maybe CCL is cheaper, but the ppl i am traveling w/ REFUSE to go on CCL b/c the food is terrible.

for the record, i don't think i am X's target market either...I may be a millennial, but i am not willing to splurge on cruises...been on enough cruises to not worry about these luxury things b/c i enjoyed my past cruises with the most basic included activities.

Constellation just was in drydock May 2017. So it will be a few years before changes are made I think

Reflection has its dry dock in January. Since it is too late to cancel it as they could not possibly fill the ship for a sailing so close in then they must be going forward with it. I'm going to guess though that many updates that were originally planned are going to be pulled back on due to the forthcoming "Revolution" updates. I would imagine that any suite updates won't happen and it will likely just focus on engine maintenance and public area carpeting and furniture refresh. It would be awesome if Reflection could just get the "Celebrity Revolution" updates in this upcoming dry dock but I seriously doubt they would do that before Edge has launched.

The storage in all the cabins below the suite level is already substandard. Now it appears there will be less storage. I agree, the designers should live in this arrangement for 2 weeks and see how they like it. I guess we shall all be cruising with carry on from now on because there won't be room to store anything else!

Looking at the drawings, there does appear to be less storage and more open shelves. I personally want my things organized and stored where they are not seen and won't fall off an open shelf in high seas. There is no where near enough space for a 14 night cruise in cooler climates or in Europe, where you need more than a bathing suit most days. No shelves in the closets either. Where will the safe be? I saw pictures of the bathroom on another site and there is hardly any shelf space. No cabinets or drawers like the S class. Don't like the new designs. No desk drawer.

The basketball courts help to attract a younger crowd and those with children who enjoy basketball. I would sooner see Celebrity downsize the casino as it never appears full and remove any area that contains the art prints the they spread all over the ship. But people pay a hefty fee for the prints and the Casino is a real money maker- so probably downsizing isn't a real option.
