Let’s all jump on him at once!! So basically you are saying that when somebody posts on a public forum asking for feedback people should ignore it and not respond, or only post comments that agree with them? If that is the expectation, them that person will probably be disappointed quite often online and would probably be better if just discussing with their mom. While some comments can be nasty, most of the times that people say they are being attacked is because others don't agree, which is there point of a discussion board. As to tipping, while I would never remove tips, as I figure people work hard in a tough job and deserve the money. If somebody else wants to be a cheap skate and try to justify stiffing the hard working people in the ship, so be it. Saying you have to tip the valet, and baggage handlers, and taxis, etc as a reason why they should take tips away from their room steward or waiter makes no sense to me. The guy didn’t say anything about stiffing anyone. He merely expressed the pain he felt in paying quite a bit (in his allowed opinion) in gratuities. Zany lady Posted November 15, 2017 #107 Share Posted November 15, 2017 You are not allowed to remove gratuities before the second last day. So you feel that the four people who are included in the auto-gratuity or pre-paid gratuity do not serve you directly? Help me understand what you mean. chrisby Posted November 15, 2017 #109 Share Posted November 15, 2017 I think we should just tip after every meal....That way, if the service was lousy, then we don't tip much, but if the service is exceptional, then we can over tip!!! DROP MIC!!! BOOM!!! SOLUTION SOLVED!!! EVERYONE IS HAPPY NOW!!!! The last thing I want to think about is leaving a tip on the table after every meal, and that wouldn't take care of the people behind the scenes that may deserve a nice tip. Pre-pay is the best way! Now pick your mic up [emoji4] Sent from my K88 using Forums mobile app
juju2454 Posted November 15, 2017 #110 Share Posted November 15, 2017 there is a lot of judgment in these replies. We have no idea what the passengers op mentioned actually did. It's none of our business. Since gratuities are optional at this point in time on this cruise line, they can be removed. Pretty simple stuff. this^^^^^

juju2454 Posted November 15, 2017 #113 Share Posted November 15, 2017  Hurry everyone, the gratuity police are here! I think you've had enough internet for today honey. Time to go back to your day job so you can afford those long cruises and all those gratuities! I mean, you're counting people's money on an Internet forum? Who do you think you are? Disgusting. Happens every time. Many people here think they get to tell others what they should spend, and how they should spend it. Then the cheap comments or the you shouldn;t take a cruise comments or the do what you can afford comments start... EVERY> DANG. TIME. I "love" how judgemental this place has become. No one should have to justify their tipping practices. But the same few come out and tell you how they think you should do it their way, or not cruise.
Mikew0805 Posted November 15, 2017 #114 Share Posted November 15, 2017 If the cruise lines paid more, then you'd be paying more. It's called trickle down economics. Then you'd be complaining about the cruise price. Well... that is not at all what trickle down economics is, but I understand what you are saying. juju2454 Posted November 15, 2017 #116 Share Posted November 15, 2017 Ultimately the OP stated something they over heard, eavesdropping if you will, and everyone who thought they were entitled to offer their opinion on the wrongs of removing tips chimed in. Mikew0805 Posted November 15, 2017 #117 Share Posted November 15, 2017 Not the casino, that is an utter waste of time. I mean who in their right mind would waste time engaging in an activity where the odds are stacked against you? Spending time in a casino is like being a Cleveland Brown's season ticket holder - expensive, and you know, in the end, you are going to lose. :D Hey, thank goodness cruising in one of the rare industries where the service is good a vast majority of time. That's why I said I'd prefer a mandatory service charge instead of a gratuity. But if they want to continue the option to remove it, so be it, but I won't be wasting my time improving their service. If they want that, my consulting fees are quite reasonable. :D And yes, my fees include a mandatory 18% service charge. No gratuities at DirtyDawg Consultants Inc. ;) Me... me, me, me!!! Not always a loss. ;)
Mikew0805 Posted November 15, 2017 #118 Share Posted November 15, 2017 (y) Just checking because you had said earlier you thought people would think that when you didn't go to the MDR the last night. I don't think people skip out because they're 'cheapsakes', plus with MTD you may have a different person every night anyways. We frequently do not go to the MDR on the last night. We are usually having too much fun in the casino to leave.
DirtyDawg Posted November 15, 2017 #119 Share Posted November 15, 2017 I don’t know. How much time do you feel or wish previous guests who interacted with the problem employees should have given *so that you didn’t have to experience the problem*? If they spent a couple oftheir valuable vacation minutes for the greater good I'd be thrilled. If they spent five minutes, I'd be over the moon. An hour, heck, I'd canonize them myself. :halo:

I prefer to give money to the people that serve me directly.I want to have a say who gets it. But you don't have that say. If you don't pay the auto gratuities then any money given directly to staff has to be handed in by them and pooled thereby defeating what you intended to do. oldguysandgalls Posted November 15, 2017 #124 Share Posted November 15, 2017 (edited) Family Daily Service Rate? Currently, every passenger sharing the same cabin is billed the Daily Service Charge including families and their children, sharing the same cabin with their parents To make cruises affordable for families travelling and sharing a stateroom with their children, maybe introduction of a "Family" Daily Service rate is a possibility? Any thoughts? Edited November 15, 2017 by oldguysandgalls
Grandma Dazzles Posted November 15, 2017 #125 Share Posted November 15, 2017 Family Daily Service Rate? Currently, every passenger sharing the same cabin is billed the Daily Service Charge including families and their children, sharing the same cabin with their parents To make cruises affordable for families travelling and sharing a stateroom with their children, maybe introduction of a "Family" Daily Service rate is a possibility? Any thoughts? Why? They are usually getting a price break on the 3rd and 4th person, or kids sail free promotion. Kids are actually usually more work than adults. Cabin stewards have to clean up after them, linens, towels, etc. Dining room staff bends over backwards for kids. I travel solo. My cabin is neat and tidy ...... I usually pay a hefty single supplement. I wouldn't dream of expecting to pay less based on fact that I am less work. In fact, I normally tip on top of the suggested gratuities. Kids grow up - when my kids were sailing with me, and now they sail with their kids, it's part of the budget. We tipped for four in a cabin - and clean and neat as we tried to be, it was a mess. Try two adults and two teenagers in an inside cabin on the Majesty or Rhapsody! Sorry, if you choose to cruise, or eat out with your kids, you need to tip accordingly. No different than going out to eat and tipping a percentage of the bill, which might include a kids meal.
