zitsky Posted December 12, 2017 #1 Share Posted December 12, 2017 I know about the ATM. But is there a place to get $1 bills to use for tips? Or do you have to shove 20 or 30 $1 bills in your wallet?

sanger727 Posted December 12, 2017 #7 Share Posted December 12, 2017 You can change them on the ship, but they can also run out of change. We typically bring a variety of small bills in an envelope and just carry a few each day. On our last cruise by the final port stop they were low on small bills and reluctant to make change. zqvol Posted December 12, 2017 #9 Share Posted December 12, 2017 Maybe I should bring a bag of one dollar coins? Hmm? Ah- the good old silver dollar! If you don't want to bring singles with you from home, you can get them from guest services, but I find that by using bigger bills at the airport, at stores before I board the ship, and a lot of stores in port that I end up with more ones than I want. cb at sea Posted December 13, 2017 #10 Share Posted December 13, 2017 Bring larger bills, as they are easier to carry...but during your trip, you will likely be purchasing SOMETHING, and will get change...You don't need a wad of ones all at one time! And guess what? You can hand over a five and ask for $3 back!
casofilia Posted December 13, 2017 #11 Share Posted December 13, 2017 I always change larger bills in the change machine in the casino. Nice at times when they give pristine bills. I bring some back to NZ and sell them. If you mean the new gold coloured dollar coins people will wonder what they are!! I'm always looking for recent ones to fill a collection though!!!! They do have one good use, they get rid of touts in South America!!! Agree a price for an item on the street and then get out the new gold coloured dollars, the touts disappear!!! kskelley40 Posted December 13, 2017 #17 Share Posted December 13, 2017 I like to get $1 chips from the casino as soon as they open. They are easy to carry and no chance of getting them confused with a large bill. Of course, they would only be good on the ship. And if you have any left, you just cash them in on the last night. I also like to keep a $5 chip for myself as a souvenir. Have one from every ship we have been on so far.
bluesea777 Posted December 13, 2017 #18 Share Posted December 13, 2017 Starting a few months before each cruise we start saving the dollar bills. When we receive change that include the dollar bills, we save them. Last cruise was a TA and we brought onboard well over 100 $1 bills in a Ziploc bag, and put it in the safe. Spent all of that for tipping (when getting drinks on UBP) and the LCR games. Start saving them.
zitsky Posted December 13, 2017 Author #19 Share Posted December 13, 2017 (edited) There are lots of places. Thanks? :') Edit: I was expecting you to name one, but I get your point. I should find many places to make change. Edited December 13, 2017 by zitsky
Rare Peachypooh Posted December 14, 2017 #20 Share Posted December 14, 2017 Even though before I left home I went to the bank and got $100 worth of small bills by the middle of the cruise I was out. I visited guest services and they were able to exchange a $20 bill for 20 ones.
